@Paul Dirks - Double positive = Negative
I heard the story as "Yeah right!", a more familiar colloquialism. At least to these ears, accustomed as they are to "neener neener neener", "WHATever" (all 3 syllables emphasised and lengthened), and "Dude!".
The tongues of the folk wag; smarter men follow with rules and observations. Others steal the tunes.
The font of creation flows on despite the best efforts of rationalizers to contain it.

"The font of creation flows on despite the best efforts of rationalizers to contain it."
That's a great quote which will go into my collection.

@ Mona
He did, after all, as prez give us wage and price controls.
I've never understood the right's loyalty to Nixon, at all.
That loyalty didn't extend far enough to prevent some of his cohorts from finally asking him to step down, and it had nothing to do with him being "the most socialist of the presidents of the United States in the 20th century." But then, I've never understood the right.
There have been conservative Republicans who I truly admire, only to have them drop out of politics because they become unelectable in the party. They invariably end up switching parties, like McCloskey.

"I've never understood the right's loyalty to Nixon, at all."
Mona & LWM:
Rather than specific policies, I thought the Right's loyalty was primarily due to Nixon's ability to accumulate and exercise power... and justify means via ends.

There are legal arguments that have sound, logical reasoning on both sides that do require that men and women up to the highest court have to make a difficult decision about. It is usually not about politics and most often politics do not rule.
It's my experience that *everything* is politics. Humans are political animals, we eat, sleep and breathe politics. Those who are good at it usually go far, those who are not (raises hand) usually fall by the wayside.
Both sides cannot be correct, either the original court was in error or the higher court is in error.
Thus we have a government of men, not laws.
I'm just enough of a codemonkey to know that logic is inexorable. Computers don't do what you think you told them to do, they do what you actually did tell them to do. Debugging your own code is a humbling experience and a remarkably educational one too.
If programmers were as lousy at logic as a lot of judges then there would be no internet for us to be conversing on.
And let's face it, the legal profession has had a lot longer to get its act together than the codeslingers have.

Is GG smiling a little bit?
Giuliani got "last" place in MI, lol. Even with his retarded strategy, it has to sting the Ghoul.

"Thanks for reminding us all of the high road John Edwards took when he said how alright he was with Dick Cheney's daughter being a lesbian- 5 times in one debate."
-- Chris Dowd
Cheney deserved that. The repetition reinforced the difference; mainly, that John Edwards' policies are allright with the fact that Dick Cheney's daughter is a lesbian. Contrasting the policies Dick Cheney growls with, which dictate she be ostrasized for her "choice".
You wish to speak of high roads. Spare me.
"Judicial activists". What a trumped-up name for such transparent motives, is my take on topic. Enjoyed the link to proving a negative, or not @paul. Also enjoy hearing be-; praise celery. Fun for the ramble ride, when I can keep up.

@Chris Sinnard
Having three different Repug winners plays into the Ghoul's strategy. If he wins Florida, he believes he will rank equally. I hope he's right because I want him to win so that we can really trounce the Repugs. He is by far, our best target. I think it will be MCCain and Romney fighting it out, although Huckabee is far from out of it.

@Margalis
Chris Dowd... But when Glenn talks about the erosion of the rule of the law and then dismisses the term "Judicial Activism" out of hand as just some chimera of the right- I think he may be driving away some intelligent allies.
Ahem.
Chris Dowd... The Glenn Greenwald Blog is a blog I find generally to be reliable, informative, and quite fair even though Greenwald would place himself on the left side of the spectrum while I would place myself on the right (though I honestly call into question the whole paradigm at this point).
It barely scratches the surface of the actual political matrices. It is easy shorthand for most because they don't play Tri-D Vulcan Chess, (I hear Captain Ed does). The left/right scale plots the economic/social justice or individualist vs. collectivist dimension.
Margalis... I do enjoy your blog, by the way. I agree that "left" and "right" distinctions are mostly irrelevant, especially in this day and age when the real split is between authoritarians and others.
If only. Are you denying that tension exists between the individual and the collective? Individualists claim that the source of problems is the urge towards collectivism. Collectivists argue the contrary. Most of us are somewhere in the middle. This is not the same thing as the tension between the libertarian vs. authoritarian that we discuss here most often. There are actually theories that posit many more political dimensions.

You have been offered the last word.
Please post it.

geez...while i do not disagree with your sentiments, generally, your tone is in fact over the top and just a wee bit about your self...but hey i responded didn't ?
I'm not sure what prompted this, did I address you?
OTT is just my style, old habits are hard to break and I learned this one on usenet where one is either predator or prey.
I'll point out once again that the best way to get rid of trolls is to refrain from feeding them. After all, we are only attention seekers.
Ignore me and I'll go away.

@LWM
I'm not going to get sucked into terminology warfare. I've seen you argue about different forms of libertarianism enough to realize what a waste of time that would be.
I didn't "deny" anything, nor do I understand why you are instantly adversarial.
