Demand answers from Time magazine

The Time editors responsible for Joe Klein's "Shameful Journalism" arrogantly refuse to account for what they did.

The letters thread is now closed.

Blessings on your head, Glenn

Couldn't express my admiration and gratitude for your work in this, your reasoning better than dozens of previous posters.

I think your accomplishment here is staggering and hope you will never ever stop. You are performing a civic service akin, in my mind, to Gore's service regarding climate change. It's early, but your drumbeat is like the butterfly in the forest. Perhaps there will be a storm.

I will briefly echo what a previous poster touched on, though, that relates to your emotion. When you feel your blood pressure about to separate your skull plates, can you step back and do one more pass over your copy first to tone down whatever phrases seem to reveal a personal antipathy toward Klein?

(Feeling it's totally understandable. I just think when you're doing something so somber, it's better to carry on with sub-zero cold, rather than heat.)

Your fan,

Where is this coming from???

This issue was brought to light because GG focused on it and didn't let it die. It was, however, an uphill battle, one not many of us are willing to fight on so many other isssues that the press is falsely reporting.

You have to wonder, what else out there is blatant propaganda? The war in Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, the 'war on terror', the Iran nukes issue, the Pakistan crisis, the economy, the 2008 presidential elections...how can we believe anything any news magazine tells us anymore? I didn't even know who Joe Klein was before this issue- just like I don't know the thousands of other nameless, faceless editors out there. How can I trust their words when I don't know if they're all Joe Kleins or not?

Where is this coming from? Is this freedom of press? What is allowing our so-called "free media" to get away with this? What is the root cause of this burgeoning irresponsibility?

My email to Time

It seems impossible to me that Joe Klein simply misunderstood the legislation. It is far more likely that Mr. Klein is inclined to malign.

Perhaps you should make the attempt to hire real journalists. When you do-email me and I will renew my subscription.

If I wanted right wing spin I would not need to read, I'd simply watch Fax news.

Article Take Off time.com

Hi,

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1686813,00.html is not not accessible anymore.

Also, how can I contact TIME regarding this BS.

Thanks

No response from Stengel

Don't know if this thread's dead, but almost 24 hours after I sent Stengel an email criticizing him for the Klein disgrace and cancelling my subscription, I've received no response.

Has he stopped sending the robo-response?

Is he just not responding to those who cancel subscriptions?

"Does anyone at Time have any integrity at all?"

Um, "no?"

I've banned Time, Newsweek, USN&WR, and all similar propaganda rags along with all of the Celebrity Fixation slicks from my waiting room on the grounds that they are as harmful as cigarettes to the health of the nation. Despite the fact that nearly all of these toxic products are sent to me free of charge, they are routed directly to the trash.

Anyone who expects anything resembling service to its readers (or even truth) from a major media outlet has not been paying attention.

Bravo for trying to hold their feet to the fire, but I just do not think credibility is particularly high on their list of priorities, and I don't think they are going to be very worried about being confronted with proof of that deeply established fact.

The only real solution to the interminable lies that come out of these propaganda factories is to stop consuming what they are producing.

nostalgia

Pull out your DVD of All The President's Men and watch it again. Or maybe not, it's just so painful to see how far we've fallen.

Cancel Subscriptions & Boycott Advertisers

Hit 'em in the pocket. I recently canceled my Newsweek subscription via some voice mail system. I emailed their customer service department directly to let them know that I the reason for my cancellation was because they gave voice to a propagandist, traiter and criminal. I won't pay another penny for any of those magazines.

It is crap like Time is pulling

that enables 300 million strong to be dunned and manipulated by a few thousand exceptionally twisted power mongers.

I am really beginning to think it is in our genes to put up with this BALD FACED LYING garbage year in and year out.

Hi Folks

Just felt like saying "hi" to y'all. Been a busy day for me so I haven't posted anything since one or two short ones this morning.

Klien and co are up the proverbial shit creek. Let's hope. I know that because I did manage to read a heck of lot of what has been posted today...including the comments! I did that while waiting on my pot of lima bean and basmati rice soup to be ready for consumption. It was good. It'll make for great left overs, too. My daughter called while I was fixing the soup. She thinks it's really neat that I cook such healthy food. She likes most everything I do, though. She's just nice to me like that.

Oh, and for the sake of irony:

"Keep up the good work." "Heh." ;o)

to the rest of bebop-o's posse

Good job!

I was thinking of that post, too, RMP. In fact, I quoted a bit of it earlier on, and noted, once more, how he keeps us all grounded. An attribute that I think is often undervalued in online communities where there is so much scintillating discussion of theories and such. A bit of salt is needed.

Pedinska, instead of blueberry whine, how about some blueberry whynot? Or whyknot, if you prefer even more bemusement.

And, Brian Hayward, you are a mensch.

Yes

Thanks, RMP.

A Fart in Church

It is with giddy delight that I envision the scenarios playing out at Time...

A montage of brief film clips.... The slammed down telephone receiver in Prissy's office (another Gone With the Wind quote, "I'se sahy 'bout mah Prissy...she's mahty wuthless..")

The only decent people, at the very bottom, striving to be civil, "Is there a way I can program it to just autoreply all?"

The bigwigs brusquely directing their underlings, with a dismissive wave, to just plug in the latest names to the standard non-apology apology.

Klien doing the same thing, with the usual condescension and disdain, but perhaps adding a bit more about how "busy" he is.

Busy!?! Doing what, pray tell? The mind boggles. Working on another anonymous novel about how Obama dismembered Girl Scouts? Or how Nancy Pelosi financed snuff films?

Has Time ever heard of a thing called probation? Why hasn't Klien been on the "double secret" version since 1992?

Keep up the good work, Glenn.

And bepop, et al... Don't be sailin' off in no boats.

Shooter needs us all.
