The leading conservative journal is caught in a far more serious scandal than the TNR/Beauchamp controversy that it helped fuel.

  • This is just a silly pissing match

Two ground pounders trading "war stories..."

I find Beauchamp's tales to be less than fantastic. They don't measure up.

    "There I was..."

  • To read Arthur Schopenhauer can't hurt. What a excellent pessimist. In some ironic manner he gives hope.

Credit where credit is do, and incrementally, more and more, hopefully...can be observed...Let's hope.

Michelle Maulkin. She said, "We are all fallible. We all make mistakes. They were XXL ones." Yes.

Paul Daniel Ash. Schopenhauer is great if only to 'get a handle' on where each individual ought to be ( allegory ) ( wisdom maxums ) at the various chronological age of one's life.

  • @Chris Neil

    Personally, patheticdeludedidiot001 works for me.

    That is just too fantastical!

But I would definitely believe that some jarhead who works for NRO runs around Lebanon playing capture the Hezzie flag.

  • par ...

    GG:

Completely fabricated accusations designed to fuel their war agenda and other political interests are not new for the world of right-wing punditry. It is par for the course ...

This is the sad truth; these people are interested only in propaganda, not reporting. Even in opinion pieces, one needs to begin with the truth and facts to support any conclusions made.

The question is why do they do it even knowing they will eventually be caught in the act? The reason is that they poison the well and cause people to think, "they all do it" when only the propagandists do it. So, if they are not discovered they get away with a dirty lie --- and if caught, it helps by poisoning the well. A win/win as they say.

How to stop it? There are war mongering neo-cons in both parties; it may be too late to correct our course, but your coverage helps. Keep it up.

  • NR REPORTERS FABRICATIONS

The right wing writers, with its claws embedded within the MSM, write with impunity and say anything they want because they know their MSM colleagues will not question or refute what they write. They make things up, misconstrue, exaggerate anything they want to deflect attention from their propaganda of falsehoods and outright lies. Then they rant and rave another deflection technique to change the topic. This is all in the pretend christians frame work of their"I'm not responsible" false doctrine. This is what makes their misbehavior institutional, institutional mental and emotional illnesses which is able to sway the 7 second attention span of the gullible American to who let others do they're their thinking for them without question. Laziness. This is a country which has elevated cowardice to hero status.

  • Is everything the American "right" says suspect? Yes.

Given the sea of lies that the "Global War on Terror" floats upon- that have been peddled eagerly- while surely knowing or suspecting their falsehood- by the reich wing pundit world- I have to wonder, as a person who grew inclined toward the "right" and publications such as "National Review" if everything they write about is similiarly suspect and simply shilling for parties unseen as their war "reporting" is obviously.

Is it just the warfare state and their MIC masters that they lie for? Or do they lie about everything? I really have to wonder.

  • just my opinion

I don't know many of the details of the Beauchamp episode because, true or false, I didn't feel the anecdotes added anything to my knowledge base.

I will say that using the spouse/lover of a journalist at your publication as an anonymous source is an obvious conflict of interest and shows a serious lack of journalistic ethics. That Foer saw this relationship as a credibility booster in his eyes was a serious mistake and reflects poorly on his ability to be a credible editor.

  • From Glenn's favorite conservative blog....

Shoddy Reporting - It's Not Just for the Left

    @Jebbie
If you go to the last story on the link I gave you, you'll notice that the Minisrty of Information guy who originally denied Hussein's existence, is next claimed to have found Hussein in the AP story, is now saying Hussein is someone else altogether. And all during this, nobody has SEEN this person.
I'd hate to think AP is lying but....

    Meanwhile Glenn contends...
"They repeatedly lied about Bilal Hussein's photography, falsely claiming that he photographed executions of hostages in Iraq and other insurgent actions."

Well he actually did photograph a hostage being killed, just not the Italian guy. Maybe this should have been phrased differently.

This is false. It's what you get for reading right-wing blogs and believing what you read.

Bilal Hussein did NOT take the Haifa Street photos. Even LGF was forced to retract that claim -

    (See update)

They lied about his photographing an execution of an Italian hostage AND they lied about his photographing that murder as well.

  • As I said keep on keepn on!

I just recently stumbled on to Salon & Glenn, so I don't know how long Glen has been putting up this battle for correct fact journalism. But I'm hooked. I've been so frustrated with the popular media and the democrats with out a backbone for what is right, I could scream! Let me not leave out the corrupt administration and insane neocons! Reading on how you (Glenn), persist and pursue these inaccuracies helps alleviate some of my frustrations. Keep it up, make them scrim!!!

  • Assasination by ACID WEAPON!

When in Beirut, for God's sake BE CAREFUL! People are killing each other left and right there using mysterious ACID WEAPONS:

  • Thomas Smith, still reporting, still relying on the same sources

If I’m not mistaken, Thomas Smith is still not only writing for NRO (but the way I read it) he’s not completely dismissing as false his claims about the 4-5000 Hezbollah fighters, or the reliability of the source for that story.

Am I misreading what he’s saying?

    Here’s Smith:

“In retrospect, however, this is a case where I should have caveated the reporting by saying that I only witnessed a fraction of what happened (from a moving car), with broader details of what I saw ultimately told to me by what I considered then — and still consider to be — reliable sources within the Cedar Revolution movement, as well as insiders within the Lebanese national security apparatus.

Since then, I have not been able to independently verify that “thousands” of armed Hezbollah fighters deployed to the Christian areas of Beirut in late September, but my sources continue to insist that it happened."

So, NRO still employs someone who reports and depends upon sources that gave him information that all other reporters who were in that vicinity at the time find laughable.

Isn’t this why there is no comparable left-wing effort to get Smith fired?

Because, really, NRO lost any credibility they might have had a long time ago, so why bother getting someone fired for making stuff up? They’ll just hire someone new to do the same thing.

In short, the “left” and real journalists don’t expect real reporting from NRO in the first place. Lies are what we expect. But those lies (and their hypocrisy) still need to be pointed out once in a while.

After all, we wouldn’t want someone to actually start taking what NRO reports seriously.
