  • Never mind the damn "Democrat party" label!

I just don't understand why that is such a big deal. All that happens is everyone gets into an angry semantic rant. Who cares? It's not like they're saying "bad party" or "evil party." What's the difference? Why is it such a "slight"?

  • He's looking at the wrong thing

Berkowitz should be less concerned with who hates Bush and a lot more worried about how many people are going to be hating America and Americans by the time Bush is gone. As large as the first number is, I think the second will be a lot higher.

  • This is boring

Here's the test... have you ever written anything positive about Bush?

I'm going to have a drop of the old crathur. Or two. Shooter, you write everything positive you can think of about Bush so when I come back later totally fluthered I can amuse myself by reading what you wrote.

#1: It is bad English, and bad English pisses me off.

#2: It's origins were born of a deliberate attempt to make the Democratic party sound harsher, associated with a rat, etc.

#3: It has since become an intentional (in many cases) attempt to slight Democrats. A bit like someone continually calling you a nickname you don't like. I don't know about you, but when someone shows disrespect, I call them on it. Particularly when the display of disrespect makes them sound like an idiot anyway.

Not that Pace was being deliberate. Probably just ignorant. Maybe I was too harsh. Ah well.

  • correction

    *Its* origins

  • further correction

It was a slur used by Joe McCarthy. And yes, we do have some people with McCarthy Derangement Syndrome in this country, me, for instance.

  • Anonymust and youthful indiscretions...

Generosity of spirit... that is what's called for.

It would be the liberal way.

The rest of your post made me grin so hard I got a cheek cramp.

  • OT - Did anybody else try to call Harry Reid today?

I got a message about a phone campaign from someone in the DFA in California, they are trying to levy a phone campaign to ask Senator Harry Reid to remove Dianne Feinstein from the Judiciary Committee, preferably in advance of the FISA vote tomorrow.

I tried to call, got forwarded, got sent to a voicemail box, which was full. Did anybody else try to call?

OBTW while on the subject, I finally got a message back from the California Secretary of State about recalling Ms. Feinstein. The truth is halfway between what I was hoping and the totally not possible version some posted on another thread the other day.

The removal of U.S. Representatives or U.S. Senators is governed by the United States Constitution, Article 1, Section 5 (2), which states "Each House may determine the rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two-thirds, expel a member."

So looks like if we Californians want her out of there, we will need the help of 2/3 of the other states to do it.

  • Hitler Derangement Syndrome

I also can't find anything positive to say about Hitler. I guess that makes me a sufferer of Hitler Derangement Syndrome. As a result, everything bad I say about Hitler must be viewed in that light - as coming from a crazy, crackpot who is deranged by her hatred of all things Hitler. Thus, it's likely all untrue.

Right? I mean, that's the point of the BDS rhetoric, right? To question the credibility of critics?

Just because someone can't think of anything positive to say about someone doesn't mean that the person isn't putting forth credible and truthful criticism. A person may adore W, but the 24% have to at least acknowledge the fact that it doesn't require a mental deficiency to not love him.

  • Greenwald has to be biased and as opinionated as he claims his critics are

I alomost got sick to my stomach as I read Mr. Greenwald's comment about the WSJ article. He is no better than he claims his critics to be. People who live in glass houses should not throw stones. He definitely sees the world through rose tinted glasses from the left.

  • The ultimate in self-indulgent "Treppenwitte."

Ahhh, I love that word "Treppenwitte." It's like so many great German words which capture entire sentiments using just a few words. "The wisdom of the staircase" is the best translation I suppose... that horrible feeling you get when you realize, after leaving the scene of a bad conversation, that you could have said much more, and wish you had the courage at the time to say it.

That's how this pithy Op/Ed strikes me. It's as if the author has been absolutely seething since 2004 at some perceived public humiliation he suffered during a dinner party. It's taken him three years of Treppenwitte to finally formulate his speckle-flecked response. I can't see how any rational person could read this piece and come up with any other motivation for its purpose. Why now? What insults him so much, the fact that he's "wronger" now than he was then?

Joe Scarborough and Tucker Carlson both spent too much time chewing over "teh awesome" in this piece today. It's illuminating, isn't it?

  • Worst. Ever.

Not only is George W. Bush the worst person who ever lived (sorry, folks, for those of you would invoke Hitler, I have higher standards for Americans), I'm inspired to GIVE MONEY TO HILLARY because of all these right-wing fulminations.

Oh, and by the way, I'm mostly inspired to do that as a Democrat — but mark you, I am also inspired to do it as a woman. And since I am not necessarly representative as a woman voter, I would caution all you anti-Hillary assholes to take note.

You may have awakened a sleeping giant. And you will pay for it.

  • 4 pages and 2 hours behind in comments, but, but.....

Liberal hatred, however, is distinguished by the pride right wing pundits have taken in their hatred, openly endorsing it as a virtue and enthusiastically proclaiming that their hatred is not only a rational response to the left...

Okay, with my fix, the above statement becomes a rather 'mild' description of Ann Coulter.

but a mark of good moral hygiene.

Here's where my analogy falls apart. 'Ann Coulter' and 'hygiene' in the same paragraph just doesn't work for me.....

Besides leaving you enlightened, it'll leave you with the sad realization that Mr Greenwald isn't fit to shine Mr. Berkowitz's shoes.

    -- virtue001

If you are an example of 'enlightened', then I think most here will take a pass. I don't think you were paying attention. Mr. Greenwald actually spat on Berkowitz's shoes (or, at the very least, scuffed a significant pile of dirt onto them), then walked away. The only thing shining here was the truth.
