It's possible that Cpl. Kevin Groenhagen is under a lot of stress. (I'm serious). If he is or has been recently deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, he has the tunnel vision that comes from only getting one story: The Marine Corp story.
I understand and agree with your point. I virtually never publish emails like that which I receive, and I get a lot of them. For one, there is no way to know it's authentic. For another, all sorts of things might explain why someone would send an e-mail like that. Anyone who argues political issues in the public arena, as I do, has to expect that sort of thing. I'm not bothered by it at all.
I didn't post that in order to make a point about him. I posted it to make a point about the standard Congress espouses in its MoveOn condemnation.
Military service is an honorable profession. Most people in the military are, I have no doubt, basically honorable people. But as is true for any large organization, it has people in it who are liars, creeps, haters, corrupt, etc. The idea that one can never comment negatively on the "honor or integrity of a member of the U.S. Armed Forces" is absolutely absurd, and it's an embarrassment that both houses of Congress both just formally affirmed this "principle."
