Oh please.
During the "debate" over whether to invade Iraq, the dominant argument was: Either (a) you want to go to war against Iraq or (b) you are pro-Saddam and in favor of rape rooms and the genocide of Kurds....
....It's the most simplistic form of a black/white mode of "reasoning" known, one that was rarely seen outside of a group of 8-year-olds until the Bush-following faction took over our political dialogue. -- GlennGreenwaldThis is absurd. That Iraq war was about whether one believed Saddam had WMDs, and would he use them against us if he did.
By the way did you see the part at the end on the cite regarding translation? The part where Ahmadinejad's own translators used "wiped away"? Then we have this statement which seems very descriptive...."Like it or not, the Zionist regime is heading toward annihilation," Ahmadinejad said at the opening of a conference in support of the Palestinians. "The Zionist regime is a rotten, dried tree that will be eliminated by one storm." http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8GVSUC0H&show_article=1
In any event, as demonstrated by Clinton and Company, strategic bombing isn't really war and acceptable to the left. Seems like a fair compromise doesn't it?

The ADL Is Now It's Own Worst Enemy
I realize you have to take things slowly, Glenn, and give the ADL every possible chance to do the right thing. But as Matt has reminded you, it's already way too late for that. By giving cover to ideological friends, and launching attacks on ideological foes such as MoveOn for imaginary slights (statements MoveOn neither made nor endorsed) ADL has made it very clear that they now approve of the use of Nazi comparisons, but only for purposes that they identify with.
If it were still around, the ADL of 40 years ago would go after the ADL of today with a vengeance for this sort of thing.

SusanM'sC, Pedinska, etc., I agree.
Iran's people are beautiful.
Humanity emerges from the matrix, the maternal womb, of the Great World. This world-- formed by Nature's 'hand' and it's the handiwork, a firmament, holy creatures.
For this reason alone: Get the GOP crazy killers out of our public eyesight view.
A human 'animal' a bad rot 'anima' must return to it's black rot state, quickly.
Get them back under the stinking rock place from where they all eventually go.

Pooter Steps In It Again
242:
Oh please.
During the "debate" over whether to invade Iraq, the dominant argument was: Either (a) you want to go to war against Iraq or (b) you are pro-Saddam and in favor of rape rooms and the genocide of Kurds....

This is absurd. That Iraq war was about whether one believed Saddam had WMDs, and would he use them against us if he did.
Which, of course, is why we kicked out the UN inspectors so we could invade.

Irony isn't the only thing that's dead.
It's the most simplistic form of a black/white mode of "reasoning" known, one that was rarely seen outside of a group of 8-year-olds until the Bush-following faction took over our political dialogue.
So, too, is critical reasoning and debate, as exemplified by tiberius (who should stick to pedastry) and shooter242 (who just plain needs a lobotomy).
Irony and reason and argument are dead. But the Divine Comedy goes on.

Irony really is dead...
"During the "debate" over whether to invade Iraq, the dominant argument was: Either (a) you want to go to war against Iraq or (b) you are pro-Saddam and in favor of rape rooms and the genocide of Kurds.
Now, the argument from the same crowd is: Either (a) you support a war against Iran or (b) you are pro-Ahmadinejad, want to see Israel destroyed, and favor the execution of homosexuals."
The irony is that many of the people who want war with Iran ALSO favor the execution of homosexuals!

Death of Irony Has Been Greatly Exaggerated
Here's the last line in the Perino quote from Mahablog:
Now, obviously, this has, again, a chilling effect on protestors, but we would ask that everyone show restraint and allow those who want to express themselves to be able to do so in Burma. [Emphasis added]
See? She telling Cindy Sheehan and Code Pink to go to Iraq. That's irony, baby.
It's sarcasm, too. But considering how hard her boss is working to inch us toward the Burmese model of democracy, it's irony as well.

Did you watch the Bushit defending the interrogation methods used by the US? Who is the real terrorist? Who started a war of aggression against an independent country based on lies a deceit? Iran sure did not. Who claimed that Iran supported Al Qaida? Did this Dumbya realize that Iran is Shia and AlQaida Sunni as are his friends the Saudies? Do you remember that the majority of the 9/11 bombing gang was Saudi? Get your facts straight or shut the hell up.

The ADL's Policy
Further review of the ADL's archive of press releases censuring allegedly inappropriate Nazi analogies and imagery reveals that the ADL is quick to condemn if the analogy is to global warming or other subjects far removed from malignant foreign regimes, but is tolerant of arguably the most pernicious abuse of Nazi analogies: the characterization of pathetically poor and impotent middle eastern regimes with the genocidal military and economic powerhouse of Europe in the 1930's.
While Foxman is quick to condemn Olbermann and others for satirical Nazi references (of which there is a long a distinguished tradition in this country), there is no record in the ADL's press release archive of ADL condemnations of the torrent of comments by leading rightwing politicians that absurdly inflated Iraq, and now inflate Iran, into Nazi Germany.
Which is more trivializing to the horrors of Nazism, satire that ridicules and attacks Nazism, or rhetoric, such as that routinely engaged in by neocons and assorted rightwingers, that risibly equates every perceived enemy of Israel with the Nazis?
The explanation for the ADL's willing blindness to these Nazi analogies is obvious: these most pernicious Nazi analogies serve the ADL's political agenda and are therefore exempt from censure.
Various commenters have defended the ADL's right to be political. This is, of course, another strawman argument insofar as no one has denied the ADL that right. But it is Foxman himself who has condemned the exploitation of Nazi analogies and images for political purposes. If the ADL Itself is selectively censuring based on political considerations, then it is no less guilty of politicizing the issue and trivializing the evils of Nazism.
