    kitt

Well, someone else beat me to it, but the U.N. did endorse the no-fly zones when they told Saddam Hussein to comply with them.

    -- Hornet Driver

Is that right? Do you have the link or have you not learned how to use your computer?

  • Yes, Kitt, I've learned to use my computer

Have you learned to read? Titus Pullo posted the link a mere one letter below your own.

(He's the "someone else" I was referring to.)

And tell me: why are you such a Saddam sympathizer? Do you think we should have left him free to slaughter the residents of southern Iraq?

    Do tell.

  • Souther Watch

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Southern_Watch

    General information

Operation Southern Watch began on August 27, 1992 with the stated purpose of ensuring Iraqi compliance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 688 of April 5, 1991, which demanded that Iraq "immediately end this repression and express the hope in the same context that an open dialogue will take place to ensure that the human and political rights of all Iraqi citizens are respected." Nothing in the resolution spelled out the Iraqi no-fly zones or Operation Southern Watch.

Just more evidence that US and brits were insisting on an illegal fly zone that the UN didn't sanction.

Shits like you always pull that one out of your plug. There couldn't be a more transparently assinine line than that one. Grow the f'up.

Is it okay when the Brit gov and US gov are responsible for the deaths of the Iraqis that you proclaim to want to protect from Saddam?

As the Iraqi challenges have grown more frequent, the allies have claimed broader license to strike back, putting civilians on the ground at greater risk. U.N. reports tell of stray missiles plowing into residential neighborhoods and nomadic camps.

Iraqi officials say more than 300 people have been killed and 900 wounded in allied attacks since December 1998, when Saddam ordered ground forces to fire at the patrols. Most of the casualties, the officials say, are civilians.

U.S. officials discount the Iraqi figures, but U.N. reports and investigations by foreign journalists indicate that at least some of the claims have been accurate. Mounting casualties led France to drop out of the no-fly patrols last year, and have drawn sharp rebukes from China and Russia.

Don't post incomplete information for wikipedia, a questionable source at best anyway. (Most universities won't allow students to cite wikipedia in research papers.)

A mere year after the UN passed its first resolution, it ordered Saddam to comply with the allies' demand that Saddam move his forces north of the 32nd parallel--tacit approval of the no-fly zones if ever there was.

You're a phony, pompous ass. I posted stuff from all over the map.

The no fly zone was illegal. End of story.

  • well, if YOU say so

The no fly zone was illegal. End of story. --Kitt

Okay, ignore completely the link I provided. Just call people names and stomp your feet really hard.

Yeah, that's the way to prove your point.

BTW, with the exception of one Reuter's story, all your sources were questionable: biased leftwing web sites such as commondreams or wikipedia, which can be rewritten and edited by anyone with a computer.

  • Don't believe all the lies!

The U.N. is evil! It is part of the New World Order!

It has been and remains my firm belief that the current United Nations-mandated, no-win police action in Iraq fails to meet the high moral threshold required to wage just war. That is why I have offered moral and practical opposition to the invasion, occupation and social engineering police exercise now underway in Iraq.

    Thanks for the clarification.

I couldn't find it either (now that I know the number) but there is a record of the vote posted. Did you already see that?

    I found it via: http://cboldt.blogspot.com/

  • Go back to your own blogs...

    ...or speak to the topic.

George Bush getting into your personal info, 4th Amednment territory, and you fall back on Iraq as an argument.

Must be another losing republican. Ok, we'll give you Iraq, a war you're losing incompetently. Therein lies basis for not trusting the Republican White House for a single iota. Especially not one of assumend shared interest.

What does no fly zone nomencloture have to do with illegal spying on Americans?

Where is Hornet's name, addy, social security, contact info?

These guys have nothing to fear, pony up all your private info.

You wouldn't just give it away?

Well then perhaps you need to ask Bush why it's free to the highest bidder, at taxpayer expense.

Now back to enforcing the GOP "no think zone" around all topics foreign policy. Ignore the Elephant in the room...

What you are doing is creating a strawman that gets burnt down so easily there is more smoke than fire and light in here.

First of all, your assertion that this is a left/right issue is a false dichotomy and I suspect you know that. This is better described as an interventionist/non-interventionist dispute. Let's leave economic ideologies out of it. Pat Buchanan would object to your characterizing him as a leftist and we don't want him anyway. What many of us argue is that we have created a bigger mess than was there before. We have done more harm than good. This opinion is found as commonly on the right as it is on the left now. Bush policies have been disowned by all sides at this point, except for the very view neocon "dead-enders". As you are an ex-Hornet driver, I think you may enjoy reading Col. Pat Lang's blog. One word of caution, use a valid e-mail if you wish to comment, don't be an ass and engage in any condescending bullshit and whatever you do, don't call him a "leftist". If you do he might just track you down and beat you to a pulp and that would be unfortunate for both of you.
