  • @ Baldie

As SomeNYGuy explained to me earlier, (thanks SomeNYGuy, too early for the coffee to have kicked in), that's probably Sugarman going off his rocker.

No, that's Anonymousugarman back to stir up trouble and woe by any means necessary. You know, the guy who thinks Jews are so oppressed and threatened that they (we) ought to kill everybody else first, but he can't figure out why his neighbors shun him and his own family is embarrassed by him.

    "Glen Greenwald is Jewish, btw."

    No shit?

  • @ modesto

Gas could go to $4-5 or more overnight.

    Typo there. Fixed it:

"Gas could go up $4-5 or more overnight."

    No charge. ;-)

    Cheers,

  • Egypt

And meanwhile...the US is quietly acknowledging that Egypt will soon have nukes! Sookay though.

But it's also the political version of projection, the attempt to cover over one's deficiencies and negative characteristics by attributing them to the intended victims: it's the Bushites who are the vicious fascists bent on world domination. They have said so. The Iranians very simply lack the capability and have no such imperial intentions. Quite unlike the Bushites, who have both and would really prefer it if you didn't notice.

Pubs have been getting away with this projection tactic with libruls and Democrats for years. Somehow the Democrats possess not only their own bad characteristics, but all the Republicans' bad chacteristics as well. Somehow it's not the neocons who are the radical right-wingers - it's those "leftists". Right-wing radicals really say these things. I kid you not.

Somehow it's the Democrats who are the 'fiscally irresponsible' ones, when it's the Republicans, and not the Democrats, who always run up the National Debt. Pubs don't run budget surpluses, but Dems do.

Thank you, that's excellently put. The "Republicans lower taxes" canard has got me so exasperated at this point I invariably lose my head whenever I hear it and harangue the poor schmuck at length until my social-life servos come back online.

It takes a lot of talking to convince yourself that the guys who want to put brown people in camps are the good guys and that the people who want to stop them are the nazis.

Regardless of how future elections go, I sure hope my neighbors come around to remembering what words mean. It's like someone dug a ditch through our shared vocabulary.

  • Gee Glen, don't be such a 'Wingnuts-are-abusing-the-Hitler-analogy' Nazi

Just awful. And I loved writing it. So to make up for it may I remind us all of the irony that

Prescott Bush was a big fan and supporter of Adolph Hitler.

And by the way Glenn, you are doing a fantastic job.

    Keep it up.

  • @prunes > @walter_map

"Republicans lower taxes", that may be true. But what is also true is that Republicans also raise expenses: health care, gas prices which raises everything else.

Sorry, didn't mean to digress from All-Hitler-all-the-time discussion.

I hadn't heard that Egypt will have the bomb. Can't say it's an entirely bad idea though. I would also like to see Saudi Arabia and Syria get the bomb, just to keep you know who in line.

  • no you di'int...

would also like to see Saudi Arabia and Syria get the bomb, just to keep you know who in line

    You asked for it, buddy:

First we got the bomb, and that was good,

'Cause we love peace and motherhood.

Then Russia got the bomb, but that's okay,

'Cause the balance of power's maintained that way.

    Who's next?

France got the bomb, but don't you grieve,

'Cause they're on our side (I believe).

China got the bomb, but have no fears,

They can't wipe us out for at least five years.

    Who's next?

    Then Indonesia claimed that they

Were gonna get one any day.

South Africa wants two, that's right:

One for the black and one for the white.

    Who's next?

    Egypt's gonna get one too,

Just to use on you know who.

    So Israel's getting tense.

    Wants one in self defense.

"The Lord's our shepherd," says the psalm,

But just in case, we better get a bomb.

    Who's next?

    Luxembourg is next to go,

    And (who knows?) maybe Monaco.

We'll try to stay serene and calm

    When Alabama gets the bomb.

    Who's next?

  • Arne...

HaHaHa... great minds really do think alike! I had no idea about your post from 2005.

  • From Hitler to Hitler

Five years ago the message from the WH was that Saddam was the new Hitler and if we invaded Iraq, everything would be fine. Once that "misson was accomplished" the obession turned to the death of his sons, Uday and Qusay. Now everything would really be fine.

Once Saddam was captured, tried and executed, everything would be even more than fine, it would be hunk-dory.

After Saddam was hanged, there was a void. How can bombast survive without a scapegoat? Hamas filled the bill until after the disasterous Israeli bombing of lebanon, backfired into a major disaster for all.

Now Ahmadinejad is the evil one. Now nothing will be right until, Iran is invaded and there is "regime change."

Bush is like an alcoholic doing one "geographic" after another, except that rather than moving from one place to another in belief that it's the location that's the problem, Bush invades one country after another and and emonizes the leaders, in order to justify his addiction to war.

Lets hope the Congress does an intervention.

  • Speaking of Nazi references...

    Glenn,

I'm curious to know if and how the Anti-Defamation League story from a few weeks back developed.

I think Norm might need a citation!

  • OMG THE IRANIANS ARE COMING!!! THE IRANIANS ARE COMING!!!

"We're the most powerful nation on earth with the largest economy and the best military, and we're made to act the fool by a few thousand cave dwellers who still put out their video on VHS.

And that's because over the last seven years, because of the incompetence that goes by the name George Bush, we've become the most insecure, paranoid superpower ever. We don't think we can get anything right anymore. We can't take care of our own citizens after a hurricane, or plan for our wars, or maintain our infrastructure, and our celebrity rehab facilities obviously aren't working at all."

I'll put up Bill Maher against Normon Podhoretz anyday.
