We need a statement from Senator Byrd
I called Senator Byrd's office today, to plead for him to come out with a statement to place Senator Reid's actions on the hold in historical perspective. As the longest-serving member of the Senate and a long-time student of the history of Senate parliamentary procedures, Senator Byrd's view on these actions should hold tremendous sway. If anyone on this thread has a better way to get this message in to the Senator's staff than a mere nobody like me calling his Washington office, please get this plea to them as soon as possible. I think Senator Byrd could be a tremendous force in this discussion.

It is time for Reid to go.
It is unacceptable and outrageous that a Democratic majority leader would respect the holds placed by the minority while ignoring a hold placed by one of the members of his own caucus.
Does Reid really think that a hypothetical furture Majority Leader McConnell will respect a hold from the Democratic side of the aisle when his own constitutents are worked up about the issue?
Reid must go.

Reid is a traitor
Reid's actions do not defend and protect the Constitution.
His actions undermine and harm the Constitution and therefore, they harm we, the people. Reid's actions do not reflect the will of we, the people.
Harry Reid is committing treason.

@Jm White
If a thousand or so nobodies like you and me sent a message to Sen. Byrd, he might get it on.
I wrote a quick note this morning on his web site. (Google robert byrd; his Senate website is listed first). I wrote a letter in his constituent contact box and simply asked him to stand with Sen. Dodd in his effort to call attention to the immunity provisions in the FISA bill, emphasizing (though of course Byrd knows this) Dodd's threat to filibuster.
Just say it, respectfully, as an appeal for help.
Lots and lots of notes like this to his staff may ring a bell.

re: It is time for Reid to go.
And he can take Pelosi with him. those two have demonstrated the most abysmal leadership imaginable.
In the long run, it would have been much better had the Deomcrats not retaken the Senate in 2006. Reid is an absolute disgrace.

Crickets......
I suppose its too early to predict how all this will play out for Joe Sixpack who'll eventually hear about it on his local TV 10PM news. But the silence to this point on the part of our favorite MSM villians has been quite complete.

It's not just Reid, Glenn
18 Democratic Senators have his back.
As opposed to the 14 Dem Senators who supposedly "support" Dodd, but are -- with the exception of Feingold and Kennedy -- doing nothing.
And Reid says Dodd and Feingold want it this way.
Reid is only a fragment of The Problem.
A piece.
It's much broader and deeper than just his own self.

After the '04 election
I took a break from politics. It was too much. I was heartbroken and angry. How could the American public be so ignorant? Why don't they see this administration for what it is- a group of law-breaking right wing nuts intent on stomping all over the constitution and the rights it supposedly protects?
I was given some hope in '06- surely now the Democrats would put a stop to this insanity. I can't believe how wrong I was. How can people like Harry Reid and Jay Rockefeller stand there, with a straight face, and still claim to be a member of the Democratic party? I am furious with the likes of those two- I can't imagine how I'd feel if I was one of their constituents. Thank goodness I have Teddy Kennedy- I'm so proud that he's helping Dodd today. I'm rethinking who I support for the Democratic primary now. I was firmly in the HRC camp before- I really thought she was stronger than this. But, if she can't even take one day and stop campaigning to protect the rights of Americans then how can I trust her to do that while president? And Obama? Politics of Hope, my ass. He's no different that the rest. I hope they prove me wrong. I really do.

18 Democratic Senators have his back.
I know - I mentioned that in the earlier post ("Reid's procedural conniving was supported by numerous Democratic Senators, including Pat Leahy, Dick Durbin and others"). But I think there are Senators who support Reid no matter what he decides -- his loyal allies -- and this was Reid's decision. Some may specifically be glad he is doing it this way, whereas others think in their insulated, twisted way that Committee Sequence and Standing behind the Leader on Procedure outweighs the issues and values involved in these bills.

Very Serious Senators Rockefeller and Bond have been speaking on the floor
Senator Rockefeller wants to reassure people concerned about such arcane things, that the telecom immunity provision is "narrowly drawn," and then laughably states that it "only" covers the period from 9/11/00 to 1/00/07. I guess they plan to close the barn door now that the cows have escaped.
And he is proud it exempts public officials from the immunity clause. Of course, "executive privilege" will protect government officials from testifying in any court proceedings, as we've seen, so that provision is window dressing. It's important not to explicitly state you are stripping Americans of their rights; that might actually create public protest. Better to throw the public meaningless cake crumbs in order keep up a pretense of concern, without, of course, granting American citizens anything of value.

Dodd is speaking now.
Watch a patriot in action.

Glenn
I think my senator Dick Durbin is an example of a loyal follower of Reid even though he probably would prefer that Reid made a different decision. Reid made Durbin his right hand man and number two on the Dem side of the senate. I can e-mail or call Durbin and it will be of no avail because of loyalties that are necessary in political alignments within a party in the congress.

The only Solution is to run for Office as an independent
What else can you do faced with corruption and fraud on such a vast scale? Creeping Fascism has actually become an Actual Predatory fascist State masquerading as our federal government. Reid is a quisling. A fucking quisling. At least Lieberman is honest about his treachery.
