Fox News' attack on the honor and integrity of our war generals

Fox accuses the generals of "betraying" their own soldiers and putting their reputations and careers ahead of the lives of U.S. soldiers.

The letters thread is now closed.

Another dose of 200 proof hypocrisy

Of course, as Glenn well knows, not a single Republican will vote to condemn the Fox opinion channel for this travesty. The Republicans are to real outrage as Fox is to real news.

And the Beat Goes On...

Who'd a thunk, right, that these clowns would have painted themselves into a corner with their dopey 'dump on MoveOn' rhetoric? Duh! This episode reminds me of when Larry Flynt exposed Republican hypocrits back in the Clinton impeachment era. Was there ever any doubt that the closets were full of skeletons?

Fox "News" is in an alternate universe

It exists in the same system as the Bizarro World and possibly same dimension as Mr. Mxyzptlk.

That's the only plausible explanation.

Let's see.....

how do we minimize the damage O'deilly caused by dissing the troops?....hmmm

I know! Lets publish something that flagrantly disses the Generals. Surely the MoveOn attack dogs will fall off of our hero Bill to attack Rupert's minions and then we'll all escape!

Yea...that's the ticket!

Are the wheels coming off?

For me, the most interesting part of the excerpt Glenn posted was the disparaging reference to Rumsfeld and the statement that generals should be put on trial for following him.

I don't frequent right-wing websites, as I clearly don't have Glenn's intestinal fortitude. So my question is: is Rumsfeld now fair game on the right? If so, that's news to me. It also seems pretty dangerous for their movement, since he's one of the best examples of the neocon mindset (read: incompetence).

I realize that the neocons are the Stalinists of our age (just airbrush Trotsky/Rumsfeld out of that photo and the problem goes away), but this still seems like a significant development. After all, Bush picked Rumsfeld despite, or because of, the latter's antagonistic relationship with Bush I. This is all getting awfully close to home, it seems.

I'm sure the Democrats will be right on this!

I hear there are going to be some sternly-worded letters about this. The Republicans are really terrified of those letters!

Saturday, September 29, 2007 06:26 AM

To reiterate....

The problem with the MoveOn wasn't that they called a General a traitor. The problem is that only War Cheerleaders are allowed to do so. MoveOn stole a page from the foamer playbook and now their REALLY pissed.

Saturday, September 29, 2007 06:29 AM

But Glenn, you really just don't get it.

You see, the generals Fox was criticizing WERE traitors, because they didn't want their soldiers to kill indiscriminately -- and they didn't want their soldiers to torture A-rabs! Don't you know we're losing the war because of the "PC" restrictions put on the troops?

The distinction between Good Generals and Bad Generals should be obvious, even to you.

:)

The Double Tap Rule and Muddying the Role of the Combatant...

...one may not-after traversing an objective-return to wounded combatants to kill them.

...one may not booby trap ordinance or designate kill zones around ordinance in a AO (Area of Operation) where civilians are intermingled with lawful combatants.

One does not en vigor the enemy by these means as it provides the enemy a stronger moral means by which to continue fighting. A motivated enemy is simply more deadly.

This is Infantry 101 and basic common sense (and is supported by articles in the Geneva convention BTW).

Fox news in their bloodthirsty efforts have now designated two distinct groups within the military:

1) Those who would violate the double tap and muddy rule.

2) Those who follow time-tested battlefield techniques for defeating the enemy on both the tactical and psychological fronts.

Fox lauds the first group, but demonizes the second.

A question:

Should not Fox news be held as treasonous for supporting rogue elements within the military that enliven and support enemy?

Honor

First: Gen Petraeus was wrong to allow a political hack to hide behind his skirts.

His public appearances should have been limited to governmental functions, testifying before

Congress, etc. He, at least, bent the UCMJ by what he did, betraying the trust to the public.

Second: Congress may make no laws concerning free speech. I know that paraphrased thought is in there, somewhere in some government document. Congress was wrong to say anything about the MoveOn ad.

Three: Fox News is a flashy entertainment setting that loves making themselves" the news". Paying attention to Fox is like watching a temper throwing five year old in a public venue, who gets paid more the more spectators that watch.

@Kitt

“Who'd a thunk, right, that these clowns would have painted themselves into a corner”

I woulda thunk because these clowns speak with forked tongue all the time. The Dems in congress have become numb to the hypocrisy because of the sheer number and volume. It has plugged their ears and frozen their tongues.

It is time as Bebop said in Glenn’s last thread, in one of his other akas, to scream back. To hell with civility Obama and the rest of you. You can’t achieve unity when you are dealing with goons. You have to fight on their field. Just don’t lose your integrity by lying and cheating like they do. You will get the respect of the country and they won’t get mad that other legislation is being held up. They hate the war and want you to show your emotions and love of life and hatred of suffering and death.

Yell at the hypocrisy of the hate spewed by Fox and RWA radio that spits on the honor of all those broadcast pioneers when true journalism thrived and they served our nation so well. When you do that you might even revive the still hearts of so many of today’s M$M broadcast “stars” into once more pumping honest blood into their bodies and our nation’s so needed honest discourse.

Yell at them and how they are hurting our nation by their vicious partisan politics and forked tongues. Put them in their corner until they scream for mercy when they are dumped in high numbers in late 2008.

And our Dem presidential candidates need to find their screams. I don’t want you to seem nice and funny Hillary. I want to see your anger and disgust about what is happening to our nation. That would show your real integrity instead of playing the game of your advisers. I can tell when your husband shows how he really cares about humanity and he shows that by what he is doing after his presidency. I haven’t seen that you care although I think that you do.

All of you. Stop playing politics and play humanity!

Thanks Bebop-o and Glenn and his commentariat and other bloggers. You are the real heroes. You have stirred my blood and it is flowing strong. The blood of my military brothers and sisters and that of Iraqis and Afghanistanies has to flow strong in their bodies and stop flooding out onto the streets.
