The Clinton press corps gives the candidate the cold shoulder when she tries to bring them coffee and bagels. Seriously.

  • Some equivalencies here

What's funny to me about all of this is that I know more about the relationship between HRC and the press corps than I do about the press' actual reporting on her, mostly because I get my news here and CSPAN.

I think HRC has been pretty dismissive of people who might pull her off message, be it citizens or the press. Showing up on the press bus the day of the caucus with bagels only makes that seem worse.

I don't find it surprising that people who feel snubbed by her will be cold towards her in person.

The implication that their being cold to her on the bus has affected their coverage, though... I don't have the information one way or another to comment on that. I'm quite confident that their coverage has been uniformly bad, but I make that assumption without feeling obliged to back it up with research. But is it worse for her because nobody in the press likes her? And is she in any way responsible for that?

    I don't have any answers.

  • But no one disagrees with that

    LWM

but in the final analysis I make up my own mind based on what is most important to me.

At last you and I agree on something.

    -- Aycharaych

We all disagree about what is most important. One World Gummint might be most important to me. Not! But suppose it were. Totoro reminds me of many Americans who have difficulty figuring this all out. It's no east task and they no longer educate us for this in school. Civics is a low priority now. Just saw this on PBS. A show called Democracy Left Behind about how NCLB has damaged the system.

What struck me was Totoro equating the smear about Obama being a "Muslim mole" with the considered and learned opinion of a non-interventionist Col. Lang about Obama's interventionist positions. He just doesn't know who to trust so he seeks a mentor or "champion" to help him pick the right "champion" for the highest office in the land. That usually leads to disappointment because as Glenn as much as said, we never get perfection.

  • The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round

I wanted to SCREAM at Candy Crowley's sophomor(on)ic remark about Mr. Kucinic's appearance and how unprofessional and irresponsible her snide remark is. Note to journalists: I don't want you to comment in any way, shape, or form about such inanity. Keep that stuff to yourself; save it for your high school reunions or, better yet, wean yourselves off the insidious (and oh so weary) personal attacks.

Re: Hilary's donut run to the bus: I am not committed as of yet about who I will support (and don't wish to be until the California primary in Feb) so I have no axe to grind about what appears to be clear hostility to her, either personally or as a candidate, or both. If individual members of the press want to comment about her standoffishness with them, then report that, but do your best to query the candidate about it, include historical incidents like it (if they are legion, report that), investigate and write about (please!) how and why Mrs. Clinton has had a bullseye on her back for nearly a generation now, but spare the reader the back of the class jab that you surely would NOT repeat to her face.

As a former teacher, I have had enough of homecoming rumor, innuendo, and antics. If you dislike a candidate, save it for the voting booth.

  • The aristocrats

    I love that joke!

What's the name of your act?

    THE ARISTOCRATS!

  • She should have brought booze

It may sound cynical, but I think that the way to the Press Corps hearts is through their livers. She should have brought free booze - I bet they wouldn't have sat in silence for that.

  • @ Chris Sinnard

So the reporters have their little gaggle within which they can develop these stupid memes that the sheeple will endlessly parrot?

All the sanguinary details have been chronicled by the indefatigable Bob Somerby over at http://dailyhowler.com for some seven years now....

Sadly, Media Whores Online pulled the plug a while back; they were also "not to be missed" in their prime. Does anyone know what happened to the proprietors there (or who they were, if they ever let this information out)?

    Cheers,

  • re: Update II

    Are the primaries over yet?

    YOU WISH!

  • "Squirrel eating"

Semiodd: "Just ask Romney (who is being beaten by a squirrel eating baptist preacher)."

You say "squirrel eating" like it's a bad thing. A good home-cooked meal of squirrel stew on a cold night is hard to beat.

  • @Majoram

With all due respect, I think Lambert's a grade A moron,

With all due respect, you sound like me.

Forget Lambert. This is about Obama. He's made too many "mistakes" or revealing dodges to the centrist right. He's no progressive. I know people are suckers for the rhetoric. But this isn't about Obama or Hillary or even you or me. Obama was the first to get cut from the running for me based on his past statements, actions and positions. If the "going up to the hill to change stuff" rhetoric still gets you, fine. Shiny objects.

  • @ totoro

You call into question mainstream media's failings because of their inflated egos and/or their sense of insecurity.

All you have to do is watch them during Stephen Colbert's address. Try to find a guffaw there (well, maybe Scalia, IIRC, but he'd be expecting it, and accustomed to taking shots on the "chin", so to speak). The rest didn't think there'd be a right hook coming (why would there?), and they knew they'd been had ... good ... and they were definitely not laughing.

Then there's Jon Stewart's appearance on Crossfire. You know, he really wasn't very funny there, was he? And that was the end of the story: Stewart came on and he flopped. Guess he just doesn't translate well into the High And Lofty Realms of Serious Politics....

    Cheers,

  • Um, the Huckster hunted Pheasant

Because pheasant is big in Iowa. I was there for thanksgiving with my puppy and my cousin couldn't help showing me how awesome his brittany is at tracking the pheasant scent on his toy, drunk in the backyard at 3 in the morning.

Isn't Romney the one who is the scourge of the rodent population? Romney has been hunting more than two times, and he never shot his eye out. Romney's .22 is feared by every rabbit in Michigan.
