Um.... The Rowdy Boys are aware, are they not, that CanWest Mediaworks is in Winnipeg? And that by and large, Canadians, even rightwing Canadians, aren't awfully interested in the antics of self-important nitwits of Malkin et cie's ilk?
Shorter Boylan to E&P: I've been told to stop trying to intimidate Glenn Greenwald.
This may be neither here nor there, but Glenn, you and your readers may be interested to know that CanWest Mediaworks, the company targeted by Hugh Hewitt (et al?) is (a) Canadian; and (b) if anything, slanted towards the right in terms of the editorial views espoused by its some of its media holdings in Canada (although I invite other Canadian readers to comment on this perspective).
For example, one of its flagship holdings is The National Post, a Canadian newspaper, which perhaps became familiar to some American readers when it carried a piece that - apparently incorrectly - reported Iran was forcing it's Jewish population to wear badges.
As Media Matters commented when its ownership of The New Republic became public, there have been numerous complaints that the company "actively censors its employees who stray from the company's conservative, pro-war, pro-Israel blueprint."
http://mediamatters.org/columns/200703010014 (this page also contains a list of incidents involving various CWM companies that are suggestive of strong editorial control)
As the Media Matters piece noted at the time, it will be interesting to see how CanWest responds to any pressure received from the American right.
I'll risk seeming to merely suck up by encouraging Glenn to pursue this story and whatever else he wants to pursue in his blog.
Last night, after I switched off the PC, it occurred to me that Glenn attracts a number of back-seat drivers who either cavil about Glenn's choice of topic (including extent of pursuit of topic), or outright berate him for how he chooses to use his forum.
I prefer to leave the driving to Glenn, who manifestly seems to know what he's about. For instance, I don't think Glenn needs to be warned that he might be being set up, or that he's running headfirst into a trap, or a stone wall that will not permit this situation to be clearly resolved, much less resolved to our satisfaction. (I'm rooting for the e-mails to be unequivocally attributable to Boylan, and Boylan's generally unprofessional conduct scrutinized to Boylan's detriment.)
The wingnut blogosphere may "counterattack" with their usual scurrilous mendacity, but Glenn is not unfamiliar with this phenomenon, and as far as I can tell, is always circumspect and meticulous in his research and presentation. In conclusion, I don't see any reason to second-guess Glenn's choice of topic, and dispute that this is somehow wrong or irresponsible because he's somehow making it "too personal" or an "obsession" instead of turning to more productive discussions.
Let the man drive!
Glenn, don't stop until you get some clarification. It's probably too much to ask that you get an honest answer. This is the "rightwing wacko's" operating procedure...stonewall and get their minions on the R. blogs to try and decimate you with all their animus. This is what they do with the Dems, who cave almost instantly, and then apologize. That's what Boylan may think he can get you to do
The stronger you stand , the crazier they get, until either you give up or they do. DON'T STOP!!!! We have your back.
I love it.
You can read my "other letters" and decide if I'm a troll on this site. But the whole idea of "trolls" sucks anyway. I thought the purpose of blogs was to go against the hated Conventional Wisdom? Try that out sometime, and see what happens. I guess it's like Pete Townsend wrote: "Meet the new CW, same as the old CW."
As for "Take on the big boys" not being a "Glenn-Greenwaldy" enough comment, good argument. Nailed my ass. Ouch.
OK, so Glenn has written as extensively about more serious stuff. Good for him, and consider my hat eaten.
That doesn't address the main point, though. Boylan is a nut-case and a hypocrite, OK? No argument. But he's a nobody. NO-BODY.
Looks like Republitards have decided to move away from stalking 12-year-old boys and are now trying to harass a grownup blogger.
If readers think GG is blogging about uninteresting (to them) topics, they are free to read other blogs; it's not like there is any shortage of them out there, quite the opposite.
If enough people vote with their browsers, Salon.com and Glenn will notice this and adjust, either by blogging about 'things that really matter' or by finding someone more relevant to blog in his place.
Since plenty of people are still reading Glenn, it follows that many of us find the Boylan affair interesting.
So, Egypt Steve and any other backseat drivers out there, your opinions have been noted. You may cease your nagging now.
This Boylan story is as riveting as it is convoluted, and like a metallic-covered trash novel of more than usual steaminess, impossible to set aside.
You are quite lucky, Glenn, to have something like this literally drop in your lap, and your tenacity is clearly paying off, richly, with the subsequent attention from E&P, along with the fine contributions of IT-educated commenters.
I'll be racing back to the computer for another doubtlessly farfetched development later.
Keep it up.... It's clearly having an impact.
He disagrees with Glenn, and he's willing to argue the point. Why does this make him a troll? Glenn acknowledges his right to expound his opinion, even as he reserves his own right to respond. Just because I disagree with Steve's logic doesn't mean I think he should go away. He doesn't have to be a troll or a Republican shill to have a differing opinion.
Yes, this is Glenn's blog and he can write about anything he likes. Since this is an open comment forum, we can write about how we agree or disagree, and why. Steve is simply utilizing this forum as it was intended. You don't have to level personal attacks on him because he's swimming against the stream.
