It's interesting to consider what the GOP might do if the electoral costs of its' moralism were reversed:

What if, for instance, Craig's replacement was going to be chosen by a Democrat governor & Vitters replacement was going to be chosen by a Republican? Would electoral advantage trump GOP homophobia?

I'd theorize, blithely, that if the party of their respective Governors were reversed, Vitter would still get a GOP free pass (he only pays to poop his Pampers for FEmale prostititutes, after all!) However, if Craig's replacement was going to be chosen by a Democrat governor, I believe we'd be hearing a helluva lot more about how this tireless, respected senator had DONE nothing remotely illegal or wrong. Nothing sexual. No conversation. Nothing illegal. Or Wrong. I can just imagine every right wing pundit howling at their audience, in faux-civil libertarian outrage about this fine, family man, a father & grandfather, LOSING HIS JOB FOR TAPPING HIS FOOT!?!

How his red-blooded testicularity is clearly affirmed by his manly, if misunderstood, Wide Stance when relieving himself & by his frequent votes against gay rights (would some turd- burglaring, pillow-biter vote against his own kind?). And, anyway, what was that hunky, blonde cop doing there, but acting like gorgeous, goofy, corn-fed man-candy-in-a-cubicle?!? While the senator is clearly 100% innocent, isn't the situation in which this misunderstanding occurred, something Democrats & their civil libertarian friends call entrapment? Where is the moral outrage!?! Where is...

Quite simply, Craig & Vitter are morally identical. They are two-faced, lying, adulterers who condemn precisely the behaviours in which they engage. However, the scatological stench of their indiscretions is fragrant compared to the reeking, moralising, number-crunching hypocrisy that wafts from their putrescent party.

Kay Griggs is a conspiracy theorist. She is a wingnut that popped up on the radar during the Clinton administration claiming that William Colby was another of the 100s of people murdered by the Clinton's. She is just slightly less well known than Cathy O'Brien:

I've met David Vitter, while I strongly disagree with his politics, he seems to be a genuinely nice guy.

Sen. Craig though came off as creepy even before this story broke. (I haven't met him but know people who had.)

Infidelity, bastard children, divorce, physical/mental abuse of spouses or children are all behaviors for which the actor bears responsibility. One chooses (however consciously or not) to cheat, beat or split. Homosexuality is not chosen. One does not bear responsibility for one’s sexual orientation. To equate dysfunctional heterosexuality directly with homosexuality is its own perversion.

Sexual orientation may not be chosen, but getting married and then cheating on your wife is chosen. Going to public bathrooms and soliciting strangers for sex is chosen. Basing your career on claimed moral standards, demanding that the law enforce those values and demonizing others for violating them, all while you yourself live in contradiction to those values, is also chosen.

The relevant conduct here by Craig is all behavior he chose.
