Clarification

Oh really?

You can have opinions about the military without having served but you can not lead the military without having served. Nor can you send others to die without risking anything yourself in the cause.-- Denning

How does that square with Bill Clinton as Commander in Chief, and Hillary Clinton as aspiring Commander in Chief? Neither served.

I should have clarified what I meant by "leading" the military. By "leading", I meant developing the strategies and tactics to achieve an objective set by the commander-in-chief, e.g. Gen. petraeus, commander MNF-I.

No one is arguing that the presidency, a civilian post, should only go to veterans.

Slots Bennett is another one

Bennett is a strong supporter of the Iraq War and recently Slots Bennett described his son's and his son's teammates fascination with the movie 300 in these terms:

They're young men. This kind of thing touches them and moves them. They want something to live for and even, if they have to, to die for.

(There's no word yet on whether his son, a senior in high school, has decided to enlist in the military. )
