Marketing the blogosphere
You maintain one of the best progressive blogs on the Internet. You write books. You speak in public and on TV. There is no reason why you, Digby and Jane Hamsher in particular shouldn't all be writing a book a year, sharing press, promoting each other on TV and doing everything else to create a market identity for Internet progressive bloggers. Other progressive bloggers would soon find opportunities to do the same.
IPTV will be big enough in a few years to provide many new opportunities to provide high-definition content. There is no reason you shouldn't have your own TV programs at that point. Can you imagine an online talk show with you, Digby, Jane, Atrios and Josh Marshall as regulars? I can.
The future of communications and media belongs to the Internet. Where political commentary is concerned, you were one of the first to market. All you have to do is just keep doing what you're doing.

Glenn: re: book tour
In an earlier thread, I think I mentioned the Authors series at the Free Library of Philadelphia. It's very well-attended, and results in lots of book sales through Joseph Fox books.
If you do go on a tour, I hope you make it to Philadelphia.

Good luck with your book. And thank you for spending so much time digging out these issues, thinking about them, writing about them, and responding to readers.
Regards the Ann Coulter comment from Chris Matthews, it was a fig leaf to justify having someone so outrageous on his show. If you take her books away, she's just a loud mouth bigot which, of course, no serious show would support. So I don't know that being a big seller of serious books, as opposed to a big seller of outrageous books, will get you a seat on that show. Here's hoping, though!

I got an email from Amazon saying they'd shipped my order out on Saturday, so it should arrive soon.
I saw the fawning ick from Matthews yesterday when he talked about Coulter being on his show. He said he may have her on the entire hour. I interpreted his "she sells books" remarks as "she increases my ratings".

I drove to the Swap-a-Paperback Store.
I drove 45 miles to the local used book store. There was NOT a single book there.
I will write my congressional representatives and fill a Postal Complaint form today!
I will have my complaint sent as a registered citizen by Pony Express, and certified mail.

As bizarre as it is to you and I, Ann Coulter is actually a sex symbol to the right wing establishment. This gives us an accurate measurement to gauge the depth of perversion and the level of depravity to which the right wing has sunk. Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter could be the poster boy and poster girl to the abstinence -only movement in America. Do you doubt the efficacy of this method? Imagine, if you dare, Coulter and Limbaugh engaged in a sexual act. With each other. Are you getting the picture, now? A generation encouraged to contemplate the image of a Coulter-Limbaugh union will swear off sex until the age of twenty-five! Limbaugh and Coulter could make a video which high schoolers in the US as well as in foreign lands would be forced to watch (think Alex in A Clockwork Organge) for two hours every school day. Abstinence only education - it really works! When done correctly.

The picture on the cover of your book seems to be popular. Charles Tiefer uses it for his book, Veering Right (http://www.ucpress.edu/books/pages/10281.html). That gives me the excuse to recommend another of his books, The Semi-Sovereign Presidency. I'm not sure if you've read it (I've only begun reading it myself), but it details the elder Bush's evasion of Congress in the governing process, including his widespread use of signing statements. You're probably more in the know about this earlier practice than I am, but much of the coverage of W's use of signing statements treats it as a new practice.

Seeing With The Same Eyes
It is rewarding to know you have gotten something right. On Saturday May 12, 2007,I blogged the following:
"False Comparisons Make Way For Killing Field"
"There has been a up tic in claims Al Qaeda is behind much of the killing in Iraq. In most news coming out of Iraq about attacks on Americans and civilians, there has be an overuse of the word "suspected to be" and "sources say" Al Qaeda is behind the attacks on American solders. Because we have not gone after the people who brought down the two towers, Bush has taken a lot of heat. This heat has brought about attempts to make the case Al Qaeda is taking over or is behind all and every attack in Iraq.
There are two important facts about this current attempt to strengthen the claim Al Qaeda is firmly embedded in Iraq:
1. The first is now the war in Iraq is now connected to 911. Yes, they are trying to make the case we cannot leave Iraq because Al Qaeda is there. How is that for making it so? If you cannot find Al Qaeda, bring Al Qaeda to Iraq.
2. The other reason is the only way they can really do something about the violence in Iraq is to address the direct true elements causing the war. Since the Bush administrations say there is no civil war, they have got to find a way to eliminate one side of the civil war. Thus, any over kill can be assumed to be Al Qaeda's demise. This amounts to creating a killing field.
The Bush administration cannot do this alone. They need someone to disburse this lie Al Qaeda is behind all the killing in Iraq. Enter the media: Fox news and the Fox wantabees. Look for a lot of "framing the issue" kind of news. CSPAN's Washington Journal will do it with a question: Should we leave Iraq if Al Qaeda is so entrenched in the Iraq?
The lies and misdirection concerning this war never seem to stop. Before believing anything coming out Iraq, it is almost a must to second guess its content.

Although my writing skills are not as polished as Glenn Greenwalds, I came very close to seeing the very same dynamic Greenwald writes about. I recall writing one post, a few days after this one, in all capital letters because I thought the "Al Qaeda in Iraq" claim was being overused my the media and the military, overlooked by the by the congress and senate, and not important enough to the American people.
I have no clout but maybe someone important in the congress will not look into what I know is wrong and misleading.
