Glenn: Regarding my post and the lack of people of color on the page and behind the page ..
Thanks for posting about my concerns. Yes I do want you to step up your commentaries regarding topics involving race and I do acknowledge your efforts todate to address the racism from the pens of white jewish pundits..
I enjoy your work here on Salon despite my reservations about Salon's lack of people of color on the payroll....

Hypocracy?
Sounds vaguely libertarian -- Brecht's Gerechte Verteilung der Überirdischen Güter, perhaps? (See: the War on Drugs.)

Some clarification, Mr. Greenwald?
So, if you're not saying that "violent gangs targeting Muslims" exist, and you're not implying that "violent gangs targeting Muslims" exist, what was the point of using that phrase at all?
You could have said "savage unicorns targeting babies," or "belligerent Amish targeting Episcopalians," which apparently are equally illusory, but you didn't. Is it possible you wrote "violent gangs targeting Muslims" to pander to the fears, prejudices and assumptions of your own following, much as Malkin et. al. do with theirs?
-
Blogs hell: What about what they say on O'Reilly and in books?
I didn't have time to read any but the first and 15th pages.
A Salon site search using the terms "Greenwald" "Malkin's" and "Coulter" yielded zero results, however.
How can Coulter advocate violence and be paid for it! on Fox, in books, in speeches, yet Hillary's attack puppy (and Salon's posters and Greenwald) ignores those far more vile and dangerous incitements?
When she advocated violence at a $25,000 "lecture" here in Kansas at KU, there was hardly a mention, save for a few posters on Kos, on 3/30/05.
"I think there are some people in the audience who meant to be at the sexual reorientation class down the hall," Coulter said, in response to the heckling.
Moments later Coulter stopped and called for assistance from students when hecklers started in again and no one of authority was seen trying to stop them.
"Could 10 of the largest College Republicans start walking up and down the aisles and start removing anyone shouting?" Coulter asked. "Otherwise, this lecture is over."
When she advocated blowing up the NY Times the Gray Lady just sat there and treated her as something less than a fascist or Christian Reconstructionist.
I feel like I've just put down "Alice" and picked up "Through the Looking Glass."

not all that complicated
I believe the relevant expression is "hoist by their own petard."
-
It sounds to me like Kissmyassa...
Is targeting Muslims... and dhimmis. It called Gary Kamiya a dhimmi.
-
It was much larger than yours...
I have no idea how large Orwell's penis was or if he even had one but it really did not matter to me. The moral of his story was important because like me he had two legs. (The chickens are not safe either).
When I read comments such as the following: "I think we should kill a Ghingis baboon in front of the Howler monkeys" (sorry ananymous, no red star) I realize how right Orwell was. Except in the Salon book it is take over by the lesser primates who can only wish they were Howlers.
-- Ghingis Can
Any socialist has a larger penis than a fascistic jingo like you. It's just Darwin and evolution.
"Perhaps when the next great war comes we may see that sight unprecedented in all history, a jingo with a bullet hole in him."
--George Orwell
Homage to Catalonia

Yes, Neocons a violent gang
Targeting muslims.
-
It was much larger than yours... oh ya
That's not what you said last night.
-
Animal Farm
Is the Harry Potter of Orwell and you don't even understand that book, you ignoramus. Now piss off, you little fascist twit.
-
And while we're at it.
I know this is a little late and a little off subject, but...
Check out Drudge sometime. The is a regular advertiser on his site that sells "conservative" t-shirts. One image is of a reasonably attractive young lady sporting a shirt with a smiley face and emblazoned (sp?) with the words "Imagine no Liberals". I think if you replace the word "Liberals" with "Jews" or "Blacks" or "Designated Hitters" you get my drift.
This kind of hate speech is business as usual from these folks. In this case, literally business, but I don't see anything like that on Salon or Huff or like minded sites.
-
Hate speech? Depends on the target.
Glenn, the examples you gave are 'hate speech'? I am astounded at this. Saying things like about blacks like "welfare, babies out of wedlock, walking the streets, wearing designer duds, selling drugs, crime" are considered worse than "Any socialist has a larger penis than a fascistic jingo like you. It's just Darwin and evolution."? (the last from an Anon commenter and allowed to stand on this site)
I remember Alec Baldwin saying in 1998 on the Conan O'Brien show "If we were living in another country, what we, all of us together, would go down to Washington and stone Henry Hyde to death, stone him to death, stone him to death! Then we would go to their house and we'd kill the family, kill the children." But nothing was said from the liberals and this man is still allowed to work!
You seem to have a double standard here, anything said by a right-wing blog that could even hurt someone's feeling is hate speech, but the left can make death threats, use racial slurs, disgrace a person's religion and even call women 'cunts', but if it is said about a conservative, that's just ok. Being hateful towards hateful people seems to be acceptable, because you need to teach them a lesson.
I think you're trying to make a mountain out of a molehill here, Glen. There are bigger fish out there to fry.

Imagine no sense of humor
Chazzazz, You said:

What if I replaced the words "Imagine no" with "Love on" then this shirt would still be hate speech? I don't get your drift (obviously). Are you saying that any printed material, if you change the words you want to change, can become hate speech. Therefore a sign that reads "Stop" could, in theory, say "Stop allowing Eskimos to breathe" and would therefore advocate killing Eskimos?
"Imagine no Liberals" while not really funny, isn't advocating the deaths of people anymore that John Lennon writing "Imagine no heaven" advocates killing people that believe in heaven (as I have heard some people spout). The shirt is a parody of the song.
I'm sure that folks on the left constantly imagine what this country would be like if there were fewer (or no) conservatives. That is how they envision their programs working. Folks on the right envision the same thing, all of their programs working with no liberal opposition.
"Imagine no Liberals" as hate speech. No. As an unfunny joke, yup.
