What the Democratic Congressional Leaders Need To Know.
It's The Unbalanced, and his Vice President, the Unchecked, stupid.

Right Now We Have Bigger Fish To Fry
Than the subpoena stuff or telecom immunity. We have to win this damn election. It's 10 months away.
A perfect expression, as always, of the Loser Anthem of the Democratic Party -- at once, craven and self-destructive.
The reason that Democrats lose so many elections and have such trouble winning the respect and support of Americans is because it's filled with people like you who constantly jutsify and glorify standing for Nothing. It's a virtually univerasal human trait to find such craven emptiness unattractive.
Moreover, this claim is deeply dishonest. If a Democrat does win the White House in 2008, you'll be right back here insisting that they can't take a stand on anything because -- hey - don't you know there's a VITAL midterm election in 2010 and think of all the bad things that will happen if Democrats lose seats!!!!
Repeat endlessly.

They help comedy writers.
Is there any remaining aspect of our government which Congressional Democrats haven't damaged severely through their toxic mix of passivity and complicity -- all in one short year of ostensible "control"?
Well, the Congressional Dems have improved the "mockability quotient". They are so ripe for satirizing, it'd be great to see some skits on SNL, Letterman, etc. about the Democrats avoiding looking "weak" by "caving" and "surrendering" to the most unpopular President in modern history.
The Democrats. Because nothing says tough like surrendering to George Bush and AT & T.

Of course not
And what are the Dem base gonna' do?
Vote Republican?
Of course we aren't going to vote Rethuglican. Many (like myself) will leave the party and declare as independents and then vote in pick-and-choose fashion for the best non-Rethuglican candidates that may also happen to be NOT-Democrat. In fact, come November 2008, I anticipate voting a LOT for 3rd party candidates and against both the Dem and the Rethug on the ticket. While this wont help with the Presidency (unless Bloomberg drops in as an independent...then I may purposefully queer the Dems and vote for him) but it can help the Congress. It would be a much better congress if there were a good number of independents, greens, etc, in it. Both parties would then have to vie for these unaffiliated reps, giving in on issues or making promises on issues in order to convince the 3rd party member to caucus with them. No more railroading the corporate line across the board.
I want MORE independents and other 3rd party members in Congress. We could force a more representational democracy on both Houses regardless of what the party bosses want. We could force them, via outsiders, to actually DO WHAT WE TELL THEM TO DO!
I despise the Democrat party only slightly less than I loathe the GOP. They have done NOTHING to earn my vote but have driven me from the party.
They are criminals, top to bottom, and I will NOT reward them with my votes (or money).

I doubt even you deny it's craven, do you? What you're advocating is the dictionary definition of cravenness. Usually, Cravenness Advocates acknowledge that it's craven but justify their cravenness.

Go Huck!
Really, things like this are why I don't want a Dem to win in 08. When things go bad, everything will be blamed on the Dems, despite the fact the GOP (and the complacent Congress critters-Clinton and Obama included) caused the mess.

Oh look: the eunuch shooter242 is back.
Nobody is going to buck executive privilege when it's clear to all parties that the USAs serve at the pleasure of the President.
And so manly too, insisting such things as "obstruction of justice" and "partisan interference in corruption investigations" are unimportant.
Yes, a real man's man there.
Jesu Ben Joseph, what rock did this idiot crawl out from under?

Here's the craziness...
Say the economy tanks this year. Hypothetically. What's Bush and the Congressional GOP gonna do? Veto a stimulus bill? Jeez, whatever political horsetrading stinkery lies behind this decision, it seems like a bad political decision, period.
BTW - Chuck Knoblauch could redeem himself by writing a letter to Pelosi and Reid as follows:
Dear Dems,
I've received your subpoena and before I make any hasty decisions, I'd like you to let me know where I stand if I just tell you all to go pound sand.
Thanks,
Chuck

Al Gore and the congressional black caucus
I remember watching Gore interrupt those standing up for him in congress. I felt dismayed that he's be so quick to ... uphold a sense of dignity? ... not plummet the country into serious crisis?
god knows. but whatever happened to him when he got drunk & grew his beard ... shooting off shotguns ... howling at the moon ... the man emegered with conviction and purpose. he really convinced the world of an imminent danger. his honor won all of us over, mostly. this is what is missing from democratic leadership. standing up for what is right out of conviction ... in the face of backlash. bush et al are repugnant leaders, but at least they can do this.

Letter Sent to the Edwards Campaign
Mr. Edwards:
There are many of us progressives who are waiting for you to come out forcefully to protest the proposed extension of retroactive immunity to specific telecom corporations for their clearly illegal complicity in allowing what seems to be unfettered access to telepone and internet traffic.
I dare say that if you were representing a client who had been harmed by this invasion of privacy you would not want the Senate to close down your client's ability for redress of grievance. This proposal before the Senate, likely to be acted upon quickly on or about February 1, undermines the very idea of rule of law as the overriding principle of the Constitution. You want to stand up for working America against corporate interests? Speak out, and speak out forcefully, against this travesity of a bill.
Believe me, progressives by the DROVES will follow you, and independents and disenchanted Republicans who vaguely sense that their rights under the Constitution are being threatened will know with complete certainty that you, when elected President, will strip away this disgraceful and completely illegal protection for the monied interests.
On February 5th here in California, I will be stepping into the voting booth, ready to pull the lever for you. I have held off committing until I see that you clearly distinguish your position on this matter. To me, it overrides all other concerns, including the economy, because without reestablishment of the rule of law, almost all of us (with the exception of a very few wealthy entities) will stand naked against rampant exploitation.
I am waiting...
Chris Crockett
Long Beach, CA.
