The Islamists are coming

A substantial portion of the right-wing movement actually believes that the Islamists are coming to take over America.

The letters thread is now closed.

In the interest of accuracy

Holy Cow, you're righ!! Sure am glad no Christians have never killed anyone. (no Matthew Shepard, no clinic-bombings, no Oklahoma-city bombing...)

The people who killed Shephard were robbers, not people who were motivated by (or who claimed to be motivated by) Christianity; Timothy McVeigh explicitly rejected Christianity.

The only person ever killed by the bombing of an abortion clinic in the United States was Dr. Robert Sanderson. He was murdered by Eric Rudolph, an adherent of the Christian Identity movement, a descendent of the old British Israelite cult. I suppose you could say that Rudolph was at least nominally (if eccentrically) Christian, but they weren't dancing in the streets in Rome when he committed his crimes. Christian authorities, particularly Catholic authorities, have condemned violent interpretations of Christianity in public, consistent way that their Muslim counterparts have not, for the most part, imitated.

Is George bush a closet Islamofascist?

Bush is closely aligned with the Saudi Royal family, the guardians and sponsors of Wahbism, the most militant and fundamental brand of Islam. Moreover, bush and his family have close business ties to the Bin laden family. For someone who keeps warning us that Islamic radicalism threatens our own survival and therefore we must be in Iraq, Afghanistan and possibly attack additional Muslim country, Bush is very casual about the friends he keeps. Isn't it rather like an Israeli prime minister having business colleagues who are hamas and Hezbullah leaders?

@ GoldenToddler

Arne, you should have read the well-written article by Mona that immediately preceded yours. She says, "And I completely agree with Golden Boy that CNN pixilated those Danish Cartoons so one could not actually see them, that the NYT wouldn't publish them & etc, for one reason: FEAR...In that sense, Muslim terror inarguably has had a chilling effect on speech; ...

Maybe you should have read that part of my post where I indicated (hinted, suggested, etc.; maybe I should have known who I was talking with and just hit you with the Grand 2X4 Of Obviousness and Bluntness) that the N.Y. Times is under no obligation to publish what you want them to publish.

Maybe you should show where I denied that the N.Y. Times didn't publish these cartoons because they were afraid ... oh, yeah, that's right, you are limiting your dishonesty to just a few execrable examples per day and putting those words in my mouth came after the deadline....

The N.Y. Times publishes some stuff that I agree with, some that I disagree with, and doesn't publish some stuff I think should be covered, and some I think should be wisely omitted. Some have suggested that rather venal (or less than admirable) motives can be attributed to some of these decisions, and I agree. I think the N.Y. Times can be far to cautions at times (in keeping with her Grey Old Lady status), and other times jump the gun or be outright wrong. So does this constitute some terrible Islamofascist Danger To Our Freedoms? What do you suggest be done about this to advance freedom of the press? Mandate coverage?!?!?

As someone considerably wiser than you pointed out, you want those cartoons published, go buy your own freakin' paper, and do something about it.

And on a related note, you want to spew horsepuckey and insinuate false claims as to what others have said, you should go get your own blog too.

Cheers,

What's the Difference?

"Christian Boot Camp Officials Accused of Dragging Teen Behind Van

Saturday, August 11, 2007

BANQUETE, Texas — The director of a Christian boot camp and an employee were arrested Friday for allegedly dragging a 15-year-old girl behind a van after she fell behind the group during a morning run, authorities said.

Charles Eugene Flowers and Stephanie Bassitt of San Antonio-based Love Demonstrated Ministries, a 32-day boot camp, were arrested on aggravated assault charges for the alleged June 12 incident.

The two are accused of tying the girl to the van with a rope then dragging her, according to an arrest affidavit filed Wednesday by the Nueces County Sheriff's Department.

Both remained in Nueces County Jail late Friday on $100,000 bond each.

A call to Love Demonstrated Ministries was not immediately returned Friday. No listing was found for Bassitt. An answering machine at a listing for Flowers cut off during an attempt to leave a message Friday.

Flowers, the camp's director, allegedly ordered Bassitt to run alongside the girl after she fell behind, the affidavit said. When the girl stopped running, Bassitt allegedly yelled at her and pinned her to the ground while Flowers tied the rope to her, according to the affidavit.

The girl's mother gave investigators photos of her daughter's injuries that were taken at a hospital where the girl was treated and a sworn statement from a witness who claimed to see the girl being dragged on her stomach at least three times."

Meanwhile, we get to watch Republican Presidential candidates all pounding their dicks on the table trying to impress these same assholes with how tough they are...to get their votes.

@ Prunes

90% of the people telling me I should be scared of [Islam] are the same ones who have caused this country so many problems in recent years.

Recent years? No. They are (culturally) the same ones who said Mexicans were going to take our jobs if we let them in and Blacks were gonna rape our women if we free them.

There has always been a sector of our society who needs to dehumanize somebody at any given time. Maybe it's natural to humans everywhere, but to stand up against them is at the core of this social experiment we call the United States. I'm sure it's the same challange Lincoln referd to as " ... testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure."

@Moran re: Mein Kampf

Well, when some fanatic gets a hold of a powerful, industrial nation with a very effective military, and has taken away the ability of the people to oppose him, then I'll get worried.

Oh, wait a minute - Shrubby is almost there!
