Good Marooning Americanise!
Dan Fromkin may wonder if the future anthropologist will send youthful scholars down into caves? "What Happened to Americans?" Dead Poisoned Soil, Air, Food, and Water was full of toxic particulates. It was worst of a demise than iron and lead slow deaths of the past-scholars said? Probably, and maybe worst. We'll need to wait.
Future dwellers on the earthen "soil" will need to find fat NSA dossiers that were written about Glenn and friends? Hey Creepy spy's, Hi! Ya's sneaks.
The water swampland lovers who do muddy cave spelunking digging, will need to dunk-low full time and get all wet. Cave crawlers will wonder why 21st century congressional "Blue Dogs" in the House did not reorganize the government to prevent the imminent government collapse? They were not 'potty-house-trained' and soiled the whole world. Yep.
Spy dog retrievers looking for blank-hole stored in electronic data-bases will find the spy-black-electronic hole got a electrical Shock.
A spy triggered "Red Button" IRS farm audit researcher came to the realization if ya's start a Bank-Account by depositing a Plug Nickle there Isa' an immediate FBI, NSA, CIA, and American Kennel Club investigation! That's my experience.
The Spy Files of other Americans may be worst?: Interrogator's may ask: "Where and why do you (bebop-boo-boo) own a blonde border collie Retriever?"O, to lead me to the tub, the outhouse, the chicken coop, and to do a Irish baby sitter assignment gig at the other farm plat-lot-place. On a stroll to greet neighbors, we'll name horses, cats, sheep, llamas, alpacas, geese, and maybe rename the penguin Opus, wolf-woof!
O, just skip...
huh. Damn peeps!
Have a happy day.
anyway we can. huh.

I told them so
And most strikingly of all, the political movement that spent decades telling Americans that they stood for limited government and the rule of law and against federal incursions into our lives -- the right-wing "conservative" movement -- has boisterously cheered on every one of these lawless expansions of the surveillance state, all because, for now, they are at its helm.
This is why I'm an unapologetic leftist. This "conservative movement" is the same cowardly faction in American politics that plotted with Hitler against FDR and America for the "inevitable defeat" of the U.S. that fortunately never came and made war on their own citizens who hinted they might see some value in the ideals of democratic socialism, hounding many of them into oblivion with false accusations of plotting with Stalin when they plainly had not. Fortunately for us the ACLU has yet to succumb, not for lack of trying. You will find this "quote" at various right wing sites. It reeks of Bircherite conspiracism:
"The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." -- Norman Thomas, Socialist Party Presidential Candidate in 1940, 1944 and 1948, co-founder of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
I can't tell you who originsally said it, only that it certainly wasn't Norman Thomas.

I can tell you that Reagan was fond of quoting it as the exact words of Norman Thomas.
I have always had the same reaction to the right as the aphasics Andrew Weill wrote about in, The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat, as they watched Reagan speak on TV.
That skill was suspected for a long time, but the new study is the first to prove it. In the book, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, neurologist-author Oliver Sacks describes a group of aphasics watching Ronald Reagan speaking on television and laughing at what they perceived as deceptive statements by him.

Fortunately I was dropped on my head one too many times as a child.

Weep for America
It's hard watching our democracy swirling down the drain. I really don't know what to do. The Democrats aren't the solution, just one part of the problem. They aren't an alternative to saving our Country. Right now all we have is the internet, and I don't believe that is going to last. The Government can have us spied on at will and our access to the internet is going to soon follow. We'll get through this election and that will be it. No more unregulated access.

Oliver Sacks
Not Andrew Weill.
I really did - get dropped on my head.
-
It's amazing to me...
how quickly and easily folks will wave off and excuse the entire "lawless" nature of this issue as though the government would never break its own laws without a good reason.

When will the democrats see the truth?
I really don't think right.
For years I have thought that the republicans couldn't look themselves in the mirror for all the bad things they have done to the people of America and the bad stuff in the world. Well, they just don't care. They are diverting money to the rich, draining our resources and destroying our constitution. I care so much that I couldn't even imagine that they don't care. They also are complicit in destroying our environment.
Glenn has finally made me realize how complicit that the democrats have been. The post today is the slide toward the police state with dems right in there with the republicans. These democrats simply don't care about the constution, our republic, and avoiding being a police state.
Chris Dodd, now more than ever, we need you to champion the cause and stop telcom imminity. If you fold now, you become one of them.
When will the democrats see the truth? My level of hope goes down daily.

Just A Matter of Time
When I was young I read The Federalist Papers and even back then I wondered why the founders' eloquence and intelligence and solid grasp of history had slowly vanished from political discourse, and indeed from the American government itself. Reason used to be employed to enlighten or to inform the public but these days it serves only to advance morally bankrupt policies. Like warrantless wiretapping. Like torturing alleged terrorists. Like politicizing the Department of Justice.
George Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, the entire Republican party and all their enablers on both sides of the aisle will eventually be seen as the traitors they are. Their corrupt policies will be reversed, and many of them will go to prison. It's just a matter of time. At least that's what I keep telling myself.
