  • The Most Cringe-Inducing Things About Straight Men With No Confidence

are their self-revealing diatribes against gay men.

No one has to listen terribly hard to hear you digging.

Can we cover you up now?

  • Of course, you're right, Pedinska!

I was looking for a foolish consistency. ;~)

  • There is this Bhutto tie-in to the Peggy Noonan quote.

At the risk of sounding terribly insensitive, it's worth saying that unlike in Pakistan, in this country, political assassinations tend to be bloodless hit jobs, carried out by the usual suspects in the MSM. There was no autopsy on Howard Dean's candidacy, but we all know that it wasn't the scream that killed it. It was the media's distortion and exploitation of it, coupled with their insinuations that he was unelectable, that did in the highly popular candidate best known for his anti-war and anti-media monopoly stances. True to form, Peggy Noonan went out of her way to spew some venom at John Edwards, this year's Howard Dean. Like the man said, "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win." Of course I'm not saying that John Edwards is Gandhi, but you get the point.

  • We all know the type...

Noonan is the perfect prototype of the Republican wife. We all know the type. She never disturbs her pretty mind with troubling, complicated thoughts like those stupid, unkempt Democratic women who are always talking about the yucky lives of the poor and underprivileged. Her husband has two, and she spends the money without ever questioning where it came from. OMG, why would anyone do THAT? Life is good, if you just ignore the riff-raff losers and look the other way. Smile and vote Republican (why of course, who would EVER consider anything else, I mean anyone who MATTERS?)

  • Stepford Pundit Peggy & Her Ideological Son, Sully

Admittedly, Peggy Noonan is just Ann Coulter with a Martha Stewart-ish veneer. Or Maureen Dowd with a transfusion & a lobotomy. But still...there's a disturbing ideological & pathologic geneology underlying these rhetorical resemblances.

Quite a few months back, when I could still bear to read Andrew Sullivan, before his florid Clinton-ophobia became quite-so-fully-blown, he wrote about his deep (& deeply creepy) affection for Noonan. And the quality he most admired in her? You guessed it: her Reasonable-ness! In a comment far more revealing than he probably intended, he went on to say how much dear Peggy reminded him (sigh) of his own, beloved mother. (I'll just let that one simmer for now...)

Peggy, for her part, takes her own (actual) son along on ickily mommy-son dates among the Beltway elite & has praised his preternatural poise in faithfully regurgitating Republican talking points while conversing with The Serious Grown-Ups. John Yoo, David Addington, Richard Perle & Mme Cheney were reputedly simply dazzled by Peggy's precious, precocious boy-bitch.

If Peggy Noonan really does remind Andrew Sullivan of his own mother I can only say it goes a long way towards explaining the neurotic, misogynist, authoritarian-loving illogic which continually undermines his considerable intellect.

  • The Fireman

Yup, Bush ain't that guy. Rather, he's like the firefighter who is also the arsonist; he sets the fire for excitement, for aggrandizement, whatever, risking the lives of innocents in order to display his manliness to satisfy his own ego.

Of course, one key difference is that he is not actually fighting the fire he started, is he

Heh...what you sayin'? That Boy George is a regular Guy Montague?

  • Yes.

...though I do not wish to make any excuses for anyone within this maladministration, is that the school location was "secure," having already been thoroughly checked out, etc., by the Secret Service.

The area was secured and the President's itinerary wasn't publicized until the 7th of Sept. I'm sure it's classified but if there aren't a few Stinger SAMs in one of the SS support vehicles I'd eat Bucky1's shorts.

  • @anonymous

You can fetishize the "stinger missiles" and the "secure location" and all the other military apparatus all you want; it doesn't have anything to do with the core issue: the President did not react to Card's interruption, because he was not told what to do and did not grasp what was happening since he did not understand the import of Card's message. Had a Democrat done this (as I said above) it would be brought up every time that Democrat's name was mentioned in the context of national security as evidence of incompetence.

  • Ondelette

Last one I promise. Someone in the comments at Teeth Maestro's blog put up this You Tube clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyMNJ6d9ZBQ

Govt video showing killer firing three times to assassinate benazir bhutto, leader of ppp, pakistan. Pakistan won't be same without her. Now it is turn for Sanam Bhutto. Video taken from CNN
  • In case you missed it last time

Last time, they changed the subject from Afghanistan to Iraq, and they started the day after 9/11. Now the desired change is from Pakistan to Iran, and it's started the day after 12/27. Just in case you missed it the last time, or thought they couldn't possibly try this again:

  • @The Officer in the Village People (Mancuso)

The most cringe-inducing thing about gay men is their terrible, self-hating self-centeredness. In the world their minds inhabit, everything anyone says is a catty cut at the gay man. They must listen with four ears at all times, in all places, for fear of missing a dig. It's a shame. Those gay men, many of whom seem otherwise intelligent (thought not, frankly, well-adjusted) become distinguished by their extreme cattiness - none more so that Glenn Greenwald.

A well worded ad-hominem, but an empty one. Those gay men, gay men unlike yourself, do you mean?

    Swing and a miss.

  • candidate

Is there any candidate who you think would actually leave Pakistan alone? Paul, Kucinich and maybe Gravel?

By the way, are you going to endorse a presidential candidate?

  • Another Day at the Zoo?

    Obeserving the animals again?

  • Now that was a hoot ...

This thread has been a bore, and petty to boot.

Then LWM wrote, "Hey anonymous coward Why not use your real name? Afraid you might look stoopid ..." to some unknown yahoo that may even be himself.

LWM has used anonymous more than all the other anons put together, I wager; plus the other handles he uses. He might claim that we have not caught him several times at this bloody awful tactic; but only a twit would try that one.

I hope he has seen how cowardly he looks when he goes anon; and how irritating it is to have some yahoo spout barmy claptrap behind the anon tag. I think Salon should disable the practice --- no handle, no post.
