LOL. That has to be the worst "appeal to authority" ever. By the way look at how legitimizing unwed motherhood worked out. Bastards unite! Heh.
Dumping the first wife for a younger, richer wife? Hey, that's Republican "family values."
Shooter seems to be short-circuiting over these "values" issues: McCain is a Republican (must defend!), yet was a cad (must condemn!); Craig is a Republican (must defend!), yet homosexual (must condemn!), etc.
Cognitive dissonance is the price to be paid by today's Republicans.
"By the way look at how legitimizing unwed motherhood worked out."
We all know they should still be shunned, and forced to wear scarlet A's.
"The lady doth protest too much, methinks."
Knuckleheads! Did you sleep through English class and completely missed that line? Pay attention now, people, because it expresses a truth about human nature.
"I support family values" means "I'm a skank 'ho, and I don't care who I trample to get what I want."
"I condemn the gay lifestyle" means "I'm about to burst into flames in this goddamned closet."
And so on. Make a note of it.
I am a Born-Again Christian. And I sure will be glad when a candidate's morality is not a campaign issue.
Since the Republicans have co-opted a Republican Jesus our nation and our Lord have been diminished.
If politicians would spend half as much time trying to improve our nation as the do trying to pander we would all be better off.
Yes, the bible is indeed a source of great wisdom that is shamelessly cherry-picked by your bretheren in order to directly participate in behavior that Jesus specifically condemned. Google "mote" if you don't know what I'm talking about.
Just as people who rail about liberals "hating America" have no clue of what theree talking about (It's the Constitution, stupid), people who profess to love Jesus usually ignore his actual teachings, insisting on making a show of their piety in direct contradiction to his word.
Matt 6:5-6
The putzes in the media still think Dewey beat Truman.
When asked about his dating history during the nearly two decades between his two marriages, Fred Thompson replied, "I was single for a long time, and, yep, I chased a lot of women," he said. "And a lot of women chased me. And those that chased me tended to catch me."
He his, in that statement, bragging about his sexual conquests outside of marriage – in effect promoting promiscuity – saying it’s all right for a “manly man” to have a lot of sex outside of marriage.
At the same time, the GOP’s “family values” program is sending a completely different message, warning about the “harmful psychological and physical effects" of sex outside marriage.
Was Fred Thompson harmed by his promiscuity? And if not, why not? And how is his bragging consistent with now promoting the exact opposite of his own behavior?
Maybe these questions should be asked to Robert Rector, a senior research fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation, who helped draft the original legislation for Bush’s "chasity" programs: "The programs simply tell them the more sex they have outside of marriage, the less will be their prospects for human happiness."
Do we want an unhappy man for President?

Unwed motherhood (around 30% of all children) is strongly correlated with poverty and inability to marry. Do you think that's a good thing?
I don’t know which the Republicans fear more - gay men or powerful women. It seems that their sense of manliness is threatened by both.
Just a hypothetical - Suppose a highly qualified Democratic woman who had been divorced twice and married three times became a presidential candidate. I can’t even think of the names she would be subjected to by her Republican opponents. However, it doesn’t seem to matter that two of the Republican candidates, Giuliani and McCain have had multiple marriages.
The way I see it is this: In the Republican Manly Man Club, multiple marriages or adulterous affairs are acceptable because these men have proven their virility or manliness by having sex with a woman. However, in the Republican Manly Man Club, a homosexual liaison is not acceptable because, in their eyes, the man is a girlie man and not a real man and, therefore, must be ostracized from their club.
I don’t understand the psychology behind their thinking. However, it seems that they are threatened by anyone who detracts from their own self-righteous concept of manliness.
"Could Mrs. 242 please report to store security? Your retarded child Shooter was found in aisle ten licking the lead paint off George Bush action figures. Again. Please hurry, Mrs. 242. Little Shooter has pooped his pants. Again. And he's starting to play with it..."

You got any Bill Paxton in you, shooter dear? If so, we could cure the poverty problem by having all the unwed mothers marry you. (I'd be happy to bring the shotgun.)
Of course, it would leave you less time for golf. That'd definitely be a good thing.

When you say bastards, I assume you are excluding Jesus Christ:
"You will be with child and give birth to a son ...'How will this be,' Mary asked the angel, 'since I am a virgin?' The angel answered, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God" (Luke 1:34-35).
and this:
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. (Mat 1:19)
Then Joseph her husband, being a just [man], and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. (Mat 1:20)
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. (Mat 1:20)
These little exclamations of yours say so much about your values. But you don't see it, do you? Sort of like McCain, Giuliani and the others. You fit reality to your agenda. You know it's wrong, but you don't care.
