Lundeen Doctrine
The problem with "taking a small crappy country and throwing it against the wall" is that in the process of asserting ourselves, thousands of innocent civilians are going to be killed in the process.
That is an unacceptable way for any nation to show its importance. Better that we should forge strong diplomatic relationships and show our abilities through stewardship, commerce and resources- assisting third world nations and peacefully strengthening our existing alliances.
We as a nation have apparently lost our ability for empathy when speakers, pundits and politicians can so casually throw around the idea of punitive military action against a non-agressive country. Not to mention our unbelievable "debate" about torture. What if the shoe were on the other foot? What if the EU thought that we American's needed to be "thrown against the wall" and taught a lesson?
The fact that Jonah Goldberg can so gleefully and unabashedly cream himself over such a revolting idea as the one put forth by Lundeen turns my stomach and makes me wonder if Goldberg has a shred of humanity left in him.
