You and huxleyscat are a couple of bloody wankers! The origin of the term is irrelevant! Especially with a common language, like ENGLISH!

COL. BOYLAN: Interesting question. Why do you ask? That chicken might have had my name, my distinctive nose, my weight, fingerprints, and jaunty step, but it was NOT me. If you do a search on the web, you will see that I have been the victim of poultry identity theft of late in Vermont, where there are many bellicose blog-reading chickens.

Just A Couple Of Things
#1 -- Why is it that if you arm a maniac, a cold blooded killer, an adolescent with issues or some other disturbed individual with a firearm, they become known as a 'shooter'?? If you armed the same freak with a knife or a club or some other lethal weapon they become known as a 'crazed maniac'. Let's call a spade a spade -- seems to me that 'shooter' is a coded message that somehow gives legitimacy to a murderer toting a gun. But maybe that's just me.
#2 -- The term 'ignorant asshole' when applied to shooter242 is a wee bit inappropriate. Yes, he is an asshole, but he is not totally ignorant as we can plainly see. He is perfectly capable or receiving and passing on 'talking points' from Asshole Central. Like a good soldier, he is just doing his job, albeit poorly.

Sorry, I missed your comment when I read through the recent posts the first time. Fascinating stuff. It reminds me a little of the reports of Christmas fraternization along the trench lines near the end of WWI. If you put such incidents in a novel, no one would believe them, yet they happened right enough.
There are stranger things in heaven and earth, etc., seems to be the moral of both stories, and I bet that every person on earth has witnessed at least one that was equally out of the ordinary. If we all talked about them, maybe conventional wisdom would look a lot different than it does. Now that might be something worth doing -- some sort of Annual Day of Awe and Wonderment, followed by a ritual vow to pay more attention to the world around us.

In shooter's defense, it could be basketball (two for two) or craps. He doesn't seem the maniacal type to me, or genuinely bloodthirsty. He's pretty contemptuous of liberals -- he thinks we're too dainty to get our hands dirty with tough stuff like wars and triage and refusing welfare to undeserving widows and orphans -- but he doesn't seem to be a guy who'd enjoy hurting other people himself, not even when his ideology demands it.
Now looking the way while someone else did it for him, that I think he'd be capable of, as long as none of the blood splashed on his alligator shoes.

Reading more on the L Est Republicain charges. Some of what I'd read on it-that possibly Pakistan planted the story themselves because they had reached a truce with Bin Laden:not to turn him in in exchange for him not making trouble. That way the US could quietly go back on their way to building a highway for major opium traffic that they'd been using for years-oh-and a pipeline. Said Iran is and always has been thier (neocons) target-why they've never pursued Pakistan and OBL. Armitage, this article said, has been involved with the drug trade for yrs, going back to Iran/Contra. Pakistan is a major route on that-with the help of the Russian/ Jewish mafia and Victor Bout.
Saw another interview with Fran Townsend questioned in 06 about the OBL charges that he was dead-and she refused to take questions on.
As far as Bhuttos death goes. Times of India has some vid up of a woman who prepared her body for burial. Said there was definitely an entrance and exit wound to the neck. Said Bhutto had lost so much bloood that it still had not coagulated even at the time her body was being prepared. Said major blood loss.
Not buying the head hitting a "latch" at all.
