Our broken political discourse

A survey of comments about the Lewis Libby matter reveals the accountability-free nature of punditry.

The letters thread is now closed.

That's why we have you Glenn

I read a letter in the Mercury news this morning from some indignant citizen protesting the totally unfair nature of Libby's persecution. He was still holding to the view that Plame's status "was not established" and yadda yadda.

The problem is you have true believers, but they need some hook to hang their hat on. They can base their prejudged notions on the fact that a major newspaper put it into print, and they wouldn't do that if someone hadn't fact checked it, would they? So Mr. "Yawwn" fills a pretty big need.

Naturally, if/when the Dems take the White House in 2008...

... there will be no indiscretion large, small, perceived, or blatantly made up that will illicit a YAAWWN. Funny how that works.

I guess the only good news....

is that the American people are beginning to ignore the MSM, and as they do, the elite "journalists" are having to make even more ridiculous claims, which makes more people ignore them.

They have reached well below 45 degrees of phase margin and the system is starting to oscillate. It is about time.

Broken like the country

Murray and Reynolds express such an opinion because they really think they are reporting on politics from somewhere in Eastern Europe -- Russia, say, or Serbia, or maybe Turkmenistan (kidding, but just). Of course you pardon the cretins if they're your cretins! Looking at the state of the country these days, I can't say I blame Murray and Co. for their geographical error.

Like, so, you know, like "journalism," and other boring stuff

Yaahhh, like, why would reporters do all this, like, reporting, you know? Like, since when did I get a big job at a big rich newspaper so I could keep doing, like, the same stuff I learned in J-school? Gaaawwd, like, yawwn! I could be, ya know, like, doing lunch in a fab site with somebody with waaaay pull in the White House, or Pentagon, or even some secret guy! That, hey, is what we, like, do, here in the big time.

Tuesday, July 10, 2007 08:25 AM

But of course, YAAWWN.....

... there's no SEX in the Libby scandal. If it was Monica, it could go on for months and months and all the permutations be addressed and speculated on ad infinitum, but this...? Unless there's a blue dress, there's just no "there" there. YAAWWN...

The elite guardians of our discourse

El Cid makes fun, but Murray describes Bush's indifference to the polls this way:

"Perhaps this is what it's like when you're halfway through your junior year in high school and realize that it doesn't make sense to spend much time studying -- that 2.8 grade point average ain't moving."

I think that pretty much says it all.

Tuesday, July 10, 2007 08:28 AM

I'll try that again with better spelling...

Naturally, if/when the Dems take the White House in 2008, there will be no indiscretion large, small, perceived, or blatantly made up that will elicit a YAAWWN. Funny how that works.

YAWN Masking For Lie

I have a different reaction to the political pundits, and it's not that they are truly blase, but that the apparent apathy is a carefully crafted act. This is one long and elaborate masked ball, and the players have yet to reveal themselves and their patrons from behind the masks of WH stenographers and cheerleaders.

Well, wouldn't you know it........

There goes that liberal press again.

Payoffs or blackmail

It's gotten waaaayy past the point where these bozos could simply be stupid, or such sycophantic courtiers so eager for access that they'd write (or say) such shamelessly idiotic drivel.

These "presstitutes" are either getting envelopes stuffed with cash (checks could be problematic) delivered after every "Don't look at the man behind the curtain!" bit of flackery-posing-as-journalism appears in print or hits the airwaves -- or being blackmailed (illegal wiretaps could provide very good grist for extortion).

Payoffs or blackmail -- there are no other explanations. They literally couldn't be so stupid to believe the spin they are passing off as journalism.

YAAWN

"Shailagh Murray: YAAWWN. That's my view of the Libby flap. What on earth did people expect Bush to do?"

They just do not get it.....it is not what we expect the President to do....in fact he has done what he believes is right. And yes he is the decider.....but that is not the end of the story and for Ms Murray to make it seem like others should abdicate their responsiblities, namely Congress and the press and even the American people, is sad.

This is not about what Mr Bush's authority is....it is about the on going cover-up and unanswered questions about this administration as it relates to this case. I for one want to know if they people at the head of my government are truth tellers or if they are believers in the ends justifying the means kind of people. There is a simple question that Mr Libby should have to answer....why did he choose to lie? It has been established that he lied...not just forgot....so why did he do it? The incentive for him to answer that question has been taken away.

New suggestion for a bumper "slogan"

IT'S ALL THE (YAAAWWN...) SCANDALS, STUPIDS!

This one works best if directed from us to the Parrots of Versailles, aka M$M.

Yaaawwwn

I just read the transcript of that chat. Every answer she gave was smarmy, sarcastic, pedantic and lacking any serious insight. I don't know why I expect more from the Washington Post, but I do. I was more likely to see an "LOL" in there than any actual analysis of politics.

Gen. Apathy -

I just read the transcript of that chat. Every answer she gave was smarmy, sarcastic, pedantic and lacking any serious insight. I don't know why I expect more from the Washington Post, but I do.

Amazing, isn't it? That's why I stressed that she's the National Political Reporter for the Washington Post. She's filled with snotty cynicism and the sort of faux superiority complex that makes them all think that they're far above actually taking any of it seriously.

Well, there is the...

...other side of the coin.

Yes, it has been well established these major newspapers employ real idiots who seem to take perverse pleasure in getting everything wrong.

But you have to be encouraged by people like David Shuster, Keith Olbermann & Michael Moore.

Speaking of Michael Moore...did anybody see him rip Wolfe Blitzer & CNN a new one yesterday? (video can be found @crook & liars.com).

Moore asked (in fact, demanded) Blitzer/CNN apologize for cheering on the Iraq invasion. And that was only the tip of the iceberg.

Part II of the Moore interview will be on CNN today 6 central (Wolfe promised it will not be unedited).

My point being, there are some intelligent individuals finally confronting the professional dumbasses & career screw-ups.
