Just to wet your appetite a little more
Another excerpt from the Halperin testimony:
With all due respect to the drafters of Section 701 of the proposed legislation
(who continue to be anonymous), it can only be described as Alice in
Wonderland. It says that the language in FISA, which defines “electronic
surveillance,” means not what it clearly says, but what the current bill says
that it says. Later, in two places the reported bill says that electronic
surveillance has the meaning from FISA and that the change in the definition
should be ignored Moreover, no reason to write the bill this way is presented in
the Committee Report or elsewhere that I am aware of, or by the
administration. The intended purpose can be accomplished by much more
explicit language as I will discuss.

another interesting facet
another interesting facet is how RARELY the wapo publishes an oped by a democrat...
...& then when they do, *this* is what they come up with?!?!?!?!

What was the point of Rockefellers's OpEd?
Whom does he expect to convince? Is this the Beltway attempting to convince the Beltway, with all of America treated as idiotic spectators? This mirrors the Saruman-Gandalf dialog in the Lord of the Rings; who will be our Gandalf and tell Saruman to buzz off?

What Rockefeller means
When Rockefeller says that assistance from industry would come to a screeching halt, he explicitly means illegal assistance.

Jay Rockefeller channels Dick Cheney's fear-mongering to urge telecom amnesty
My fellow Americans, this is just another piece of your freedoms being chipped away. The older I get and the wiser I get I dont know if I should just put my head in the sand, (like most in this country have,) or put signs in my yard to try and wake people up to what is going on in this counrty and the world for that matter. Read Mayan Code. Folks are so busy fueling this Federal Reserve Board backed economy they dont have time to think about anything else. Google, video, Freedom to Fasism
I agree with Glenn about 9/11. Google, video, Loose Change.
How they like to use it for this and that. How they like to use it to scare the public feeding their pocket books. Thats it, keep them scared and working and pay them just enough to almost get by. Feed them credit cards like they are candy. Americans eat that stuff up. Buy now and pay later. I am here to tell you we are all going to pay when the people behind the Fed pull the plug on our money. And the Chinese want their loans paid. China owes over half our debt right now. Soon we will own nothing.
Cashless society looming? Wonder what I am talking about? Watch Freedom to Fasism and you well learn more about our country then you will have wanted to know. You might even get a little mad and change the ways you buy and how you view the folks that are suppose to be serving us instead of us serving them. 16th Amendment...
We have everything controlled in this counrty and it is done right under our nose. Notice how the string pullers have a commercial on TV that shows everyone useing a card to pay for everything and then someone uses cash and everything stops. They are disensitizing you for when they make the switch to a cashless society, it will go over much smoother and with less of a fight on the hill. Not that the people on the hill really want to keep it cash. They will get plenty of digits.
If this ever happens people, you will possibly be putting yourself and your family in danger of being cut off from your money, for any number of reasons that they will come up with. Its time to WAKE UP AMERICA we are about to lose out country to a bunch of people we are suppose to trust, that already have thier second home in another counrty all set up and waiting for them.
Think they dont????
May God have mercy on this counrty and the souls that got lost on the way down.

Justice isn't blind...
GG said...
...because Rockefeller and his friends in the administraiton (sic) have ensured that it all has stayed completely secret -- no plaintiff, as the Sixth Circuit has ruled, has "standing" to proceed in NSA lawsuits against the Government.
emphasis mine
No one has "standing." That is the kicker. The courts are no better. They are just members of the ruling elite also. This is a power/social class issue just like everything else in America. Our ruling class doesn't want democracy. Nothing could be more apparent. Even a representative republic is too much if it means they have to actually represent the people. The courts and "the law" are there for crowd control, nothing more. They are about maintaining order -- not about truth, justice or democracy. The law only applies to the little guy and every time it even looks like it might infringe on the big money ruling class it is "adjusted."
The law will never serve (let alone save) "the people" because the law makers and overseers are convinced it shouldn't. It's all a sham. It is a system of control, not a system of justice. Justice isn't blind... it's "the people" who are blind.

Rockefeller posted this op-ed because he is a democrat and therefore has more credibility.
More credibility than a republican at present. But there is a sense of desperation in the op-ed as Rockefeller attempts to earn his campaign contributions with such lame an inexcusable arguments. The most telling reason to disbelieve his arguments which you do not emphasize are the players involved.
Seriously, would anyone believe or accept a single thing that Cheney proposes? Or Fred Hyatt for that matter. Rockefeller is committing political suicide by siding with these two creatures. It's exactly why they are using him in addition to his position on the committee because the other two are not even credible in this argument...They needed a dem who has opposed them in the past to lend some credibility but rather than make their arguments more appealing and justified it makes the messenger less appealing and believable.
If Cheney and Hyatt are for it then you know it's bad and nothing Rockefeller can say or do will make it better.
Now we see clearly just what Rockefeller stands for and how little integrity he has.
If telecoms are granted immunity from breaking the law then we know that justice is for sale in America.
