“I just think that gender is a stronger force than race, on the whole. Sure, there are exceptions and instances where this is not the case, but gender strikes me as much more "biological," again for lack of a better word.”
While biological differences and being the only gender that births children are important, I wouldn’t underestimate gender socialization. I happen to be a fraternal twin and was almost always around when my sister was being socialized as a girl and visa versa.
The major reason I believe that I am very comfortable around women and from a very early age recognized the unfair treatment and had a willingness to show my emotions was due to being a fraternal twin. That doesn’t mean that my male dominated society didn’t have an effect. Too many boys today are still being socialized like I was although fortunately many are not.
