I just don't see how this fits into the current media narrative that Bill Clinton's "trashy, ugly" comments somehow imply that the only reason that Obama won so convincingly in SC was due to his race.

First, Glenn's narrative is not the same as the "current media narrative" you are implying he is following. From Glenn's post:

One highly likely explanation for this huge disparity is that so many voters decided to vote for Obama in the last several days as a result of their revulsion towards Obama's treatment by the Clinton campaign

But come on: only an idiot would claim that Obama's race had nothing to do with the margin of his victory.

Could you quote where Glenn said this? Reading comprehension - meaning what is actually said versus what you think you read - is your friend. Or, at least, it will keep you from making untrue observations.

What's so horrible about the Clinton strategist comments? Again, I'd heard these exact same reports from media sources like Salon for weeks before the Clinton strategists were ever quoted saying the same.

Again with the reading comprehension issue: Glenn's point is that it is hypocritical for the left to accept from democratic candidates behavior that will then be considered unnacceptable in the general election. He's not addressing media sources, he's addressing Clinton's statement as part of a campaign strategy.

Your fourth point is unclear to me. You seem to be attributing media statements about the Bradley Effect to official statements from members of the Obama campaign. That's pretty dishonest unless you can provide a cite for an actual quote.

Lastly, your eye rolling fatigue might be mitigated somewhat if you were to improve your reading comprehension. Then again, you might come down with headaches from the cognitive dissonance.

Maybe you could just apply an irony detector to your own statements:

the number of times that commentators (like those on Salon, sadly) repeat again and again how "aggressive" and "trashy" and "ugly" the Clinton campaign has become while never actually quoting evidence of such.

I refer you, again, to your fourth "point".

Apparently you have no qualms about accusing others of behavior you demonstrably engage in yourself in the same post.

  • Wow. Can We All Just Calm Down?

Hillary is not going to fire Bill. Barack is not going to take any further responsibility for his campaign's talking points memos than he already has. It's two-to-two and we're on to Florida on Tuesday (yes, yes, I know about the delegates, but people will still express a preference) — and then Super Duper Tuesday on Feb. 5.

In short, lots of ground to cover yet.

The bottom line is that the Democratic Party is offering the country three incredibly talented Presidential candidates — versus that pack of clowns that's running on the Republican side. In addition to that happy fact, we have a woman and an African-American, each of whom, for the first time in all of American history, actually have a chance of becoming President. That — coupled with the fact that one of those candidates is married to a former President — means that we're breaking a lot of new ground here.

There is no precedent for any of this and I think we should all just shut off our TVs and research the issues and vote according to what's best for our poor, Bushified country. It's been a long seven years. We have a lot of damage to repair and the whole world is watching us.

And P.S., I've already voted in the Florida Democratic primary, and I'm not telling!

  • Excuses, excuses

When will Clinton fans stop making excuses for Bill? He has proven himself to be a skirt chaser and a liar and it is well-known that he has a nasty temper. Now he has shown himself to be a true bully, taking cheap shots at his wife's opponent. His latent racism is also showing - so much for him being color blind.

Hillary is a classic example of a highly competent "feminist" woman who continues to put up with her lying, cheating, abusive partner. He has humiliated her numerous times through the years but she "stands by her man". How do I know this? Been there myself. I'm no fan of Hillary - she's a cold fish with political tricks up her sleeve at every turn - but I am saddened to see yet another woman with a "loser boyfriend".

Or maybe she knew already back in the 1960s when they met that the fastest way to the White House was through marriage - it's still a man's world - so she stuck it out despite all the insults. No wonder she's got a permanent shit-eating grin on her face.

I was briefly considering holding my nose and going with Hillary, but this past week has made me utterly disgusted with the Clintons. I believe Clinton will lose many votes because of Bill's insulting remarks and behavior. Unless she reigns her bully hubby in and tells him to shut up once and for all, she may lose the nomination. Maybe then she'll divorce him? Nah, not likely.

  • @WT

To be honest, I think that his passions have overruled his good sense. In that, he's not alone.

And it wouldn't be a first for him either. ;->

I think you have hit on something here. It is more personal for him than for others because he is Hillary's husband. Criticism of his tin ear may be warranted, but criticism of his passions in this case, perhaps not so much.

  • @ Paul Daniel Ash

and then bash Glenn over the head post after post for writing stuff he didn't write

Not to mention attempting to lump him in with the comments of other media - whether on Salon or not. You know, all those Salonistas are the same. No one has a distinctive brain cell in their body....sheesh.

It's really no different than the "all them black people vote the same" meme.

  • Follow the media

It's sad to see how everyone is falling for the media trap that has been so successful before.

Yes there are elements of truth to many of the arguements, but don't be blind to other interputations and the eventual outcome. I have seen the media try to drive the election the way they want before. They have gotten very good at it. That is why California has a Rebublican govenor.

The formula is they same. Get the Democrats to have two close candidates. Get the party to be divided during the primary while all in the community scream how smart and right they are. Watch the Democrats fail in the general election.

Many of you think you people like me should not be listened too. So be it, thats your right. Just felt I needed to speak. Just something to think about.
