  • all this talk about hair

Is the usual republican nonsense because quite frankly, they've got nothing else but to call people names.

And boy is that a good debate strategy.

  • LWM

Someone turned him upside down and poured conservative bullshit into him until he was stuffed like a Christmas turkey or goose. I can't believe anyone still thinks this.

    -- L.W.M.

Yeah. I was typing in something to that effect, but I got tired. It was like taking out the trash one time too many. I just couldn't handle the stench one more time. Thanks for saving me the trouble.

  • Poof wins, 15-1

When one googles "poof" and "hair" there are 911,000 citations. When one googles "pouf" and hair, there are 62,000 citations. "Pouf" and "gay" doesn't even come close to "poof" and "hair".

    Mountain from a molehill.

  • Terry Ott

When the fuck did Google become the bible of the world's information and the be all to end all of "rightness"?

  • One question for

Anonymous goose reciting conservative and GOP talking points:

Thank shysters like Edwards. Trial lawyers have had a greater effect on the cost of living, the availablity of insurance and the like than anything corporate America has ever done--and they've done a lot.

Since the time that conservatives took over and put a cap on jury awards, has the cost of insurance or living come down? I wonder why?

  • Noonan & Reagan

Noonan must have been something to watch whenever the voices in her head danced madly when she was around him: “He’s my President.” “He’s my daddy!” “He’s my lover.” “He’s my President.” “He’s my daddy!” “He’s my lover.”

  • @Terry Ott

Gee, I want to believe you when you say you think Edwards has the country's best interests at heart but, somehow, it just doesn't ring true. The fact that he checks his appearance before appearing on national television is a "sharp jab in the chin" to your perception of his character!? And you think no other candidate does this? Romney, for instance, just springs from his bed every morning with his hair in full, gelled excellence? The rest of the candidates have just learned from the bashing Edwards has received over NOTHING and are extremely cautious when they prepare to go on camera.

And if it makes you feel any better, I have seen Edwards in appearances where he looks slightly disheveled and a little sweaty. Hope you don't change your mind and think THAT information is a "sharp jab" to what you think of him.

  • Reality eludes some people

BUT I would submit that someone who gets (very very) expensive haircuts, spends a couple of minutes preening and admiring himself in a mirror, etc., HAS told us something about himself.

Name a presidential candidate who doesn't spend a couple minutes looking in the mirror and getting expensive haircuts, wearing expensive clothes, etc. Name a presidential candidate who doesn't have a team of advisors in charge of managing their appearance. Name a presidential candidate that doesn't spend plenty of time in the makeup chair before going on TV.

    Should I hold my breath?

Candidates, thanks to our brainless media and mouth-breathers like yourself, are judged on appearance and hence pay attention to it.

As far as poof/pouf this piece does not exist in a total vacuum. Edwards has been savaged for appearing gay and was outright called both a faggot and a girl. Noonan is a professional, she knows that gay stereotypes include the hairdresser and Queer Eye guys and knows how to effectively play to those stereotypes. That's her job.

The right-wing strategy with Edwards is to paint him as effeminate, emasculated and gay. These words are not chosen accidentally. Mitt Romney also poofs his hair but you'll never hear Noonan say that, instead she'll say he "manages" his hair in "crisp, efficient" manner or some bullshit like that.

  • He isn't from around here

You and Bucky1 use that word, "codswallop". You aren't Bucky1. -- anonymous

A conspiracy? No, I've got it -- a cabal, that's it.... And I bet you thought they'd swallowed a dictionary or something.

  • Helmet Hair would be better?

Edwards and the rest could save themselves a lot of 'poofing' trouble if they would just wear helmet hair like Trent Lott does. Of course, once in a while ol' Trent likes to go in for a new doo, too.

  • Aha. One of the usual suspects

A conspiracy? No, I've got it -- a cabal, that's it.... And I bet you thought they'd swallowed a dictionary or something.

  • Bush's neighbors

I for one would be shocked (shocked!) to learn that Bush is even aware that he had neighbors, never mind how many kids and what their names were. If his neighbor's home caught on fire, I imagine he might notice the smoke obscuring the view from his plane window and wonder why (why?!) must people be so inconsiderate.

The real problem with facile analogies like Noonan's is that they only emphasize how desperately glad the average American is that George Bush is NOT the person responsible for directing fire trucks to their homes.

  • Kitt

Awwww, wouldn't you prefer James Traficant hair to Lott's? It was so much more entertaining.

  • They Colluded!

C'mon.. Tell me that William Rehnquist, Antonin Scalia, Sandra Day O'Connor, Clarence Thomas and Anthony Kennedy never spoke either to each other or to anyone else regarding how they were going to rule on that case.

We need collusion insurance but the Shyster Trial Lawyers made it too costly!

  • Do juries conspire or collude?

The Shyster Trial Lawyers would have you believe they "deliberate" but I don't buy it. It's too costly!

  • Glenn is no mere serious adult

He may be the smartest guy on the web. Another contender and fully-grown man, Dan Froomkin of WashingtonPost.com, calls Glenn "scary smart". If the Bushies were half as smart, they'd move to Paraguay now, but nooo...

  • The pouf/poof issue

Everyone knows that "pouf" is a noun and can refer to a woman's hairstyle, a portion of a garment gathered into a puff, or a rounded ottoman. Judging from the context, it is clear that Noonan is saying that on at least one occasion Edwards styled his hair into the form of a rounded ottoman while watching YouTube videos with one eye and staring into a mirror with the other one -- troubling behavior to say the least.

Let's not get sidetracked into endless debates about semantics.
