Listening to this "debate" is enough to make one become a revolutionary

Amen!! Can I get a Hallelujah??

Say Goodnight, Gracie.

The age of reason and self governance seems to be coming to an end. “The people” have lost the ability to control the actions of the government and will soon be crushed under its oppressive will. We allowed corporations to thrive and gain massive amounts of wealth and influence and power to the point where they are virtually indistinguishable from our government and now we are going to receive our reward. We created a monster and having done so elected to retire to slumber and allow it to run amuck. Where are the villagers with their torches and pitch forks?

All over the world free systems are contracting and remaking themselves into authoritarian surveillant police states bent on exercising the outermost limits of their power (if there are any) on citizens. Our government’s insistence on technological dragnets of surveillance will NOT stop with “terrorism” (whatever the hell that means anymore). It will be used (as is always the case) for far more imaginative future needs and to settle age old scores with those who would seek to protest such actions. All this will of coarse now take place within the safest realms of secrecy far away from any modicum of scrutiny which might seek to intrude. And so now we set off on our new journey driving a bulldozer with a bumper sticker firmly affixed that says “Slavery Is Freedom.” I suppose though that that is the natural order of things. Freedom exists only as an aberration to tyranny, and though in the larger timeline of history our experiment here might have been brief, we did have a good run of it.

I think this is a revolutionary time

People died for civil rights, to vote, to organize against corporations, and so on. None of our great progressive strides came from casual voting. What's more, our leverage with the vote is now greatly diminished. Politicians used to be more independent than they are today, and for a while there, anyone who tried hard enough could get into Congress. That democratic avenue is pretty much gone now, when we get to choose between a red cutout and a blue one -- both pre-approved by industry and beyond our reach.

I think the options for a good outcome are to either start taking to the streets or moving somewhere else until the U.S. collapses under its own ignorance and malfeasance. Of course the risk of taking to the streets is high, but as more people lose their jobs it will be less of a social hurdle. Then again, the worse things get the more likely government will shoot rabble rousers -- I'm sorry, "terrorists."

You see the lines being drawn as "center left" means total imperial-corporate servant. Indeed, take away lip service and you can't discern the parties at all.

Dear Patrick,

I care.

I been there too.

Now, I go and thanks for the tolerance and hospitality. I'll listen to music and look into 3-fillies and 6-colts. There is a good stallion with a brilliant reputation at the site...See RAGTIME ABACADABRA.

I realize and I try my own patience.

Patience means to suffer long with.

My respects. adios Patrick Morgan.

At the farm we always rewarded apprentices with a week long training (The young farmers always got a certificate from the Ohio horse workshop) about how to saddle, plow, and respect man, women, and beast. Mea culpa, a Maximo gulp. I'll go and lame farm awhile. Me obnoxious. Muy so, and so I diddy moi, now. mercy.

Reid in hot seat over backing of spying bill

Sen. Harry Reid angered liberals in his party last month as he sought to shield telecom companies from liability for their role in the Bush administration's domestic spying program.

As the Senate debates the surveillance issue this week, the criticism of Reid shows that his role is putting him at odds with his party's base...

"Look at Me Bloom, I'm wearing a Cardboard Belt!"

Our entire political process is becoming more and more like a giant, nationwide production of Mel Brooks' "The Producers"!

As the politicians, who cannot bring themselves to admit they will never deliver on their promises, each tries to appear either crazier or more incompetent that the other, hoping if they fail miserably, the finalty of the failure will prevent a final accounting. The Republican candidates especially.

This should put paid to the lie

The lie being that the United States is a functional democracy. In all honesty, it probably hasn't been for a while, but that became obvious in 2000. When that election was stolen in everybody's sight, and people didn't get out on the streets and REFUSE to accept it, it basically told the powers that be that they could do anything they wanted, and people really weren't going to do anything meaningful.

I'm glad that people are trying to get senators to stand up for the constitution and for what's right, but that probably won't be enough unless a lot of people get obviously upset. And it's not happening.

I hope something gets done about this, but I can't say I'm confident.

how many millions die for 'our' (sic) democrazy ? ? ?

in vietnam, millions died so that we wouldn't have to face up to lying, craven, political/military leaders protecting the military - industrial - kongressional komplex and their right to practice geopolitical gamesmanship...

hee hee hee

in latin america, hundreds of thousands died so that united fruit, cokey cola, and other korporadoes could continue their rape and plunder without pesky citizens calling the shots...

ho ho ho

in africa, millions still die so that we can impose de facto colonization (without any noblesse oblige), and korporate puppetmasters can keep their boots on the neck of the black man...

ha ha ha

in the mideast, millions die for oil, regional supremacy, and doing zionistas' bidding to oppress natives being uppity...

ak ak ak

but, in amerika, hundreds of thousands die to 'defend' their right to smoke tobac...

...but not one will die to defend the bill of rights

in amerika, tens of thousands will die to 'defend' their right to drive drunk...

...but not ONE thinks its worth dying for democracy

in amerika, we will drink our sugarwater until we have diabetes, eat our cheesy doodles until we shit orange, and crankup the ipod until we can't hear the screams of the millions of innocents we've bombed to perdition...

shutup Shutup! SHUTUP!!!

...but don't dare talk about ONE of us dying to restore the ideals of democracy, now *THAT'S* just beyond the pale of civilized behavior ! ! !

*snort*

come the revolution, sheeple must spit out their soma cud...
