Anyone here ever heard of "Capitol Hill Blue"?
Interesting post there:
President George W. Bush tried to stop Attorney General Michael Mukasey from launching a criminal investigation into the Central Intelligence Agency’s destruction of tapes showing torture of a prisoner and has ordered top White House officials to stonewall the probe, Capitol Hill Blue has learned.
Bush is reportedly “livid” that Makasey went ahead with the investigation and even discussed firing the attorney general but senior administration officials talked the President out of taking an action that would add fuel to suspicions of a cover-up.

Interesting info that claims to be from the inside. On their FAQ page they call themselves a news site rather than a blog, although they have comments on the stories. They also appear to be a nonprofit news organization.

But...
While we are on this subject, quotation verification... one of my favorites... let me unleash this phenomenal community of brain power on this one allegedly by Lincoln:
"The land, the earth that God gave to man for his home, his sustenance, and support, should never be the possession of any man, corporation, society, or unfriendly Government, any more than the air or the water, if as much. An individual company or enterprise requiring land should hold no more in their own right than is needed for their home and sustenance, and never more than they have in actual use in the prudent management of their legitimate business, and this much should not be permitted when it creates an exclusive monopoly. All that is not so used should be held for the free use of every family to make homesteads, and to hold them as long as they are so occupied.
Aparently from a letter lincoln wrote to this fellow Gridley.

I was going to send it in to Rad Ref but you guys can have a shot.

Bear in mind, Lincoln did sign the Homestaead Act of 1862.
Some commentaters claim that Hugo Chavez' land reforms more closely resemble Lincoln's than Lenin's.

@ ondelette (10:06 AM), JulieAnna
Ondelette,
Thank you for writing that, it was exactly what was needed, and you said it a lot better than I would have.
JulieAnna,
You should make a well-reasoned reply to Ondelette. I appreciate that you have been polite, but to ignore his response would not be so.

Alleged Lincoln Quote from a 1901 book by Browne
And this fellow did some prelim research. Looks legit so far but you can never be sure unless you find the letter in one of tha many Lincoln collections and new stuff turns up still. Even forgeries, I suppose.

I know of Capitol Hill Blue. For what this is worth in regards to their credibility today and on the story you're asking about, a few years ago they reported some untruths, rumors, whatever, as fact. I don't recall off the top of my head what it was about. I do recall without a doubt, though, that their reporting was incorrect, and that they had done that on more than one occasion about more than one story.

Show me
I'm from Missouri.
Show me evidence. Irrefutable evidence. Otherwise you have PRESUMED them guilty.
We don't do that in America, right?

Congratulations on the thread your article has inspired, Glenn.
What a remarkable braintrust you've gathered here. Why it's a regular think tank! How will the Cato Institute ever compete? Or the Brookings Institution? Or the Heritage Foundation? Wow!

I remember Capitol Hill Blue as the source for GW's famous "quote".
“Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!”

I knew Abe Lincoln, and GWB is no Abe Lincoln.

Your quote from Lincoln, whether it is truly his, or not, is profound.
All that is not so used should be held for the free use of every family to make homesteads, and to hold them as long as they are so occupied."
What does it matter if he said it or someone else, or you said it? When something rings true, the source is irrelevant, to me. We get so caught up in who the messenger is that we often forget what the message is meant to communicate. So it is with religious doctrine. Each "religion" originated with some core truths that seem to be universal. As humans interpret them to meet individual or tribal/family/institutional "needs", they become twisted to conform to the group's perceived needs. Let us all stop for a moment and consider the plight of our planet and our "civilization". How does war and violence serve to bring us what we say we want: peace? Squabbling over property and religion has not brought us any closer to peace, so let's take a second look from a distance and see if we can make some new decisions about what is best for ALL.
peace,
st john

Thanks, Kitt and bamage
I did find links to the story on the Bush quote and I found several stories on them retracting a story on Ron Paul.
I guess the accuracy of today's report is anybody's guess.
-
@WT What were you thinking?
@ Chris Sinnard
For once, this isn't about Ron Paul, not even a little bit. Count your blessings.
I think Sinnard would consider it a blessing if it were about Ron Paul.
-
@ WT - In a way it is
About Ron Paul. RP is a troofer. Both factions on the right wear the tin foil. Shooter and virtue wear it because Islamofascists are coming to get them and Ron Pauliacs wear it because black helicopters are coming to get them. Stuck in a country full of paranoids and not enough tranquilizers. What fun.
