Colorado Rep. Mark Udall (D) suddenly turned into a Democrat? Since when? This chameleon changes colors every 15 minutes. He is to his father, Mo Udall, what Chris Wallace is to his father Mike Wallace. In other words, the best part of either one of these under-archivers ran down their mother's legs.
But that being said, maybe if Udall does bring this measure forward, it will make Republicans have to eat their own vomit.
But as far as Limbaugh and O'Rielly and the rest, they thrive on this shit. It bolsters them and fattens their coffers.
I have to agree with Mona too. I'd rather see them revoke the condemnation of MoveOn, admit that it was a mistake, why it was a mistake and move on.
This won't trouble them because in their small minds condemnation of military leaders for being "too soft on terrorism" is consonant with their overall philosophy. The person who wrote that screed was following the time-honored goper tradition of trashing government and military officials in order to push ultraconservative themes. In this case, the Faux mouthpiece is decrying "the much-hated rules of engagement," which he claims hinder our troops by demanding lawful behavior on the battlefield. You can bet the right-wing noise machine will find his piece quite acceptable because they share his warped views. It was the administration itself that declared the Geneva Conventions "quaint," after all.
These people have been operating this way since the Cold War, at the very least. Rhetorical assaults on the patriotism and morals of anyone whom they deem to have taken actions that are "soft", "weak" or "liberal" on fill-in-the-blank (terrorism, communism, drugs, crime, etc.) are wingnut SOP. They aren't going to stop or modify this behavior anytime soon, not simply because it is now ingrained habit for them but also because it works. The media allows such attacks and amplifies them, reliably reinforcing the very ideas the rightists are putting forward. Rightwingers are never going to give up what has always been a winning strategy for them, but they will fight to the death to keep progressives from using it. As noted by others, IOKIYAR. Otherwise, not.

I hope I don't embarrass anyone, but me.
Ya man! Matty Mattel shootin' peas with red tails, trailing off into the night. Mud be its downfall. LSA bottles on helmet garters to ward off evil. Matty Mattel's toy popper with it's idiot-0-syncrisies made for small hands and smaller brains. Carry more peas for lots of shootin' fun. Disaster with a bakelite foregrip. Oh man!
my suspicion is that they are trying to recreate the fury seen when Calley et.al. were prosecuted by My Lai ... since they seem to be constantly recycling old "outrages" as in -- everything old is new again.
I found myself wondering exactly whose kid was in the slammer THIS time... since the actual convictions achieve after a slew of trials have been shockingly few (and many charges dismissed early on with NO trial) and sentences generally very light to actually shocking.
So, Fox is contending it's not the war crimes and atrocities which are the problem, but the higher up supervisors who they view as advancing their careers by not sweeping such things under the proverbial rug (and I guess compounding the insult to our troops by foisting the "burden" on the courts, which then wag fingers and slap wrists). Gosh, so many promising careers ruined!!!
Given the Petraeus "controversy," the timing is very odd -- gotta wonder if somebody has a book coming out or if there's some "anniversary" trip wire to be crossed for the "Calley was scapegoated" crowd.

"I used to be disgusted but now I try to be amused." But I can't find anything remotely funny about this situation.
I wonder how the 'baiters' can tell the difference between the 'helpful' militia members we're supposed to be working with and 'Al Quaeda in Iraq' members. Maybe the Al Quaeda folks wear matching armbands?
Don't forget that the reason MoveOn even needed to place an ad -- the substance of which was legitimate dissent and questioning of an opaque, corrupt regime -- was the systematic obselescence of its accountability to the citizenry by the sitting administration.
All of those avenues have been systematically blocked or sealed to form a gated, clubby community of stewards (the Republicult and its cronies) of presuming ownership against perceived political "enemies" -- those who have every right and duty to demand access, transparency and accountability.
They have disempowered all agents of oversight: congress, media and free access to unaltered official archives.
In denouncing MoveOn, the Republicult administration (ab)used government resources and crony media (under clubby corporate influence) to perpetuate thuggery on legitimate avenues of oversight.
People shouldn't have to pay for a newspaper ad to question a general being used as a political prop and who is catapulting false information about a needless war for which the people are footing the bill.
All of the shameful players in this ridiculous theater should be made to apply the same standard to Rush Limbaugh and Fox News.
The President himself should denounce both of the above as "disgusting" and media coverage based on demands of Republicans to denounce this Lack of Support for the Troops be at least twice what was rained on MoveOn.
The disgraceful comments of Limbaugh and Fox should be read into the Congressional Record to illustrate the reason for the censure. House and Senate should censure them and apologize to MoveOn for villifying legitimate dissent.
It's only a fair application of the apparent standard of this administration and their "opposition".
Taking the corrupt political tactics wielded by the war-hungry Right and applying those same tactics to them (rather than ineffectively protesting the unfairness of the tactics) is the only way to ensure they cease.-- Glenn Greenwald
Years ago, when I was involved in competitive sports, a wise coach taught me that the best strategy was to take an opponent's favorite tactics, master them and then use them against him/her. It always worked because your opponent is not expecting it and rarely trains to defend against their own "strengths".
Now, as then, it's a real pleasure to see a master at work. Your essay on this has been forwarded to every winger I know who whinged to me about the MoveOn ad.
