Shooter's misogyny, it seems to me, is a subset of his more general misanthropy.

I'm inclined to agree, though his dyspepsia toward me, at least lately, seems distinguished by his use of the word "bitch". My aim was to educate, but if my "bitching" is getting under his skin, well then, good for me. I, too, have friends living with HIV, so I can relate to what you are saying. Shooter's casual ignorance and complete lack of compassion are telling, as you noted.

I guarantee you it had nothing whatever to do with misogyny on my part.

The thought never crossed my mind. It's not hard to recognize the he-man woman-haters that lurk around here. No one in their right mind would try to jam that shoe onto your foot.

  • Dare I?

GLENN GREENWALD: The hypocrisy of that chicken is obvious to anyone but the Serious policy and media experts who have soiled their professions by pampering to the Beltway hen house elite who are incapable of realizing the excrement they have rolled in and can’t see the chicken is the victim of eavesdropping, torture and repugnant FISA violations.

THE HUCKABEE: I would never question the religious beliefs of anyone because that poor chicken could just have wandered away from our Lord and due to the blessings of Hope, I know that her kind has only been around for 6,000 years and in my conservative opinion, she could be a caucus voter so we need to protect her until I leave Iowa.

  • A Question:

If an intellectual comes up with an idea, which is then grossly distorted by someone else, is the intellectual still responsible for the mess caused by the distortion?

I guess Nazism completely (and I suspect willfully) misunderstanding Nietzsche still qualifies as “strongly influenced by.” Of course, every German soldier had “God is with us” written on his belt buckle, so this system of assigning blame could get a little problematic.

Even if an intellectual expounds on the necessity of killing people, shouldn’t the bulk of the blame be put on the people who actually put such theories into practice? Or are they just hapless victims, unable to resist the power of the intellectual’s force of thought? Never really thought of it that way before. Maybe I should feel sorry for Hitler, failing under the sway of the evil super-mind Nietzsche.

I agree! I don't want the anonymous option to go away, just so I can enjoy LWM's anonymous postings. They're as funny as those from that Ron Pauliac guy.

  • Thank god someone said what I think about the media drivel about Pakistan

It's Instapundit Week. There is nothing more embarrasing than listening to media pundits talk about countries like Pakistan. They don't speak the language(s), don't know the history of the country, develop a violent case of historical amnesia and forget the less than salutary role of the current U.S. administration in Pakistani politics, and amazingly start echoing each other's pompous rhetoric about "democracy." We are well within the Twilight Zone of the U.S. War on Terror rhetoric in which every event, in any corner of the world, is really all about "us." The political narcissism is breathless, the hypocrisy over the top, and the blather unintelligent. No, here I completely agree with Glenn. It's stupid. There is simply no other word for it.

And he's right. It'll all be forgotten in a few days. At the most.

  • WT re Anons

I agree. LWM isn't too hard to pick out - as Anon or some of the other AKAs I think he uses. I enjoy his various alters as well. There's one fairly insightful Anon (that is not LWM) whom I really enjoy, and I think legitimately feels s/he needs to remain anonymous because of their job. And, then there are the Anonymous Cowards who simply want to talk trash. Get enough of all these Anons side-by-side and I don't find them difficult to distinguish.

  • I thought Madam Bhutto

Was a very brave woman, and probably the most handsome woman to lead a nation in modern times. Politics is not a game there, or anywhere else. Any who think the veneer of civility we have here is more than that, a veneer, are just kidding themselves. What does it say about us that Pakistan had a woman executive before America? What does it say about us that Madam Bhutto was far braver than our current Coward in Chief or the VP?

I predict no one will answer these questions.

  • Glenn -- where are you?

Please write a new post -- this thread has degenerated into something quite painful! And for the rest, please stop the name calling and swearing? Or, pick up a good book and wait for a new discussion. Thanks!

  • the lesson of Kennedy vs Nixon

I would like to say to Dogfather: "Absolutely correct on every point."

Let's not forget that Al Gore was also attacked for what he wore and what colors he chose.

All you republicans: if this is best you've got then you've got nothing... but then, you've never had anything to begin with. Just a bunch of hot air.

  • Mark Crispin Miller

    Wrote _The Bush Dyslexicon_

Miller basically made the observation that when Bush is speaking about something which he cares about and knows something about (baseball for instance) then his speech is indeed much better than what we have come to expect from him in public situations.

It is the unfamiliar which Bush mangles, times when he has to think about or remember things in which he really lacks any interest. Miller also notes that Bush very often leaves clues in his speech as to what his true feelings might be.

I've heard a lot of speculation that Bush suffers from Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Personally I suspect is his a sociopath or well along the road to sociopathy.

  • Bush and "Where's Sally?"

The problem with her Bush analogy is that it is incomplete.

A complete description of Bush's personality would include Bush holding off assisting until days after the fire was over.

Then Bush would deny future homeowners insurance assistance for similar disasters by changing the laws to aid insurance companies.

Then Bush would step aside while bulldozers came in to tear down what was left of the house so they can replace it with a casino, or a prison, or a military barracks.

Then he would stand in front of the teevee bragging how he said "Where's Sally?", even if he did not.

It is in reality much worse than that, but this is a holy week.
