In the Orwellian world of the Democratic establishment, articles that describe them as "bowing" and "surrendering" demonstrate how strong and tough they are.

  • "under the son?"

Here we have a great example of avoiding the issue to attack the messenger. Worse is the twisting of facts to gain personal posture. Adjusting an argument in pursuit of a consistent goal is not being contrary to everything.

It is this desire for self-aggrandizement over what's good for the country that poisons the well for most liberals. Attacking someone else is much more palatable than preaching pacifism, and why we should become meek. As long as the left refuses to be honest with themselves and the country, this pattern of defeat for Democrats will continue. Perhaps you should prepare for losing not only the Presidency, but Congress as well.

  • @ Jim White

Glenn has cited poll after poll indicating that the American people overwhelmingly want the war brought to an end.

The American people want the hostile occupation of Iraq by American troops to end. It's about American blood and treasure. To paraphrase what LBJ once said: We are not about to send American boys to do what Iraqi boys ought to be doing to protect themselves. If I had to bet money on it, we will not see a full withdrawal of troops any time soon, or any Fall of Saigon (Baghdad) photo op. It's a quagmire but it's not Vietnam. We stumbled into the middle of a civil war in Vietnam. In Iraq we caused one. We may be down to 1/5 current troop strength by 2013 and as the situation stabilizes and security improves, hopefully, see further draw downs.

Before I get attacked as a neocon apologist, Shooter is a fabulist and propagandist who will say anything. I try to deal in the reality based world. I think many of you should prepare for this unpleasant eventuality. Democrats with a chance of getting elected may not be making promises of immediate withdrawal because they now realize they cannot make good on them, for a number of reasons, some you might agree with and some you might not. It's not a good idea to make promises you can't keep. It can be political suicide. Did they use opposition to the the war to their benefit in the 2006 election? You bet. Look at all the people who claim they were shafted. I just wanted to get Republicans out of office, but I did feel shortchanged on the subpenas. I thought they would be flying hither and yon. Still, I feel less shafted. The only people promising withdrawal in 6 to 9 months of being elected don't have a snowball's chance in hell of being elected. It's easy to make promises you know you can't keep when you will never have to keep them.

  • I'm not voting anymore, there's no point

Time to brush up on another tongue and set sail for somewhere where at least everyone admits the government is a gaggle of craven criminal retards.

  • Congressional Christmas declaration

December 25 is an old Pagan holiday carried over to Christian doctrine as a mean of converting pagan to Christianity. Jesus was actually born in September according to the Bible. He was born 6t month after his cousin John the Baptist was was born in the late spring simultaneously with a tradition Jewish feast that occurs in March. What Congress has done with all their daring is to declare a pagan holiday as sacrosanct in the name of Christianity. This is blasphemy, so Congress has sanctified blasphemy of Christ. With bravery like this, catering to the lowest common denominator of society, I feel certain that Congress will protect my interest and that of society.

  • The Nine

To be fair, the Democratic-led House was able to pass an extremely important bipartisan resolution yesterday -- by a vote of 372-9 --

Perhaps there are only 9 Dems with a spine left

    Gary Ackerman

    Yvette Clarke

    Diana DeGette

    Alcee Hastings

    Barbara Lee

    Jim McDermott

    Bobby Scott

    Pete Stark

    Lynn Woolsey

It's no wonder nothing ever gets done.

  • Leadership, part II

The real leadership that I would like to see emerge in the Democratic Party would do so by pushing back on just those RWNM talking points where the current "leaders" are caving in:

    • Real strength comes in not abandoning our principles when taking on an enemy. These principles have served our county well in taking on previous challenges and Al Queda is weak compared to previous enemies we have defeated without compromising our principles.
    • Real strength comes from not allowing others to label our actions. Again, others may call us "weak on terror", but let us call ourselves "strong on principles".
    • Real strength comes from an open pursuit of truth and a willingness to acknowledge, and then correct, errors.
    • Real strength comes from supporting all segments of our society, not just those of the privileged class and the largest corporations.

I could go on, but you get the picture.

Where are those strong leaders we need so much? As I mentioned in my previous post, at least some of them are in Washington and we need to do what we can to help them take on the authority they need.

  • @The Nine

Quite a few of them are from California.

    :-)

  • A few points..

Does anyone else see the irony of Congress lauding followers of the Christ in American and around the world whilst simultaneously pursuing a path of interminable war?

"Peace on Earth, goodwill toward men", eh?

The entities without spines on planet Earth far outnumber those with spines, have been around far longer and will be here aeons after those entities with spines are extinct.

The Anthrax mailer is still on the loose.. His very first victim was at an organization called "American Media" and his other targeted victims were prominent members of the American media and the Democratic leadership. All of which targets survived only because, unlike the first victim, they received warning notes with the anthrax delivery.

The Democrats in Congress have shown exactly zero interest in determining just what is happening in the anthrax mailer investigation. I can't remember the last time I even heard of the anthrax mailer in the MSM.

  • Democrats spin on Bush's war spending requests.

It's pathetic how and what the Democrats do. It must be the DLC consultants, the Republican branch of the Democratic party, who have driven it into the ground and has only been successful in two elections, Bill Clinton's. The Democrats could explain what Bush is really doing and THAT IS HOLDING THE TROOPS IN IRAQ AND THEIR FAMILIES HOSTAGE FOR THE PURPOSE OF EXTORTING MONEY FROM CONGRESS which is for Bush's cronies for graft and corruption. Money for Iraq is ordered by the ton with 3,300 tons of $100 bills missing. This has contributed to the devaluation of the dollar and higher gas prices because the oil producers must increase their price just to get the same amount of purchasing power because the dollar is worthless. At least this would coherently explain the dynamics of what is going on. Besides the US government has a policy of not paying for hostages. The Dem act like this and then ask me for money, now that's chutzpah.
