The Islamists are coming

A substantial portion of the right-wing movement actually believes that the Islamists are coming to take over America.

The letters thread is now closed.

Denning

"The vast majority of Muslim in America are either atheists, agnostics, or those who do not wish to practice Islam the way their mufti or mullah or Imam dictates back home." - Denning

Do you have any evidence to back up this claim? I have read the recent Pew Poll results which state that, in addition to the much publicized figure of 25% of Muslims in America being in support of suicide bombing, there is are approximately the same number of Muslims here in the States that cannot or will not condemn al Qaeda (20% refuse to answer while about 6% evince actual support.) Keep in mind, too, that this poll took down names and addresses in order to compensate the responders, so one can imagine that the "real" numbers may be slightly higher.

@ Karen M

Markos Moulitsas: "...it makes no sense to talk about left and right."

Translation: "Critism of radical right-wing extremism and corporatism is off-limits. Let's talk about how nasty and backwards Muslims are and why we have to brutalize them into submission."

Fascism has been around for centuries, and has always sought scapegoats, and those scapegoats have often, but not always, been the Jewish people. For even now, American fascism uses the Muslims in the same role as scapegoat historically reserved for the Jews, and once again for the purpose of having a fulcrum to leverage political power.

But neoconservatives have also been scapegoating other groups and individuals: Democrats, gays, blacks, Clinton, the Pope, the Dixie Chicks, etc., anybody who gets in their way.

The purpose of this type of persecution is always to create a fulcrum to leverage the fascist's own power, for hate is a great tool for motivating the people to destructive policies.

Remember this, and keep it with you, always.

Look at Holland

Has anyone other than me noticed that nowhere in the West does anyone want to move to a country that is majority Muslim? It is probably unfair to point out the fundimental truth, but hey, why not?

On the other hand there are several countries in Europe where the white women are basically infertle. The Muslims are more than happy to repopulate and take over. The hippies, femminists, and the socialists are more than willing to sell their countries out for a mess of pottage and a few cigarettes.

Ironically, these are the same people that will be running away screaming for help when they are no longer a majority in their own country.

GoldenBoy

This is what was claimed:

an attempt was made in Toronto to segregate muslims into Sharia seperate from Canadian law.

That simply did not happen. Not only is it misleading, it is outright false.

There was not attempt to "segregate muslims" and give them laws "seperate from Canadian law." The *voluntary* faith-based arbitrations are very much a part of Canadian law, not seperate from it, and the decisions made cannot contradict Canadian law. To claim that some Canadian laws are somehow seperate from others is inane. What was being proposed was an extension of existing Canadian law. The tribunals are not "seperate from Canadian law" any more than traffic codes are.

Nor does voluntary dispute resolution segregate anyone from anything.

The implication that crazed Muslims want their own legal system (whereas other "good" people do not) is false and the statement itself is false.

Again read your own links.

This is not a place for small dumb children.

But, Walter...

...that was just a snippet from the teaser for the program.

Hardly a fair test.

[The show is just starting...]

True.

That's My Little Libertarian!

. "A nation cannot hang together without common civic values, and if a significant contingent of an immigration influx is overtly hostile to said values,"

Mona

Ah, so Libertarians first have us determine what the "common civic values" should be, and of course this would have to be codified by the government for enforcement, and then examine immigrants to see who is "overtly hostile to said values"

I thought I had a correct understanding of Libertarian values.

Good for You

Personally I think no faith based courts should have the force of law behind them,

I don't think they did. They were voluntary, and limited to certain matters. Could they even fine people, let alone imprison?

golden boy

I'm curious about how you reached your conclusions about Islam? You've come to the same conclusions that the extremists have. The vast majority of practicing Muslims disagree with you. How is it then that you can consider Islam to be what you say it is when the only Muslims who agree with you are the extremists?

Monday, August 13, 2007 09:24 PM

@ Golden Boy

I have read the recent Pew Poll results which state that, in addition to the much publicized figure of 25% of Muslims in America being in support of suicide bombing, there is are approximately the same number of Muslims here in the States that cannot or will not condemn al Qaeda (20% refuse to answer while about 6% evince actual support.)

Citation please.

You've distorted some of the poll results and evidently misremembered the rest. The same poll results clearly indicate that American respondents were far more radical than Muslim respondents.

Wanna dance, neocon?

I invoke the hoke!

Do me a favor, please, and stop invoking me or agreeing with anything I say.

Mona

When the only real difference between you and the trolls is the politesse with which you express yourself, of course he will invoke what he (or she) considers supporting points.

Just saying "I'm a libertarian" doesn't make you one. Looking at what you say, you just pee your pants in a more polite way.

Tabulating and enforcing cultural values, or if you will "civic values", is Libertarian?

And the courage with which you propose to meet the threat is stunning!

I thought Libertarians were Republicans who smoke pot. Now I see that Libertarians are Republicans who go nuts and invoke state action, right down to the cultural values, when they see a Muslim.

That makes things easy- one less ism to keep track of. Just lump 'em in with the Repubs,

Monday, August 13, 2007 09:31 PM

I'm wrong again!

And I'm sorry Mona. You are not a bigot, and some of your best friends are Muslim.

Now it's real easy- Libertarianism is the political philosophy which combines the worst aspects of both liberalism and conservatism. Well, you got all the bases covered, anyway.
