Real Man Ronnie
Reagan never spent time getting His hair done. Rolled out of bed in the morning looking just like that. And, as we all know, He would never color His hair. A gray hair never grew out of His glorious head. He never even wore make-up during His time in Hollywood. A truly manly-man, a leader of men, wouldn't allow himself to be girlied up.
Oh, and Rudy never really appeared in drag, that was just a photo shop thing. He's as manly as they come. Ask his gay roomies.

We need grown-ups who give the finger.
Peggy Noonan? Isn't she dead yet? I guess she's never seen the youtube video of then-Governor Bush's idea of preparation: Giving the finger to his unseen audience, eliciting laughter from his off-camera sycophants. Can she come up with a verb for that?

really OT; please forgive me--
…is anyone here aware of the story about Bhutto claiming in an interview with David Frost a few months ago that Bin Laden was murdered by Omar Sheikh? it’s a fairly amazing claim, and I suspect that it’s been addressed/dismissed elsewhere. if anybody here could give me the shortform explanation, I’d really appreciate it. thanks!

Peggy Noonan is not a grown-up, just another famous fool
What a complete lack of ability to read character she betrays. Some people would be ashamed to ever show their face in public again after being so wrong so publicly about so much, but her complete lack of insight apparently extends to herself as well as to others.

apparently about 6:00 in...

Where's Sally?
Based on Bush's record in the Texas Air National Guard, I would expect him more likely to offer: "Let me hold your jacket while you find Sally".
-
What a load.
If there's a fire on the block, Bush doesn't come help. He hides in his bunker.
-
One has to wonder
if, in Peggy Noonan World, Paul "Comblicker" Wolfowitz is a serious person.
-
She's kidding right?
Didn't this twat work for a President who took second billing to a chimp? Does she really think that dim bulb didn't do some hair poofing on those Hollywood sets?
-
I'm not a Noonan fan, but you're putting waaaay too fine a point on the poofing thing.
Mr. Greenwal: As a woman who is experienced in these things, I am certain that by referring to Mr. Edwards "poofing" his hair, Ms. Noonan was using the term in its colloquial context--e.g., the physical act of fluffing one's hair to give it more volume. Yes, there is a somewhat effeminate subcontext there, but I don't think she was making a concrete statement about Mr. Edwards' sexuality, which is what you seem to imply in your article.
As an aside, why is Noonan making these allegations when her Main Man #1, the guy she actually worked for, was the King of Hairspray, Hair Dye, Pancake and Cheek Rouge? I remember looking at Reagan in the olden days and marveling at his makeup job and the absolute immobility of his pompadour. The fact he made his personal ministrations before the YouTube era is really meaningless to the point she's trying to make.

George, John and a house full of burning children
I notice that Noonan doesn't have Bush doing anything heroic or even useful at this fire. He's standing some distance away so that he can direct the rig full of blind firemen.
Somehow I think that John Edwards might run into that house to get the children out even if it means that his hair gets disarrayed. At least I hope he would.

Go, Edwards
GG:
Whether Noonan meant "pouf," "poof" or intended to invoke both meanings, the point -- and her stupidity in this regard -- is exactly the same
Peggy Noonan will remain an idiot until she realizes she speaks "stupid" for no one but herself. However, thanks to her angering me via your column, I've sent Edwards a bunch more last-minute money. Good luck, John! I hope you overturn all the beltway pundits' applecarts, and their long streak of being completely wrong about absolutely everything continues unabated.

Yogi's Rule
Excellent column today, but I do have one, rather small bone to pick with Glenn. Whenever writing about Peggy Noonan, you MUST use the word "Unctuous"
-
@annagranfors
Thanks, annagranfors! I think she just misspoke, she meant Daniel Pearl, not Osama bin Laden -- note that David Frost didn't pick it up.
Using your link, and what Benazir Bhutto said on it, and the name from the NYT, albeit spelled differently, I came up with this:
http://tinyurl.com/22q56k
If Brigadier Ejaz Shah in the article is the same Ijaz Shah Bhutto mentions as head of the Intelligence Bureau (very likely), the guy's got a history with Jaish-e-Muhammad (terrorists who infiltrate Kashmir from Pakistan) and is much more than a "political enemy" of Bhutto.

About Bush's having "two of 'em"
The article on SadlyNo.com in which Noonan celebrates Bush's balls after his "re-election" only confirms Glenn's interpretation of her use of "poof." That is, Bush had two big balls because he had a desire to use indiscriminate violence without concern for the subsequent complications or ramifications. Edwards, on the other hand, would consider the ramifications and use force in a much more judicious manner than Bush did (admittedly, an extremely low bar). Therefore, Edwards' masculinity seems suspect, and he's a poof.
Of course, Bush doesn't have two balls. He's a bully which means he's a coward, despite Noonan's assessment of what he'd do in an emergency. One only has to look at how he responded on 9/11, both in the classrooom and Air Force One, to see what a manifest coward he is.
This was Noonan's most offensive sentence: "Mr. Bush is the triumph of the seemingly average American man. " The key word is seemingly. Why does the grandson of a Senator, son of a President, and squanderer of the best education money can buy seem average? Because whores like Noonan propagandize that he is.

@ Thrasyboulos - He's alive and well
That's an old Bearden article.

I think the point I was trying to make is that the Pashtuns are fiercely independent and there are many different groups among those who share the common language, Pashto. They like to be left alone.

this isn't silly
...Because Noonan and her like will use it to be very dismissive of a clearly contending candidate.
She is trying to end Edwards' candidacy with a flip of the wrist (so to speak) and without any discussion of his platform and his goals.
And THAT is what is unreasonable.
