  • "critical"

    Glenn,

    You wrote:

Whatever it takes -- repeated blocking of nominees, filibustering, protracted hearings -- it is critical that it be done in order to restore integrity to the DOJ.

My question to you is: will it finally put you over the edge when it doesn't happen? How many more "That excuse is not going to work this time" statements will you make?

There are third party supporters who read you and then chide you because we need you. We need your ability and depth of thought on our side. As Nequals has said, the two party system is full of the enemies of the constitution. And that system is now stocking the Judicial Branch with the Constitution's enemies. When will it end? When you start voting third party. When rank-n-file Democrats (and rank-n-file Republicans) wake up to the fact that the people are not represented by our government. Your voice could and should be helping with that awakening. Unfortunately, as Robert said, for 3yrs and 50weeks you will feel like you are critical of everyone, including the Dems. And then for 2weeks you will forget in the name of the lesser of two evils. That is not right.

When will it be too much for you? Since you probably make a good living, maybe never.

    Peace,

    -Derek

  • The Snake Pit

There is something laughable about the notion that the Reid/Bush no recess appointments deal should even be considered; particularly considering the litany of "betrayals" put forward in your own article, Mr. G.

Something slimy is slithering around and molting at the base of our government. More of that will be slipping in as a recess appointment.

Their only weapons are camouflage and deadly fangs; there's no changing that. Snakes are snakes.

  • Ondelette

I got the same DSCC email. When I tried to unsubscribe in disgust here is what I got:

The requested URL could not be retrieved

I think I'll send them an email to tell them the requested funds could not be sent due to lack of performance.

  • Democrats are dumb

It's to bad you liberals can't understand english but I guess that's because they all want toi speak spanish like there illegal immigrant "friends. But I wasn't talking about Janet Reno who was the most crinimal and/or corruptt attorny general in the history of this great nation I was TALKING about Alberto Gonzalez who got trhown out of office by a bunch of democrat thigs who un lawfully charged him with being xcorrupot eventhough there isz "zero" proof he ever did anything wromg!!!

  • @independent

I also remember that Specter was the one who snuck that USA interim appointment thing into the patriot act late one night to begin with. Covered in Glory he ain't.

It's remarkable how cohesive the republicans have remained in Gonzales' defense, notwithstanding their occasional outbursts about him. He simply could not sink low enough for them to abandon him. In fact, on any topic, DOJ or elsewhere, the ranks have held. There appear to be no core values, no content, left in the party. In a way, they are a failed party in the same way that Afghanistan and Iraq are failed states. There is nothing left but an empty outline on a map, which must be defended.

Regardless of the above crap, September sure is shaping up to be an interesting month.

  • Wait, there's more

A couple pages back, RE Schumer, Jesse said:

IOW, as long as they (Dems) are confident the nominee will put the rule of law above political considerations, the Dems won't obstruct the confirmation. If they don't have that confidence, all bets are off and the fight's on. Isn't that all we can ask of them?

No, we can ask for concrete acts & preconditions as evidence of good faith. Enforcing contempt citations, appointing a special prosceutor, & completing several internal investigations suggest themselves as obvious choices

  • Cheer Today's Victory for Justice

First the cheers, then the planning.

So I want to say "Thank You" to Glenn, to Salon, and to the Democrats for getting this criminal to resign. That our President praises this guy tells us all we need to know. Can you recall that threesome of Presidential Freedom Medal winners, Tenet, Franks and Bremer?

Also, the "Fighting Eight" U.S. Attorneys have earned our respect for standing up to the President, the AG, and their friends operating the Republican Smear Machine. These are Men and Women of Honor. We will not forget them.

Now Glenn has called us to a worthy task. We can alert our representatives to the danger of allowing a Bush-tainted Attorney General to take office. Pick the most honest human being that you can find.

A blind-folded lady holding the scales of justice must be our credo.

I've been hearing this Third Party superiority line since as long as my memory is capable of memory retention. How many Third Party state senators or Representatives are there after all of these years of Third Party roll outs? Not many. How many Congress people or Senators are there now? Nearly zilch. And the Lieberman for Lieberman Party doesn't count.

Third Party folks go for the glory. The big banana. The Presidency. Where has that egocentric crap gotten us? Even Ralph Nader, a guy who should know better, since he's been involved and even successful in politics for decades, ran for the Big Cheesarino, President. What an Ass and fool he made of himself for doing that.

  • To those of you who have "never seen" Glenn's mockery and denunciations

of those who advocate a somewhat different path than his own, I would refer you back through... oh, why not this very thread.

    Let's start here:

(well, we would start here except that Salon -- once again -- is in non-function mode, and so... we... wait... )

    Here we go:

    Nequals1
Actually, what is needed is another revolution to oust the entire elected government on the federal level and to install elected representatives who will actually do the will of we, the people, and who will uphold, support and defend the Constitution from ALL ENEMIES - FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC.

So you're saying we should just ignore the whole AG issue, allow Bush to replace Gonzales with whomever he wants, since it doesn't matter?

What specifically are you doing to advance the Real Revolution?

This is called mockery; what Nequals1 wrote is not even remotely what Glenn says. But then, he's mocking the poster. Something no one noticed...

    How about this:

    rbsalonlo
    geez, Glenn

you now exactly how this will work out. Recess appointment of Chertoff. Democrats cry foul, "look it what GW has done this time, worst administration ever, 2008 blah blah blah" but don't do anything real.

What I "know" is that if the attitude of self-pitying, petulant defeatists prevail -- "we're all so doomed and powerless; it's all so hopeless; it's all stacked against us; there is nothing we can do" -- then that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

For all of you who adopt this mindset -- "oh, forget it, Bush will win - he always does - nothing to be done - I'm honestly curious: why do you bother to read and comment on political blogs at all? If you're destined to lose, if all is hopeless, if you're completely powerless to do anything - why do you even bother?

Again, more mockery, and more misrepresentation, but nobody saw it...

And that's just so far today. That few seem to see it is interesting to say the least...

Deconstructing his response to my own post will take some time which I don't have at the moment, but these examples may serve to illuminate some of the more befuddled. If you need more, please click on the link in any of Glenn's posts that says: "Read GlennGreenwald's other letters" and click and scroll around for a bit. And if you want some real fun, go back to Unclaimed Territory and peruse some of the comment threads... Good times!

"Never seen it" my ass. Grumble, growl...
