There are several valuable lessons to learn from examining how the establishment's FISA bill was disrupted.
  • Reid must go! Dodd for Majority Leader.

As this effort to date has clearly been led by the efforts of individuals such as, (primarily) Mr. Greenwald, we must not forget to thank them for their tireless efforts to shine a light on this process which usually takes place in the darkest corners of the capital. As a result, the politicians are waking up to a new reality where individuals are informed before the damage is done. They try to weasel their way out of the light, but this shows there's no place to hide.

Why is Harry Reid the Majority Leader? Can he be removed? Voted down? Asked to step down? He's clearly a failure to the majority party and American civil rights in general. With the increased level of scrutiny that the FISA effort has shown possible, why have a hack like Reid in charge? Senator Dodd would get more notice as Majority Leader at this point than he's getting as a Presidential candidate. A constitutional defender would be just the parry to the Bush administration’s final attacks during 2008.
