    What exactly are you for?

Is cutting and pasting others' comments the only thing?

That is the extent of your comments for as long as I've been on here.

I don't really understand the constant cutting and pasting-as to what your are truly trying to accomplish on this site.

Seems like much wasted energy spent, much pentup anger, much hostility, much disregard for anothers' opinion,..for a mind that is closed to wanting to know information that you don't already know and don't agree with. (although I think it's called learning).

I guess I would just like to know if you've ever asked yourself that question?

Perhaps life is better spent-trying to build positive relations-giving off negativity both outwardly and inwardly-is not a healthy thing. Buying into the politics of fear is not healthy either-and just becasue you may be afraid-does not mean the rest of us are.

    Please take this into consideration.

"Silence appears to be talking about specific battles with the Russians/Nazis-as he/she makes references to the book he/she has just read-but does not not elaborate on the specifics of the comment."

Yes, it was clear to me that he/she was referencing WWII Russians/Nazis in response to Guiliani's assertion as opposed yo your broader communism vs. fascism statement. But, I guess YMMV.

  • Re: Chris Dowd

I'm sure that in your mind, all the ills of this nation fall on the South. People in the north DIDN'T vote for Bush at all, and Giuliani WASN'T elected to be the mayor of New York. No, all that was imposed on them by all of us ignorant people who live down South. Yes, we are to dumb here to think for ourselves, we need such beacons of reasoned and thoughtul discourse as yourself to show us why. I am going to go out on a limb here, but I am willing to bet that you have never actually been out in "The South" and had a chance to met people from all of the walks of everyday life. I am from "The North"(Minnesota), and there just as many, if not more racists and idiots running around up north as there are here in Texas. You are not special because you are from the northern part of our country. In fact, I am willing to bet that you, like many of the people I have actually met while traveling around the Northeast, are an arrogant, smug, jackass with no more real insight into the problems facing our Republic than our friends on the Limbaugh side of the aisle. This guy Giuliani, he's your guy. See,you can be just as stupid as all of us yokels down in the Southland.

  • Who are we saving from what?!?

Who are we saving from what?!?</.blockquote>

    Us from Them.

  • All for nothing without Overlord.

And if you think that was just an excursion across the channel, just don't know what you are talking about. Had Overlord failed, that was all she wrote. It didn't fail and it had nothing to do with what you suggest, a weakened wehrmacht. That just wasn't the case. That gamble could have turned out quite different. Read some books. This is next century quarterbacking.

Silenced original point was that it was the Red Army that did the majority of the fighting - suffering and inflicting tremendous casualties as a result - which broke the back of the Nazi's war machine. Yes, the Anglo-US operations in North Africa and their later invasion of Europe helped, but even these were not sure things. Its equally questionable if the German military, battered as it was by 1944, couldn't have contained and withstood Allied assaults in both the east and west.

As for the Pacific, neither Silenced nor anyone else addressed that threatre (which was a different animal entirely).

And you tell that to the men who fought on the Western front, in North Africa, the Pacific and in the Med. In a WW, all theaters are key. That's why they call it a WW. Honestly, you people have to read some history because it's a safe bet none of us was there and even if we were, you don't understand a WW from your vantage point in a fox hole. The last Japanese holdout was discovered in 1997 after spending over 50 years in the Phillipine jungle. Don't tell me the fighting in the Pacific was a "different animal". You have no clue what you are talking about.

I've been studying it for a good 30 plus years, read every book (worth reading) I could get my hands on. Watching a few programs on the Hitler Channel just won't cut it.

  • @anonymous

You may want to get your irony checked before you get sarcastic...

  • Finito

And there is one more thing you just don't understand about the fighting on the EF. Stalingrad was the worst, but that was Russians defending their homeland from an invader. There is your "entirely different animal" Mr. Armchair General.

  • That's right ...

Overlord was just an excursion across the Channel. And the Germans greeted them with flowers. Then they stabbed us in the back.

Did you miss that in your readings, Anonymous?

  • 1980

1997 was proved to be a hoax. My bad. Details.

Give it rest, Baldie. I don't even think you understand half of what I'm saying. Too complicated for you.

  • @bethincary

The USSR got the worst of the German's assaults, as Anonymous incoherently points out. Sure, they were defending their nation, but they suffered more casualties, military and civilian, and fought across a much larger area (excluding the Pacific war).

So the point is not that the Western Allies' war effort was insignificant, but that the Western Theater was not the main theater. The Eastern Front was the fulcrum of the war. Let's say it was 2/3 of the war on Germany, vs 1/3 borne directly by the other Allies.

So the point is not that Communism saved the world, but that the US didn't save the world alone. There was an alliance of equal partners.

If any single country saved the world, it wasn't the US by any objective measure, but Russia. We ran a strong second.

  • Anonymous is as silly as ever

    1980? 1997?

What are you on about, man?

    Who needs a rest here?
