Dodd's emphasis on constitutional and rule of law issues

The presidential candidate's decision to place a "hold" on any telecom amnesty bill is bold and consistent with his campaign's focus on the Constitution.

It must be hard to be a True Believer right about now...

Naomi Wolf wrote an article:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/naomi-wolf/finally-action-ron-pau_b_69042.html

On Monday, Rep. Ron Paul, the outsider Republican presidential candidate who has long upheld these values and who was an early voice warning of the grave danger to all of us of these abuses, introduced the AFA's legislative package into Congress. (The mainstream press has an irrational habit of disparaging outsider candidates -- as if corrupt money and machine endorsements equal seriousness of purpose -- even though the Founders hoped that the system they established would lead citizens, ideally those unembedded in the establishment, to offer their service to the nation.) It is the American Freedom Agenda Act of 2007, and you should read it in its entirety: just as accounts of the recent abuses send chills down your spine, this beautifully argued document feels historic and has the ring of great power to correct great injustice.

You can read it in its entirety here:

Hey Zeus.

If a autumn moon says a bushel

crop of beets, rutabaga, carrots,

and cabbage is sweet- okay. I agree.

Whenever you are ready 'Hey Zeus'....are/will there be--a real loud rattle, panic, or are you,

Nature,

gonna visit,

with subdued tones?

I hope you remember the pleasant importunates... don't some other's [?] also , oh. ah, yea,

burst-forth in innocent reverie?

O, a innocent snack is okay?

Damn 'gadget' snoopers...'um snoop.

Heh...

What an evil Republican monster that Dr. Paul is...

-- Chris Sinnard

Hardly, although you'd have to be a fool, (or have an agenda and googling your name we can see what yours is), to think he was a saint or some kind of savior. He's a politician like all the rest and he would make an awful president. Most of his ideas are so kooky that you have to get into tin foil hattery to even consider them. Kucinich is a bit of an eccentric as well but his ideas are more mainstream than Paul's. Neither will ever see the inside of the WH. In Paul's case that's probably a good thing. As far as Naomi Wolf is concerned... not the sharpest tool in the shed.

American Freedom Agenda. Yeah, it's nice to see clowns like Richard Viguerie, who was instrumental in putting put Bush in the WH and getting us all here, realize that he was hoist by his own petard, George Bush. It's that "Bush was never really a conservative" dodge that Glenn has written about. Too little, too late, if you ask me, but thanks for playing.

Chris Dodd has my vote

And, Glenn, thanks for your big part in this. Remembering your blog fundraiser from a few weeks ago, I hope a little cold hard blog-cash is an appropriate way to express my gratitude.

Michael Mukasey...

Today's newspaper report on the hearing is 99% related to the torture issue. The headline is "Torture of suspects rejected", subbed "AG nominee says its unlawful, un-American". Please note that the article ends with "... while acknowledging that Guantanamo Bay detention center had given the United States "a black eye," he said he didn't believe the detainees had been mistreated. He also refrained from calling for its immediate closure.

BTW, no mentioning of FISA, spying, etc.

Thursday, October 18, 2007 09:03 PM

O/T Another headline...

"Blackwater Iraq deal unlikely to be renewed"

Of course it is up to Condoleezza Rice (according to the article). Once you read the article, it somehow does not give the impression that the contract will not be renewed...

Thomas C and Pastafarians Unite....

Thomas C....

Your historical perspective is a refreshing tonic for the sickness all around us. I would only add that during Watergate, we still had (frightfully few) members of the media personally dedicated enough to their obligation as members of the fourth estate to expose gross violations of the oaths of office, despite unrelenting threats from the Nixonites. But today faceless corporations, utterly unmindful and contemptuous of this trust, are as easily tempted by carrots (deregulations) as their predecessors were defiant of sticks. Dick Cheney was taking notes.

Pasta...

Your letter is as eloquent as it is unprintable, given today's climate. A pity. But keep writing. I have found that, deep in the bowels of these outfits that reluctantly print a paper only because they can't print money, ther are brave souls that pass good letters around, and it not only engenders shame and sympathy, but sometimes has influence.
