The leading conservative journal is caught in a far more serious scandal than the TNR/Beauchamp controversy that it helped fuel.

  • re:FASCINATING comment.

Well, it is "fascinating" inasmuch as it parses and makes sense.

  • in thrall to the right wing master-narrative of history?

How did educated, intelligent people in this country end up in thrall to the right wing master-narrative of history?

I can't speak for WT but I suspect his problem with this phrasing is the degree to which it ignores the educated, intelligent people who AREN"T in thrall to our RW masters.

    The idea is an oversimplification.

  • Pamela Troy

As you will doubtless discover, many of us don't share your assessment. I think negative/thoughtless responses to Bebop may be the first clue to a new commenter. And/or, a commenter that's not been following these threads for very long. There are actually several characters on Glenn's threads. There's a Sheriff, a School Board President, a Resident Poet, a Director of Security, several resident Philosophers, and array of Diplomats, among others... which have nothing to do with their screen names or their actual occupations. If you choose to stick around, eventually, you will figure out who all of them are. And, FASCINATING may have been in reference to your comment not Bebop's. I urge you to apply your assumptions with great caution.

  • Paul Daniel Ash?

Messages devoid of meaning (and therefore, devoid of wit) are boring.

  • Step it up, folks

We all need to work harder to entertain Pamela Troy. Can anybody juggle?

  • re: And, FASCINATING may have been in reference to your comment not Bebop's.

    I assumed it was.

  • Then don't read them

Complaining about them, on the other hand pegs you as either an outsider or a grouch.

    The scroll-bar is your friend!

  • @ Paul Dirks re Iran/Kurtz

    >blockquote>washingtonpost.com: "Iran halted its nuclear weapons development program in the fall of 2003 under international pressure but is continuing to enrich uranium..." (AP, Dec. 3)

Howard Kurtz: I would just make a note about the attribution in the lead: "senior intelligence officials said Monday." They may well be right. But some intelligence officials were obviously flat wrong about Saddam's WMD.

This is why so many intelligent people are bald.

Pamela Troy -- Some of the most complex wine is difficult to appreciate at first tasting, time and experience are necessary components. Some people will never like the wine, but that doesn't mean that it isn't delicious to those who have the palate.

  • Pamela...

Now you've gone and released bebop-o's posse (myself included). Posts may soon rain down, explaining why bebop-o's presence is so important, and why we could not do without him.

A single snapshot of one post--or even a few-- from bebop-o cannot do him justice. Reading many of his posts, though, over a period of time, can be very revealing. Or, if you wish, you could just click on the link that takes you to his archives... and while you skim over the ones that seem to you to be obvious nonsense, just be sure to pause over those that connect the present (Iraq) with the past (Vietnam) and that describe his current environment (almost Edenic). Those are the ones that keep us grounded, reminding us why we're all here in the first place.

I don't think WT's statements on how intelligent people ended up at the thrall of rt-wing propaganda machine is as incoherent as you want to make it-if that's how I interpret the meaning of what you say.

You and others consider yourselves intellignet too-so it's offensive to you to be lumped in this category. I understand that. He's right though, in the fact that it is the GOP who is control of the WH and the past elections-so he could have said also "how could people be so stupid"? Would that make you feel better about not being categorized as intelligent in the same context as anyone who voted for GW?

I'm just trying to understand the offense-although I think we're all on the same page that the news is definitely propagandized towards the Rt.-it does not mean intelligent people, perhaps even some GOP who are slowly beginning to wake up-realize.

Most of the country was "shocked" ie tricked into this war with Iraq-and are continually being told Iraq-911. Most are waking up to the fact it is untrue. No one should feel that they were stupid to believe such a lie-it's that all sense of critical thinking reverted to ancient simple-minded"fight-or-flight"logic-as was the Goebbals plan anyhow. What is important is that people eventually DO realize it-as I think they are.

if they don't-we as Americans will be subjected to the same Groundhog Day propaganda by the Right, forcing us all back into our proverbial holes and letting the GOP take care of everything. Somehow, I don't think the groundhog is gonna retreat to his hole much longer.

  • Shhhhhhhh....

Mr. Ask some one to Find a donkey, mule, or a pink pony.

Mr. Ash seems so good at whiffing a skunk aroma in the air, peepopo believes others too can tell a donkey fart? Pewee.

I do declare Pummels Pamela, bless the soul, and anonymous too can ride side saddle somewhere...

So Help them find a SUV and don't listen to any MSM. Shhhhhh....It's so dreary. Bewildered looseness. Stay steadfast. Lift those human wings and soar through the celestial spheres. bah. Don't bug them, okay? hummingbug.

I was gonna sign in/out as anonymous. I promised I'd never use that chicken (not in all cases, respect) coop oak board handle.

    > Complaining about them, on the other hand pegs you as either an outsider or a grouch.

Oh nooooooooo! PEGGED? An OUTSIDER? Horrors! You mean I'm not wunnathagang?

Seriously, my question was based not just on my innate grouchiness (to which I will cheerfully cop), but on genuine curiosity. Is this a bot of some sort that randomly generates nonsense as some bizarre contribution to the discussion? I mean, Hell for breakfast, except for Howard Kurtz, LGF, and the folks at Free Republic, we don't have enough meaningless blather online now, do we?
