Obama's impotent tatics handcuffs his true nature and allows HRC to play the gender card
I have never thought that Obama's core tatic of not presenting himself as a strong black personality was a good idea it has not proved to be a lethal mistake and has backfired on him..
It has bite him in the ass in NH, instead of using his inate cultural skills to dominate a shallow woman defined only by her white hasbeen husband.. Obama has mitigated his unmatched talents and cultural capital by playing into the myth of leveling the playing field by not being a strong Black figure.
Such a stupid tatic now has him unable to sieze upon his greatest culural currency his leadership skills a talent that whites in this country have never mastered nor cultivated.
There are no white counterparts to MLK, Malcom, Marshall, Parks, Jordan, Chisholm, Roberson et al..in our country's history when you compare iconic black leaders to white leaders none yet.. Obama has self censored these cultural skills to appeal to white voters.. a segment which are white woman who betrayed him in NH.
Going forward he must reject this underdeveloped campaign style and give his full efforts and his full measure of a man otherwise he is putting a rope around his own neck..

late to the party but..
..worth noting that if cable gasbags and other assorted media pundits in both print and broadcast/cable media had to actually do the work of explaining and analysing the candidates' and the parties' positions on the issues, it would be a very uncomfortable discussion of failure and fascism. Of anti-American words and deeds so discomfiting, no-one wants to face them. And I do not exempt democrats here, either.
I think this is why we *don't* see real analysis, except in some deep-trend magazines, in various blogs, and some books. Because real analysis would expose the emperor's-new-clothes syndrome rampant both in our politics, and in our media.
Better to narrate a horse-race. It's a lot easier, more fun, and, most of all, much, MUCH less dangerous, both to the pundit, and to his/her masters.
It's also worth noting that our politics--all politics--have always been like this. America was somewhat different as long as our mass media was somewhat independent. The big change in media has been the loss of integrity in journalism, mostly through corporate ownership of media.
As long as there was a sharp communications media that could cut through the bullshit occasionally, there was hope for the American Experiment. Now? Now, the only hope left is people like Glenn, and places like progressive blogs. And the New Yorker, and Harper's, and The Nation.

Bill Clinton as Bsggsge
For once, a reporter is right on the money.
-
jkalos: I am a chat forum making macro arguments and talking points..
I would love to have the 'super negro power of knowing all white folks' in absolute terms but alas I am just a brother from off the corner trying to make a dream come true in my lifetime...

Paul D.
I realize we just passed Epiphany Sunday, but I seem to recall Golden Boy coming around to the realization that in fact only a small, violently radical group misuses the Muslim religion while most of its followers remain peaceful.
Just sayin'. Not that I expect any of our other thread hijackers to have a similar experience, but I suppose we could start a pool. I don't know why, but I feel compelled to put my money on Shooter. In about one in a thousand of his posts, I detect a small remnant of humanity. (The rest of time, I'm sure it's just gas.)

I believe
I am just a brother from off the corner trying to make a dream come true in my lifetime...
-- Thrasher
that dream will come true.
-
super negro power
god bless thrasher

@Jim White
I'll vote for him too. No matter what you say about him, he frequently sits and reads twenty some odd pages of comments he doesn't agree with. That's worth at least something.
-
Again @Thrasher
The Barack for president website has a whole gamut of social networking tools including user blogs.
I'd be fascinated to learn how other people involved in his campaign feel about your theory that his censoring himself is costing him votes. If you haven't signed up yet, I'm sure they'd welcome your contribution, and I'd be curious as to how its received.

"Partisanship" vs. "Bias"
As a former reporter who long ago fought the battle to explain the difference between "unbiased" and "objective," let me try to explain why the open partisanship of the British press is acceptable and the pretended objectivity of the American MSM is despicable.
Open partisanship says "I hate Hillary Clinton, I'm furious and astounded that she won New Hampshire, and here's a list of possible reasons why she won."
Readers/viewers understand where the commentator is coming from, and can interpret her report in that context. Perfectly clear and reasonable.
Pretended objectivity says "I am an above-it-all political reporter who knows so much more than you pitiful little voters, and I'm telling you that my objective, unbiased reading of this election is that Hillary Clinton is a cold, vicious, castrating bitch who pretended to cry and fooled a bunch of stupid women."
Readers/viewers cannot accurately interpret this report because they may suspect the commentator's real agenda, but cannot verify it.
Open partisanship is fine. Pretend objectivity is the death of democracy.

I hear you Thrasher
never underestimate the power of a brother from off the corner (even if he has no super secret powers).
-
Dirks; my plate is full ..BTW I am sure this view has been expressed to his chiefs
it really is a simple construct..but if I have the time I will roll it out to them..
-
jkalos: Thanks I really do have faith in one man-one vote
I beleive in the power, essence and life altering impact of ONE...

Yellow dog
that is a useful point. An example from my field: the best history of philosophy is by Coplestone, who writes from a clearly stated Thomist perspective but makes that clear; thus his critiques of a position are clearly from that point of view and one is then able to evaluate the position for oneself, given the clear way he presents the position he critiques.
Wish we could have some of that partisan press coverage you speak of here in the colonies.
