  • You know...

You know, what we need is talk of another 'world war'...

World War III would save Bush's ass. This coupled with the article of Bush being 'calm at war' makes me wonder if his song would change if we the people took the keys to the door of his posh underground bunkers. He'd have no place to hide when the nukes started flying.

The very idea that Bush is 'calm' while the rest of the country falls straight into the toilet should be grounds for his impeachment in a 'slam dunk' 'cake walk' perfunctory exercise in American government.

I've never been more terrified at the direction this country is headed. It's a very dark and frightening place. And Bush is certain of it.

What nearly drives me crazy is that the 'democrat' leadership could be so cavalier in handling this delusional sociopath. That so many could actually stand behind this simpleton and support his insanity is just nothing short of profoundly catastrophic!

  • Take my civil rights--please!

But didn't anyone read about how AT&T's lawbreaking enabled the capture of a couple of pedophiles? Certain unpatriotic persons--we won't mention any names--may be failing to wet their pants about terrorists. But pedophiles? Come on! Not only are they scary--they're icky, too. If destroying my civil rights protects even one tiny, innocent child from these monsters, then take my civil rights--please!

  • "acting in good faith"?

I guess my question is can we prove that they were NOT acting in good faith? It seems like they were cooperating with something that they knew was illegal to have a better shot at securing gov't contracts. Profit, not patriotism, was their motivation. Look at Qwest--they didn't cooperate and they were denied contracts, correct? (Maybe my memory is off)

I'm no lawyer, but if we can prove that they were worried about losing out on contracts (internal memos?), would that help?

That is, of course, if the immunity deal doesn't go through...

  • And...

This is why you're The Man, Glenn. This one could be big for you buddy. Know that most here are pulling for you and working to make your arrival on the big stage known. Thanks.

  • Why did NSA begin phone/Internet surveillance prior to 9/11?

No one seems to have addressed the issue of why the NSA sought its sweeping surveillance powers prior to the 9/11 attacks. I find this puzzling. We know from the testimony of the Qwest CEO that the telecoms were approached by the NSA in February 2001. We know from Richard Clarke's insider account that the Bush administration was not focused on al-Qaeda or terrorism and that Clarke couldn't even get a high-level meeting on the subject. Is it possible that NSA approached the telecoms without the approval or involvement of Bush's inner circle? Doesn't seem unlikely. The NSA was focused on getting this kind of access due to the fiber optics revolution. From the late 1940s until the Church hearings in the 1970s, NSA got access to all cable traffic coming into and going out of the country through private and secret arrangements with the telecoms. When most communications began being transmitted by satellite, this arrangement was no longer needed because NSA could spy on these communications using its own eavesdropping satellites. But fiber optic communications were too difficult to tap into. What I'm wondering is if this was just an NSA institutional grab for power or did the Bushies see the potential political advantages of sweeping domestic surveillance. They clearly weren't focused on terrorism in February 2001.

  • NO ANMESTY, PERIOD!!!!!

Telecoms HAVE TO BE PUNISHED TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW for BEING WILFUL LAWBREAKERS WHO AIDED AND ABETTED THE CRIMINAL ACTIVITES of Bushland Uber Allies. No matter what SLICK BOUNDERS like John Boehner MAY RATIONALIZE, TRUE AMERICANS KNOW BULLSHIT WHEN IT IS BEING FOBBED OFF ON US, AND SHOULD TAKE THAT EXCREMENT AND SMEAR IN IN THE FACES OF Boehner, Bushland Uber Allies, and their CADRE of SHYSTERS TRYING TO PROTECT THEM AND THEMSELVES FROM RIGHTEOUS PROSECUTION AND PUNISHMENT FOR BREAKING THE RULE OF LAW OF THE LAND!!!!! Well Said, Mr. Glenn Greenwald, as usual!

  • Worst case paranoia -

perhaps, since soon after Jan 20, 2001 until now (and, of course, continuing until 2008), there has been/will be interception, mining and monitoring of telcalls/emails of political and corporate enemies AND friends - info to keep the former down and latter fat and happy...and his could all be done in the name of national security!!
