Mr. Greenwald notes Col. Boylan's seeming not to care that he's allegedly been hacked. One aspect I'd like to see Mr. G. discuss, that he hasn't gone over as of yet, is this: whether or not the colonel personally cares, isn't he, in his sensitive professional position, OBLIGED to care, on behalf of, oh, national security or something?
I don't recall addressing you. You don't like my posts? Don't read 'em.
I know a bit about email too -- I've written an email server -- and pboothe's analysis is correct: at minimum, the same program using the same Exchange account was used to send both emails.
So either he sent the original one or someone used his account with his permission (implied by knowing his Exchange password). The latter would be a howling breach of security; assuming that the army has the most minimal IT security procedures, I'd say it's 95% certain that he wrote all the emails attributed to him.
Since he obviously thinks very little of you, Glenn, I think he's just jerking your chain for giggles. Let's write him off as an asshole who happens to have way more power than an asshole ever should.
Garry Owen isn't a dope, and he isn't a liar. I don't agree with him about much, but what I do agree with him about is that you live the life you're given to live the best way you know how. On that basis alone, he has a right to be here -- or anywhere, for that matter.
The bad stuff that Glenn writes about didn't begin yesterday. I know you know that, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded that if things should go a little differently, figuring it out won't necessarily spare you from having to experience it first-hand. G.O. does that extremely well, and for me, that's enough to make his contribution valuable.
When is the Left going to get some balls and start demanding that people like Col. Boylan be court marshalled and then hung. They had done more damage to this country than Benedict Arnold. They are not just a disgrace, they are bringing this country to its own destruction.
I tease. One night on my 21st birthday. hush. O, Pass the bowl twenty-one times round and round. okay. one bowl 2 bowls, and 7 bowls joined in...
Gads, GO, > now we are too old to agree fifty some times a bowl to start, and that's just to begin?
WOW.
Ya's ruin my reputation, Owen. GO on O.P. and take Glenn. I knew a shake-and-bake instant Sarge lawyer who I think is Glenn.
He'd do a bowl in the helicopter on a First Cav hot L.Z. assault when we were assigned to extract First Cav's air-mobile A- company who strolled into a underground NVA bunker complex.
It wasn't no fun dragging dead GI's and 60 pound ruck sacks for three days, then. Send Col Ole Boylan. He's still a boy like Gen Betrayers. Give 'um all a bottle of obesity instead of stolen Black Market Gin. The First Cav warrant officer lit up too. Wow.
You could spend Thanksgiving with the troops. Look, the Commander and Chimp did it. You wouldn't want to let that drag queen in a flight suit show you up! Get some well-tailored BDUs. You'd look really great with the name and organization tags: GREENWALD and SALON MAGAZINE on 'em. Show that around the cocktail parties in New York when you get back. Bragging rights! Oh yes!
Anderson Cooper has been over there. Now come on Glenn, I mean really ... Anderson Cooper?!! Wow. If he made it out of there in one piece, you got no worries!
I realize I'm coming very late to this party, but I don't think anyone has mentioned an interesting email discussion between Boylan and Kevin Drum of Political Animal. There is a very long discussion of it on Rachel Maddow's web site here: http://www.airamerica.com/maddow/node/2799#comment-27394
In this case, it appears that Drum received an email from Boylan only a few hours after putting up a blog post titled "GENERAL PETRAEUS'S PR BLITZKRIEG". Drum's September archive with both the original post and his email exchange with Boylan is here: http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/monthly/2007_09.php
The discussion on Maddow's site (by Hart Williams) has a wonderful tidbit:
Given his evident unfamiliarity with the English language, it seems apparent why Col. Boylan lets his deputies make the statements. Frankly, the quality of the Colonel's prose is shameful for a P.R. officer.
Williams also presents an interesting argument for Boylan's actions in selective leaking in the Beauchamp case and attacking Drum (and by my extension, now Greenwald) is very likely authorized by at least Petraeus if not also Bush.
As Boylan says, this is interesting.
Glenn should request Kevin Drum to forward the emails for header analysis and mention this incident when he reports his own interactions with Boylan to those authorities recommended by RMP.
OT to Kitt (and Arne): I had the pleasure earlier this week of attending a live performance by Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas and Edgar Meyer. Keep an eye out if their tour comes your way.
Owen would cover your back.
Owen may say: forget everything you ever learned. The government has lied. Now, if we wish to survive, let's look out for each other.
Owen is one of my favorite stinkers. He's not had a batch of bud or a bath in three months.
That's one thing I like. He's a good backup for Glenn if the Petraeus's or Boylan try to frag a lawyer. Glenn. Ya's best on the OP forefront at Salon.
Owen, You Ruined My Eve again.
I was not supposed to pull Guard Duty.
Those Phuoc Vinh CA's never got off the pad without the WO's and the door gunners gettin' a buzz on. Steadies the nerves. Play some Hendrix so loud Charlie knows all the words to Purple Haze.
Tammy Duckworth drivin' that Blackhawk never had it as good, but she's still my hero. Tammy for VA Secretary. She's got the sexiest steel gams I ever saw.
