The journalist's last refuge from criticism of his or her work: The editor did it.
King is a child.
He also doesn't take the time to edit his emails.
It's amazing to see these reporters get so worked up when confronted with the clear, indisputable truth.

I wonder if people like King realize how much they reveal of their immaturity and lack of intellectual sophistication when they write this kind of "response." what I find most telling is their apparent inability to understand that criticism can only apply to what they actually publish and we, the lowly public, actually get to read or hear, rather than to what they meant to publish, or would have published, or once did publish, or didn't publish for lack of time/space or whatever reason. Perhaps they expect every single reader to call them to ask for clarification every time. Perhaps we should try to do that.
But I produce it everyday.

CNN is the USA Today of TV news. I feel like I'm being injected with propaganda when I watch it for even a few minutes.

That as soon as they start levelling personal insults, all they're doing is providing more evidence for your initial post. It seems opportune to point out the contrast between John King's response and the way that Karen Tumulty deals with blogger-critics. She not only participiates in the dialog in the comments on her posts but actually once used "the Village" in a sentence.
It's actually pretty easy to see the dynamic that going on in this country, if and only if, you aren't an insulated, self important, jerk.
Does remind one of dialogue from a John Hughes movie. No, make that Heathers. He even went to the most elitist public school in the country, Boston Latin School.
It's scary when you consider that the "other side" he refers to for balance is probably Newsbusters but since he has a degree in Journalism that's par for the course.
This occurred on CNN the day of the New Hampshire Primary. After a clip showing Bill Clinton's "fantasy world" comments, Jack Cafferty turned to John King and asked, "What was it you were saying during that clip? 'I did not have sex with that woman...'?"
King looked to me as though he were just tattled on. That was more telling to me of his lack of objectivity as a reporter. Cafferty lifted the curtain a little bit on the tittering class.
Seriously - that's one of the funniest things I've read on the internet. You really held a mirror up to that hack and he did not like what he saw. I may cut and paste that into a word document and call it up whenever I'm feeling a little sad. Thanks!

Don't you know that you have to ignore McCain now? All that talk about him being inevitable (you know, every single thing the "press" had to say last week about the Republican nomination) never happened at all. Romney won yesterday, so we now have the story of three primaries and three winners. It's a race now, and all stories must conform to that idea. Going back and talking about McCain now is just below any real "players" in this game. You are so lucky to have gotten that email. I'll bet King had to disinfect his Blackberry after typing in your address.
To borrow a line from Shooter, keep it up.
Sadly, I too am plagued with "legal training" (sounds like "potty training"), and spend a large amount of time negotiating.
One "tell" when the other party has no substantive point to make is they resort to "in 22 years of doing this, I've never seen this," or "I went to Harvard --did I mention that already?" The tell is that they start to cite their experience, their credentials, the time they got their way with someone else -- anything to keep the conversation moving, even though they "got nothing" substance-wise.
I also think people never get madder than when they get mad at themselves. Mr. King sure seemed pretty mad, and somehow Glenn's exact sin still isn't clear. Is it that Glenn is smart and articulate and Mr. King is not? Hmmm...I wonder.

One of the things I observed from litigation and elsewhere is that what makes people angriest and most ashamed is when you use their own words against them. The more you rely on their own words to make the argument against them, the angrier they become.
The original post I wrote was composed predominantly of King's own words to McCain -- printed in full, not edited. Only a little of it was my analysis of what he said. The best argument to make against someone is when you just print their own words -- how can they claim they've been treated unfairly? All they're left to do is fulminate and insult.
Maybe the next time he interviews McCain, he'll remember this on some level. And maybe not.
