Abject stupidity defined

The right-wing blogosphere never ceases to surpass its prior humiliations, even when you're convinced it can't.

The letters thread is now closed.

What else?

"what else besides abject stupidity can explain this?"

How about blatant dishonesty?

Monday, October 29, 2007 11:02 AM

Or perhaps...

...even more abject illiteracy? (to go along with their innumeracy...)

Monday, October 29, 2007 11:02 AM

Desperation?

Overactive imaginations desperate to find any other conspiracy to latch onto to avoid facing the fact that Lord Bush and High Executioner Dick lied to them about EVERYTHING?

Naw, stupid is as stupid does...

Monday, October 29, 2007 11:06 AM

Calling them stupid gives undue credit to their desire for the truth

Clearly, the point was to muddy the issue by claiming that you are putting up a biased view...let a 1000 inaccurate memes bloom.

If Dread could comprehend enough of your post to know that he could write you and ask for the text, he also could comprehend enough that you had posted the full text already.

I believe this is called pounding the table.

Monday, October 29, 2007 11:06 AM

Ellipses too ....

You even used ellipses among your excerpts to show that these were merely excerpts. That's what clued me in to go back and click on the link to the full text.

set up

I couldn't help in reading this topic yesterday wonder to myself, if you GG, were being set-up. And given the response I have to say, I think so.

Monday, October 29, 2007 11:07 AM

It's a combination of the blatant lie

and the legalism, not mere abject stupidity. They create their own reality, remember, and in their reality, you did not link to the unedited email, you suppressed it by publishing excerpts after the word "here" instead of the full text.

Monday, October 29, 2007 11:07 AM

What else but stupidity?

Blatant dishonesty, based on their desperation to discredit anyone who dares point out their screw-ups.

It must suck to be a Republican these days.

Monday, October 29, 2007 11:09 AM

When you don't have the facts...

...you argue the law, and when you don't have either on your side, attack your opponent. When you don't have any way to attack, mischaracterize what he said. The post you highlight is so blatantly desperate that it truly speaks for itself. Only a desperate few (oh wait, that's who we're talking about) will cling to those "arguments" as any refutation of what your post revealed.

Monday, October 29, 2007 11:09 AM

Perhaps they figure that the more time

you are forced to spend fighting their falsehoods, the less time you have to spend covering what they and their brethren in the administration are actually up to? For real?

Monday, October 29, 2007 11:10 AM

[Somebody] did a study...

I believe it had to do with the ability to recognize improper grammar. Fundamentally, people who are abject nitwits are incapable of recognizing that they're abject nitwits. Why? Because they're abject nitwits, that's why! Apparently one of the defining characteristics of glaring stupidity is an inability to recognize same...

The concept is widely applicable once you recognize it.

Glenn, your fantastic. We need you. Ignore these trolls.

Seriously. Don't let these slugs take up any more of your time

today. No need to even respond to them. They are morons.

I'm curious if they have funders that keep them afloat or if they

are just true, natural in habitat morons.

The service you, Glenn, perform is exemplary and I sure

as hell couldn't do it. Thank you.

It's easy to lie

to stupid and/or lazy people. Very easy.

These "writers" know that no one who "reads" them will check out any facts on their own. They simply want to be spoon-fed propaganda that won't do anything to challenge their worldview.

I certainly don't want you (and us) to stop fighting the battle. But, I don't think you (or us) will ever win.

simple diversion

There is list of right wing tactics to divert attention from a discussion of the real issues, including frat-boy tricks like this. It it simply another cheap conjuring trick of misdirection. Keep to your real topic!

Monday, October 29, 2007 11:12 AM

Of course it's stupidity

How else could they maintain their seriously skewed view of the world in spite of massive, verifiable, often scientific evidence to the contrary. Willful, arrogant, stubborn ignorance is what they celebrate, what they support, what they worship, WHO THEY ARE. As our good friend Forrest Gump so wisely quipped, "Stupid is as stupid does." The real tragedy is that Gump's quip so often describes our nation these days.

The Passion of the Pundit

When something is done again and again it is assumed that it comes from the deliberate judgment of reason. On these grounds custom has the force of law, and abolishes a law, and is the interpreter of laws.

THOMAS AQUINAS (1225-1274), Summa Theologiae.

The authoritarian SOP is to insert more passion when facts are not cooperating. The mildly disinterested sheeple are still vulnerable to this din of crude conformity, however the herds of mildly disinterested are thinning- thanks in large part to your work Glenn.

Thank you.

Authors and audience

Many a blog post has been written on the general question of "stupid or lying?". There is of course a difference between the people who create this sort of confusion and the folks who lap it up. Of course, having just typed that, I took a moment to peruse the rest of "The Dread Pundit's" offerings.

Definitely stupid!

Bluto?

Seriously?

Glenn, I don't think you even need any spinach for this one.

Self-Delusion

I've wondered this too.

The final conclusion I've come to is the right wing blogosphere, the 25%ers and their ilk, and the overpaid think tankers are simply perpetuating an illusion. This is their loud, obnoxious version of clapping and hoping Tinkerbell lives.

I think they know, to an extent what they're doing - but since everyone else is doing it, they do it, and maybe this once they may be right, or this may not be right but they're VERY SURE they're right about everything else, or . . .

What it comes down to is these people are no different than a group of adolescents sitting around spinning stories about their schoolmates in some tiny, little clique, perpetuating fantastic lies - and trying to top each other.

I am truly hopeful that we will see a return to progressive politics in the years to come. Rest assured these people will fight that every step of the way, no matter what, just to maintain their delusions.
