Joe Klein digs Time's hole deeper still

The still-uncorrected errors in the Time article are made far worse by Klein's ongoing deceit.

The letters thread is now closed.

I was thinking. I admit to think is often 'dangerous'...so it's said.

the pro-GOP war-buddies build a life in darkness, trying in vain at burying justice, and digging at the foundation of the truth. But people ought to know they can't ever topple truth.

I agree Joe, it is not easy to comprehend FISA or to sing the

abc's backwards.

Digging a grave?

Oh! Ah! So, put,

the left foot in first,

the right foot in next,

Dig a hole deeper and shake all about?

Telling the truth is what it's all about.

@ Jordan Orlando

Here's a simple, honest question:
Why are you defending Joe Klein? Why aren't you attacking him along with the rest of us?

Easy. Because like me, he can't decipher the ultimate consequences of the legislation in question. It's one thing to spin legislation as doing one thing, and quite something else to see what happens in practice. What a law "says" is beside the point, what it "does" is often different.

It just can't be the case that every single defensible grievance Greenwald articulates is so mired in self-contradiction and liberal hypocrisy that you can't sign your name to it without arguing the other direction.

The flaw in that statement is that I only address points I disagree with. Granted, that's quite a few. You also have to consider that Glenn's scope of issues is limited.

Klein got it wrong! Just admit it.

Sorry, that issue will remain open until courts rule on it. But I'm sure it won't pass, so all this is speculation.

We admit it when our side gets things wrong. We attack Democrats; we attack liberals; we attack each other. We're fundamentally conscientious, not fundamentally contentious. Can't you see the difference? Wouldn't you rather be a thinker than a cheerleader?

Right. You attack, attack, and attack, but you aren't contentious. LOL. I'll go my own way. If it doesn't suit you, feel free to skip my posts.

Target: truth

Glenn,

Your comments that this is not a case of obsessing about Joe Klein make this a very important situation. In pushing back against Klein while highlighting the lies and distortion in what he says and then taking it further to dissect the editorial supervision that allowed this malpractice into print, you are setting a template for action for those of us who are fed up with the pervasiveness of right wing talking points being regurgitated from erstwhile liberals.

The strategy is elegant and simple. Target the truth and don't ever give in. Calmly and devastatingly repeat the truth and point out the lies. Question the authority system that allows the lies and distortions to be published.

How this plays out for the next steps will shed light on whether significant progress can be made in exposing the corruption that has crept into the media. If a significant "correction" can be forced into the print edition, or if any other media exposure results from the documentation of Klein's lies, and especially if Pelosi or another significant political figure takes up the issue of Klein's lies, then the process of lifting the curtain behind which the right wing has been operating may well be entering a new phase. That this would occur as we enter the 2008 election cycle would be of utmost importance.

Keep at it, Glenn. Your patriotism is showing. Truth is definitely the dark horse candidate in this election cycle.

shooter

"Easy. Because like me, he can't decipher the ultimate consequences of the legislation in question."

Even if he can't, that has nothing to do with the errors in his original column. You are attempting to defend the indefensible. The strain is showing; you used "we" after a preposition somewhere back there, no your usual style.

Spare us the debate with Shooter

If one variable changed, Hillary Clinton as president, he'd be cheering Glenn on.

Pumlius Maximus @ 8:58.

OT, but...yikes-

"His silence on the topic is thunderous."

Orlando- I always think of sweet orange juice and enjoy Orlando.

Jebbie makes me think a great idea would be to sit in a Florida snowstorm, and drink a warm cup of Florida orange juice while waiting for good angry Glenn. I hope he tolerates me. Jebbie, we can puff on one of those rum-soaked crook-cigars. Do they still sell them?

While shooter242 washes the fried-egg dishes, the rest of readers who wish, can fly to Orlando and try to become less confused...

huh,

Orlando?

I do enjoy shooter for no other

reason than to read Jordan, Hey,

Orlando- gops are so dang sourer.

I'll turn it off. I get too gabby.

No more UT

Glenn,

I understand why you maintain Unclamined Territory, yet what you now do is completely the opposite. You have claimed the territory of truth, rule of law, civil liberties and authentic journalism. You are the Underdog Titan.

So you can keep the UT label only now we know it doesn’t mean what it did when you first claimed it. Now we know we are supporting an Underdog Titan who will take down the giants one thug at a time. If you with our help, take down enough thugs, then we can go after larger, thought-to-be-claimed territory and the thug hierarchy. A hierarchy that goes well beyond the Executive branch.

Many netroots giants like you are claiming new territory and showing us new horizons. Those who want to tackle too much too soon can get us into frenzies that are doomed to fizzle and leave us venting or quitting.

Your one stone chip at a time approach keeps us inspired and fired up. Keep chipping away and we’ll keep throwing the chips at the thugs you identify until our statue of liberty emerges from the deep hole that the thugs have tried to bury her in.

@Bebop

“I'll turn it off. I get too gabby.”

Fortunately, I know you well enough now to know you will never turn it off or get too gabby.

We so need your tough, touching stories about the Dexter Lacey’s of our world so that we are constantly reminded and encouraged to stand up for those who are the victims of the despots of despair who use fear, hate, lying and political and media dupes like Joe Lieberman and Joe Klein to try and bury the voices of liberty and justice.
