A bizarre, unsolicited e-mail from Gen. Petraeus' spokesman

An e-mail I received this morning from Col. Steven Boylan is heavy on petty insults but extremely light on the issues that actually matter.

The letters thread is now closed.

Politics+Religion+Military=Republican Wetdreams

Oh, happy happy, joy joy: the military have joined the Republicans and, judging by General Peter Pace's bleatings, the Religious Right, as well. An amalgam of politics plus religion plus military is just what we need in America.

Be prepared for the "Star-Spangled Banner" being replaced by "Onward, Christian Soldiers" as the national anthem.

Betrayus has a Boil-on his butt

So, Betrayus has a boil-on his butt through which he emits nonsensical gusts for the amusement of American citizens. But the fully transparent, goose-stepping Boil-on became hilarious only after he was so devastatingly outed as a liar and a coward. Why is it that every pathetic worm who slimes his way up the command chain thinks he can yank ours? No wonder the Pentagoons seek the refuge of Faux News. Engaging their spokesclowns in any public forum is like shooting fish in a thimble.

Caught

While we all knew the military has for years been political since Korea and Vietnam, Glenn has teased it out of them in public again.

I think the American people need their OWN army - and it is not the one we have now. Even the state-based 'national' guard has become a tool of the federal government. This actually happened under Reagan, during the attempt to overthrow the Sandinistas.

We need people's militias!

I may have missed this

Maybe this was mentioned already, but I wanted to post before I got through the whole exchange (I'm a little behind):

From the alleged "fake email" --

"You are not a journalist nor do you have any journalistic ethical standards as we found out from the last time I engaged with you."

And from his actual "real" response later --

"Whether I agree with what the email says or not is not an issue I wish to discuss with you, as I decided after our last exchange that I would not take the time or efforts to engage with you."

The choice of phrasing is oddly similar.

Oh Help Us!

Glenn, we see the problem. We are not surprised by anything the military, or other facets of government, does or does not do under this Administration. Given the high numbers of Americans who remain convinced that Iraq is a mess, wasn't worth it, and we need to leave, it seems the military's efforts to "win friends and influence others" through favored bloggers and right wing and swinging reporters is a dismal failure - just like Iraq.

While we can't put it as succinctly as you do, the fact that the military has allowed itself to be compromised by Bush and other GOP right-wingers means we are obviously more threatened by facist Republican right-wingism than we are to Islamic facism.

Grammar police court martial...

I was unable to read beyond the first sentence of the quoted email, in which a high ranking military officer exhibited unforgivably bad sentence structure. Was anything else of importance said?
