Standards of American justice under George W. Bush

A New York Times Op-Ed by a U.S. military prosecutor seeking to defend the humane conditions at Guantánamo proves the exact opposite point.

RealDimwit

Imagine if someone said that sex offenders shouldn't be monitored because they've served their time.

--RealName

Comparing tried and convicted sex offenders to never tried, convicted or even accused so called terrorists? There is no fucking comparison. The fact that that is lost on you (as is clear in your comment) explains quite well what a dimwit you are.

If you can tell us whether he's actually alive, and where he's hiding in all the Muslim world

Here's a hint. He's not in Iraq.

Pakistan's a much better bet.

But we pulled our intelligence assets out because the light was better elsewhere. That and blowing shit up plays better to the moron base. Present company included.

@ RealName

Or, if you truly believe that the magical infinite liberal can fix all problems simultaneously, why hasn't it happened?

Ummm, we don't. That's why we don't insist that Glenn also rail and even "Uriah Heep" about the injustices of the death penalty and the Great War on Drugs as well as Guantanamo in the same friggin' column!. But there are some that do seem to think that Glenn is "cherry picking" if he doesn't take on all the world's ills all at once in each and every column .... hmmmm, now who would that be?....

Your implication that Glenn cares nothing about -- or has even sub silentio made a pronouncement on the merits on -- a subject that's not in his column is wrong. Not to mention most rational people think it sometimes pays to tackle problems one at a time.

Hey, look, if you think there's issues out there that need attention, go start your own blog, and then you can tackle solving them in any manner that you seem to think wroks best. Methinks that all you're here for is to carp about Glenn, and in part because he is doing (perhaps, in your humble opinion, too) good a job.

Cheers,

That's 'cause you never pay attention

Gee, I had no idea that you folks were so hot to pursue OBL after six years

"We"'ve been "hot to persue" him for 10 years. Clinton tried and the Republicans started screaming "Wag the dog". Bushy decided to ignore him, Sept 11th happened, we went after him and might have had a chance to get him, then Bushy decided to invade Iraq. They dismantled the groups that had been put together to get binLaden. Now they ignore him.

I'll bet we could coax the Army to go after him. Heh.

Yes, you use a little inappropriate "heh" at the end of your statements like your masturbation dream GW. So clever.

You won't be able to "coax" the army to go after him 'cause republicans have no interest in going after him, GW has no intention of persuing binLaden. Hell you yourself said he isn't a priority. Of course, you'll now deny that even though your post stating it is still here on the site.

@ Kitt

[Kitt, re "shooter"]: By the way, Shooter...is the "heh" thing a tick? Like winking or flinching at inappropriate moments just because you can't help yourself?

"Shooter" fancies himself as the next InstaHack, a Glenn Reynolds, Jr. Despite the fact that he's stoopider than Reynolds, even if he matches Reynolds in disingenuousness and fawning sycophancy for the fetid corpose of the Dubya maladministration.

"Shooter" doesn't even have the originality to come up with his own affectations. Sad, really. But not unexpected in such a person.

Cheers,

I'm truly sorry

My apologies to those who think we should be ignoring the trolls. Most days I do it just fine, but when they start in with the "I never said that, where a quote" thing, I just can't help myself. I'll spend the night tonight in the dog house, and hopefully back in good graces tomorrow.

No

...If you're going to [weep] over the cruelty of prison, focus your attention there. The last time I checked far more people in US prisons faced the death penalty for questionable shit than did the entire population of Gitmo. You need to think of Gitmo as just one more poorly run facilty like Corcoran in California where corruption and violence are rife. Unless you believe that everyone in prison deserves it and should be there forever. Which might be the case but it does let some of the air out of that bleeding heart balloon, no?-- RealName

No. The American prison-industrial complex is a tremendous blight on the nation, but it is marginally less corrupt (even in documented worst case instances like Corcoran) than what is credibly alleged to have been common at Gitmo. I.e. anal rape is not an institutionalized, normative practice for state prison guards to indulge in -- even if it's something they turn their eyes away from when their pets on the inside do it. If they get caught breaking the plausible deniability rule, they get outed & punished (Corcoran).

Gitmo damages our standing in the world like no other stateside hellhole can. Its existence and the known abuses that occurred there endanger our military in the field (albeit not AF JAGs apparently). Gitmo allows insurgents/terrorists etc. that much more excuse to do what they'd like to and torture any of ours whom they might capture. When Very Important Publications like the New York Times implicitly endorse Gitmo, they damage the nation by furthering the acceptance of torture among respectable people worldwide. When America's "Newspaper of Record" chooses to publish an op-ed apology for it, they fuck us over.

Gitmo is a flaming tire around American's necks. It's also a disgusting, immoral breach of our best traditions and the reasons why this nation was founded. However, that small matter has already been covered, above.

More questions for sysprog.

If I don't hear from you I'll consider sysprog said, "Eat a hard shelled rotten oyster, or a crab, or a rotten peanut, or a cashew, or politely whispered: "ShadDup, You darn Pup (I keep getting a virus Pup?), Shoo you, Scram dammit." Then I'll stop my worry over it.

Sysprog said, "I'd NOT worry about it." okay.

I know the F.B.I. seized files from the office of Rep. William J. Jefferson (D-La) as part of a bribery investigation, and House Republicans leaders erupted. Why?

Is he a miffed because he is a black crook that's supposed to be on the liberal Left side of the church isle? Is he as cute as shooter?

Was the real charge and the reason he'll not likely do jail time because he's not liberal or black enough. Is there a neo-con spinner-lure I'm confused about? Were the fished wrapped in $5.00 bills or $1.00 script, or silver dollars? Real-Gold fish?

All politico's accept bribes, right? Isn't that why they run for elected positions? Ignore me if your research is found wanting....

We've heard here that a curious mind wants to know. Curiosity did kill the cat who was peering and sticking a 5-toe paw into a fish bowl. We all know that! But was their a real gold-gold fish in the wrapped fish?

What a smell. Fish stink.

Was there cash in the freezer with the brownies too?

Was the fish the Great Norther Pike that made her way to the South?

I was wondering if sysprogs research can end my curiosity. Was the fish in the freezer channel cat fish, swamp pike, walleyes, large mouth bass, brown brook, or rainbow trout?

Was the F.B.I investigators looking for blue channels, crappies, yellow perch, sunfish, or black and olive eels?

Cash was in the form of Silver Channel Catfish or should I ask you more general questions...augh, O, dear sysprog?

Is Pup a fish? Smells like a nsa fish or a rotten oyster.
