Asking "questions" that would be too reverent even for McCain's press secretary.

  • @bop & Beth

Bop, have a great day; it's interesting to hear about your video project.

Beth, don't be too upset with me. I think I helped give bop some good belly laughs last night, and I am very proud of that.

  • Don't Mean Nothin'

here is a full transcript with nice introductory comment, located via aggressive googling after bebop-o mentioned it last year.

  • Don't Mean Nothin'

The broadcast wants to help people of a later generation to understand why an uncle or guy up the street seems to act "differently" because of a strange malady or event called Vietnam.

  • Don't Mean Nothin'

John Fussell, the author of "Wartime" about World War II and the untold horror of war, said in an interview that the history of war was so far written down by "the bloodthirsty, the sentimental, the ignorant, and the looney patriotic." Any description of war should reflect how any combat veteran remembers it.

  • Gordon...

I think you mean Paul Fussell.

  • McCain and King,,

John King knows that Wolf is back in the studio waiting to interpret his questions to a breathless, waiting tv audience. Nobody does it better....right?

Candy Crawley is eagerly doing her breast stroke in her efforts to get the best front seat on the bus. After all, Bush even gave her a nick name and now here she is stuck on a bus with McCain...how the mighty have fallen.

But this post has nothing to do with McCain and King, now does it?

Sorry, it's gone the way all tv news stories go...

  • Anonymust

I'm sure you're correct. I lifted the quote from the site and, regrettably, neglected to fact-check.

  • Further

negligent failure to use quote marks and properly attribute... it's no excuse, I know, but I did not really expect any one else to reappear in the thread. Will execute more diligence in the future (I hope). :-)

  • MSM STANDS FOR.....

MSM STANDS FOR: MUDDLED STUPID MORONS!!!!! Of which category John King of CNN is a PRIME example. The MSM and their CRAZED ADULATION of the pasty-faced, flip-flopping schizoid madman John McPAIN BORDERS ON LUNACY, and as they still have St. Mary Bethlehem or BEDLAM Lunatic Hospital(now referred to as Bethlem Royal Hospital), it would appear that the INMATES of the ASYLUM HAVE ESCAPED and are running around and SHOUTING HOSANNAS for one of their own, McPAIN, to the skies!!!!!I am getting SICK and TIRED of hearing the OUT-AND-OUT LIES about how well the surge is going and that things are almost back to normal. That depends, of course, on WHAT your DEFINITION of NORMAL is, and why the U.S. reporting on Iraq has, by CONTRIVANCE, FABRICATION, and MUTUAL SCHEMING by the MSM and the white house of BLACKGUARDS, has tried to put a HAPPY SMILEY FACE on the STARK HORROR in REALITY and the SNICKERING SKULL-FACE of DEATH INCARNATED in an INEVITABLE DEFEAT and a TREMENDOUS MANPOWER and FINANCIAL LOSS for AMERICA!!!!! McPAIN HAS HAD to TOADY to and KISS Monkey Boy CHIMPya Bush's BACKSIDE in order to SHOW HIMSELF in the BEST POSSIBLE LIGHT as a SUPPORTER of the MISGUIDED and CRIMINAL Iraq OCCUPATION, which is NOTHING ELSE EXCEPT FALSE and MISLEADING in the EXTREME and UNNATURAL in its LYING DECEIT!!!!!

  • @Gordon

Unfortunately, there is a very grim story on the front page of today's New York Times about how many Iraq and Afghanistan vets have been arrested for killing someone in this country after their combat tours.

    Don't mean nuthin'.

  • Dirigo

    don't mean nuthin'!

  • @Gordon - re: The Times Story

It is awful, but how much will it mean to people who read it? Will the dimensions of the story reach a wider audience?

    Probably not.

It should, to be sure, be a slap in the face, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

    It's just awful.

  • Gordon...

Ordinarily, I'd have been on to the next thing, too, but I'm behind and have been catching up... and I've actually read a collection of essays by Fussell, which is why I knew his name. ;~) That's what we're all here for... to help each other out, right? The current tone of the threads notwithstanding.

  • I don't expect our pro-war, non-serving antagonists to understand

but it's arguably a worse tragedy for the killers in this case. What torment they must suffer? And we made them.

  • Anonymust, if still here

I will email the admin and suggest a correction.

    Thx for the heads up.

  • @Gordon

Thanks so much for doing the hard work to provide that moving script for us.

  • @Gordon

    Yes, we made them.

  • Obviously wrong

... it's difficult to be angry and indignant 24 hours a day when you are in close quarters with these people...

No. It's easy. About the only thing that makes it less than a cinch is that with the sheer volume and continuous nature of the outrages and scandals, "scandal fatigue" begins to set in....

    Cheers,

  • @ Margalis

I would point out that "wingnut" is much the same, which is why I try to avoid it and similar words unless I'm only openly mocking.

But there are people who are demonstrable "RW foamers", and such accurate appellations ought not be discarded.

When people begin throwing out terms like dittohead or Demoncrap or communist/marxist/socialist (without appropriate context) or talking about the majority of Americans as the "fringe" the honest discussion has ended.

New twist on Godwin's Law, I guess. But that's not to say that such demagoguery hasn't been tried. "Liberal" did, thanks to a dozen years or more of Newt's 'branding' and His Emanance Rush's scorn, become a derogatory term, at least for some. But the proof is in the pudding, and -- given the conservative record recently -- the conservatives (self-branded or otherwise) are in for a bit of a shock as the people start to wake up to who the true enemies of the people are.

    Cheers,

  • @ Margalis

    Wingut Cheetoz eaters are chickenhawks!

No. Chickenhawks are wingnut Cheetoz eaters (the converse of your proffered statement). While admittedly a generalisation, this fact has been amply documented over the years by the tireless http://sadlyno.com

It may not meet with the level of intellectual rigour that you'd prefer we use in our discussions, but sometimes you have to communicate on a level that the other side can be comfortable with. Glenn's sarcasm directed at the early PW effluent on this thread certainly was well above target grade level.

    Cheers,
