“Ages ago, I posted something about this theory that I have that it's really women who want sex and men who want intimacy, even though the culture says it's the opposite.”

That makes a lot of sense to me when you consider how men and women are conditioned differently to deal with their emotions.

Men are taught that to feel or act intimate is not manly so they consciously or unconsciously have a burning desire to be intimate because fighting off natural emotions is counter to the purpose of emotions. Men desire intimate relations because it is so rare and challenging and can sooth the emotional turmoil they spend so much time rationalizing away. It is the primary reason why men are more insecure than women and get so frustrated that they use anger and power to compensate.

Can you tell me how what women are taught makes them want sex?

"Only a new generation of leaders can solve these new challenges, because only a new generation of leaders is unbound by old policies, old commitments and arrangements, old deals and old friendships. This is a time when America must leave old politics behind. This election is about transition not power. We will either move forward or we will go back."

  • This thread has ended up putting a smile on my face

I'll carry this peaceful feeling to bed now.

  • patg: what is wrong with 'compton banger look'?/ what about the Mcveigh Military look??

I wonder why folks( not suggesting you) get upset with Hip-hop culture music etc..

What kind of music was Watergate criminals listening to, Dave Koresh folks, Colunbine kids etc..

I often lecture to suburban kids that the lethal aggregate group in America looks like them and thier parents get very upset. When one dares to shift the paradigms with truth it creates such angst and realted discord..

I think this is a cultural pathological issue at play..

  • The military commercials in play 24/7 on TV, Internet, Print Media seeking to seduce our children are criminal

where is the outrage from our churches, temples, mosque?? The silence from these venues reveal a decadence that is troubling...

  • Digby...

... is sponsoring a petition (link to Digby's blog at my sig). The petition is to be sent to the major media outlets.

    The full text reads:

Hillary Clinton's win in New Hampshire last night was shocking. The performance of the national press corps in the days preceding the vote, unfortunately, was not.
Your organization's focus on punditry over journalism is perverting our democratic process. And the misogyny that was unleashed by a feeding frenzy on the video of an exhausted Clinton tearing up at a small New Hampshire roundtable of voters was just the tip of the iceberg.
Whether we agree with Clinton on the issues or not, the media's (and indeed your organization's) assault on her candidacy based on gender is unacceptable. So too is biased and uninformed commentary on the minority status of other candidates (Obama's ethnicity and Romney's religion, to name just two).
The nation is at a critical juncture. A sober citizenry must make informed decisions about who will lead our country in addressing more crises than any previous generation has faced: global warming, unending war in Iraq, and multiple constitutional crises.
Our democracy depends on an informed public. And an informed citizenry requires a media that provokes thought, not prejudice. Start doing your job or our country -- and indeed the world -- will continue to suffer the consequences.

my point, besides my being old and thinking cool involves leather, cuban points & a duck tail, is that the look evolved from prison; not to my mind the best role models, though i'm sure there those that gave up the life. i'm just guessing they bought belts.

i'm sure there is a bit of cultural bias. but i just think it looks like a plumber. wearing boxers (thank god?)

  • patg: I think the concern is a bit overkill. we are talking about teen fashion not role model

clothes. Do you think by wearing these garments they have some inner power to make them criminal??

Do you apply the same standard to types of music, books teens read etc??

    just finished leftychris' treatise...

I think its a bit premature to claim anyone was "robbed".

That's what I meant. In the case of primaries and caucuses, especially in smalller states like NH, it seems to me high tech, electronic voting methods are unnecessary but as long as there is a paper ballot record as well, to verify the outcome if a hand recount is demanded, I suppose its OK. There will never be a perfect system and losers will always cry foul but if people could be patient and not need to know the outcome before the polls even close it might make it easier to rely on systems that are less prone to tampering, fraud and error.

Because I don't have cable, I don't watch MSNBC, et al. Of course, that also means that I have not been able to see any of the debates.

The debates should be carried on the broadcast networks. That's where they used to be.

Since nuclear weapons could mean the end of life on earth I suppose any distinctions are rendered moot with that example.

Nuclear weapons won't end life on earth.

The Chicxulub impact didn't end life on earth and it was many orders of magnitude greater than all the nuclear weapons on the planet exploded at once.

Good question. The deeper question is why we have a society where young people have to go into the military to better their lives and get an education. And why many stay in because they realize that the military has a more level playing field to succeed using hard work and talent than in the civilian world.

Most of the religious organizations are too busy evangelizing, enlarging, raking in money and in today’s world politicking.

Vandals rip into Robert Frost home

RIPTON, Vermont (AP) -- A former home of poet Robert Frost has been vandalized, with intruders destroying dozens of items and setting fire to furniture in what police say was an underage drinking party.

Homer Noble Farm, a former Frost residence that's now a historic landmark, was ransacked late Friday night during a party attended by up to 50 people, Sgt. Lee Hodsden said Monday.

The intruders broke a window to get into the two-story wood frame building -- a furnished residence open in the summer -- before destroying tables and chairs, pictures, windows, light fixtures and dishes. Wicker furniture and dressers were smashed and thrown into a fireplace and burned, apparently to provide heat in the unheated building, he said.

Empty beer bottles and cans, plastic cups and cellophane apparently used to hold marijuana were also found, according to Hodsden. The vandals vomited in the living room and discharged two fire extinguishers inside the building, located on a dead-end road off Route 125.

No arrests have been made, Hodsden said, adding that they've tracked down some partygoers and believe they are minors.

The damage was discovered Saturday by a hiker who notified police at Middlebury College, which maintains the site. The cabin's caretaker was last there at 10 a.m. Friday, police said.

Frost, a celebrated New England poet known for such verse as "The Road Not Taken" and "The Gift Outright," died in 1963. He summered at the home from 1939 to 1963
